Top 10 Most Overrated Rock Bands of the 1990s

Disclaimer: I do not hate many of these bands, I just think they are the ones who get too much attention compared to other better artists from this decade
The Top Ten
1 Nirvana Nirvana was an American grunge band that was formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana disbanded after Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994. The drummer of the band, David Grohl, went on to start the Foo-Fighters, an alternative rock band.

I respect what this band has done to the music industry. However, I think they are kind of mediocre in comparison to most other bands of the grunge era like Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, and most people only know them and consider them one of the greatest rock bands of all time for one okay song that is far from their best, let alone the greatest song of the 90s.

They had only 3 studio albums and their second 2 were great. Bands like Alice In Chains and underrated Dinosaur Jr had twice as many albums even more and some were just as great as Nevermind and In Utero. Radiohead is perfect for second place too.

Musically this band is ok but to compare with the other Seattle bands like pearl jam, soundgarden and alice in chains I'm gonna rank nirvana 4th because nirvana is kinda punk rocker band their sound obviously punk in nature!

Because of Kobain's death its heavily overrated. Before Kobain's death it was an unimportant band with only one hit... teens like...

2 Radiohead Radiohead are an English rock band from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, formed in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments), Colin Greenwoood (bass guitar), Phil Selway (drums), and Ed O'Brien (guitar).

Often considered one of the greatest music artists of the past 30 years when their music is just average.

Nah I think they deserve their praise.

Nah defiantly right there with Nirvana.

Much better than Nirvana in my opinion.

3 Marilyn Manson Marilyn Manson is an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Formed in 1989 by frontman Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz, the group was originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids with their theatrical performances gathering a local cult following in the early 1990s. The name of the band comes from famous sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and famous criminal Charles Manson. Manson joined these two names together because he wanted a name combined with good (Monroe) and evil (Manson). The other members of the band have their stage names combined with the first names of famous sex symbols and the last names of famous serial killers.

Again, I don't hate this band, but people sometimes overhype them to extreme levels

The title track has since become the band's most played song live. ...read more.

80s material was great and deserving of all the praise it gets, 90s albums however, were hit or miss. I mean you had gems such as "Bleeding Me" and "Fuel" released during this decade, but you also had "Enter Sandman", which alone put them on here, let alone the entire Black Album

I wasn't saying "Sandman" or the Black Album were bad, I was just saying they were incredibly overrated. If anything I'd say "Mama Said" or "Unforgiven II" were actually bad

Load and Reload weren't good enough for Metallica. But the Black Album, Garage Inc. (1998, with covers) and S&M (1999, live album with San Francisco Symphony) were really very good.

James Hetfield used to have long hair. Why?!

Millions of people actually bought and liked this crap? The best thing to happen to this band was hiring Miles Kennedy and changing their name to Alter Bridge, and yet they were more successful with one of the worst vocalists of all time (Scott Stapp) and showcased less talent than they would later show as AB.
