Top 10 Most Overrated Rock Subgenres

Rock while being a respected genre. Has a few overrated subgenres. None of these subgenres are bad they just get too much attention. Also I'll be including Metal subgenres because if it isn't obvious enough Metal is a subgenre of Rock.
The Top Ten
1 Screamo
2 Metalcore

6 Pop Rock Pop rock is a form of rock music where it emphasises more on recording craft and songwriting than the attitude. Commonly known as an alternative to rock and roll.

The most overrated rock subgenre. Not that bad but some of it are really generic. But most of the songs in this genre is really bland.

7 Psychedelic Rock Psychedelic Rock is a style of rock music in the late 1960s where it is incorporated, influenced or inspired by psychedelic culture which revolves around the perception of hallucinogenic drugs. It is incorporated with improvisation, electronic sound effects and extended solos.

For me I only like a few bands from this genre Jimi Hendrix Experience and Pink Floyd are awesome and deserve praise for being groundbreaking

8 Deathcore
9 Punk Rock Punk rock is a subgenre of rock music. It usually has rebellious lyrics and down stroked power chords played on guitars. Bad Religion, Sex Pistols, and Green Day (actually pop-punk, which is still punk in a way) are a few punk rock bands. The subgenre influenced thrash metal because of it's down stroked guitar playing and other factors.
10 Hard Rock Hard Rock is a subgenre of rock music known for having heavier guitar riffs/solos. It originated around 1964-1965 with various Garage Rock bands.
The Contenders

I wouldn't say this is overrated, because most bands in this genre are awesome (Especially Dio, Post Ozzy Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon,) and its influence another reason it deserves praise

Well Heavy Metal and Alternative Rock are the best Rock subgenres but both can be overrated. There are a lot of overrated bands in this genre but a lot of underrated ones too.-DarkBoi-X

12 Death Metal

I'm just going to say this you may not agree with me but the only band I would say is overrated in Death Metal is Cannibal Corpse only because their is much better bands out there, Death Metal is actually one of the most varied genres both lyrically and musically, There so many sub genres of death metal alone that it would take time to list them all, but the only share one thing: Death Growls I can understand if you don't like them Growls are a taste that takes time to get used to but once you do you'll see why people love this genre and I why I wouldn't call it overrated.

13 Alternative Rock Alternative rock is a style of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s. In this instance, the word "alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music.
14 Power Metal
15 Symphonic Metal
16 Industrial Rock
17 Blues Rock Blues rock is a fusion genre combining elements of blues and rock. It is mostly an electric ensemble-style music with instrumentation similar to electric blues and rock: electric guitar, electric bass, and drums, often with Hammond organ.

Don't get me wrong there are some really great artists which were/are a part of this genre. But I find the majority of this Subgenre's output to be quite boring. For me most Blues Rock just sounds like Standard Blues Music played with Electric Guitar, and Heavier Riffs, which gets really boring overtime to me. And is really not innovative at all. And I actually would say I enjoy/have more respect Stranded Blues Music more than Blues Rock(Not saying it's one of my favorite genres, but that's just how I feel). And for me to dig any Blues Rock, it often has to include elements of other Subgenres.

18 Progressive Rock Progressive rock is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States throughout the mid to late 1960s.
19 Progressive Metal

I find Prog genres to be underrated

20 Soft Rock
21 Glam Metal Glam metal is a subgenre of heavy metal that features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, and upbeat rock anthems.
22 Indie Rock
