I heard the whole Sonic recolor trend happened because of this character, which would make sense, though Sega did more to Shadow than just making him dark. I guess the character's background is the major reason for Shadow's hype. Even though he's overrated, he does have the most interesting background story of any Sonic villain.
He does not deserve his popularity and should have stayed dead in the ending of SA2. There are BETTER Sonic characters out there such as Tails, Knuckles, Amy or heck, even Big the Cat.
