Most Overrated Voice Actors/Actresses

Voice actors and actresses you've probably heard a thousand times in cartoons and movies.

The Top Ten Most Overrated Voice Actors/Actresses

1 Tara Strong Tara Strong is a Canadian–American actress who has done work in numerous films and television series, both live-action and animated.

She's mediocre at best, and downright annoying at worst. Either way, she gets far too much praise as a voice actress, and really, her vocal range is not all that great. Also, in real life, she's really ' full of herself. She constantly runs her mouth on stuff that (in my opinion) she really doesn't have a good understanding of. She strikes me as typical bimbo blonde, rich heiress.

It's extremely annoying listening to her various characters she plays in shows, because you can barely tell their voices apart usually. - kempokid

I lost respect for her after she did voice acting in Teen Titans Go and Drawn Together. She really needs to stop putting pressure on herself and auditioning for all these characters.

How come she's the only voice artist who gets this much praise? Why can't they treat other voice actors/actresses like this? It's like she's the only voice artist in the world! I think the only reason is because she does the voice of stupid unicorn on that stupid pony show! This Tara fanbase is full of bull crap for not giving respect to other voice actors/actresses who ACTUALLY have talent!

2 Grey DeLisle Erin Grey Van Oosbree, credited as Grey DeLisle and Grey Griffin, is an American voice actress and singer-songwriter.

I will lose my mind if I hear her voice again. she's good but overused beyond belief.

Most of the characters she voices are annoying and are usually the worst characters of the series. Grey and Tara are the most overused voice actresses in American cartoons. These two ladies voice as kids and they're too old to do that. Can they hire kids instead? They have been in this industry for a long time now. We need to know other voice actors. The voice acting industry should be like Hollywood---"out with the old, in with the new".

Tara is much more worse. Twilight Sparkle is worst character of all time. Don't believe me, watch Lesson "DON'T SHOW YOUR KIDS OR ELSE THEY GET NIGHTMARES" Zero.

Who said that all her characters are unlikable? She actually has voiced some likable characters.

3 Dee Bradley Baker Dee Bradley Baker is an American voice actor. His major roles, many of which feature his vocalizations of animals, include animated series such as American Dad!, Codename: Kids Next Door, Gravity Falls, Phineas and Ferb, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Ben 10, and The 7D, live-action series more.

He's in a lot of older cartoons and my Lord, his voice is ANNOYING when he's not voicing animals. He's had a few decent roles like Tarrlok in LoK, but 99% of his characters make my ears bleed.

Well your biased because you said frank welker is the best voice actor ever and he is mainly known for making animal sounds and the voice of fred from scooby doo

He voices animal characters. Sometimes I feel bad for him because all he does is make animal sounds while the other voice actors get to have more important roles. Anyways, he was cool as Appa and Momo in Avatar.

He does a fair amount of human voices. And at any rate, he's probably laughing his way to the bank. - Gg2000

The visitor is right, if he makes animal sound we will know we still have this talent when Frank Welker dies. - 445956

4 Johnny Yong Bosch

Almost all of his voices sound the same for each character he plays (maybe not Lelouch). - ModernSpongeBobSucks

I agree. I guess you could say, he's the male version of Tara Strong (LOL).

Male, anime, Tara Strong. Why should I bother, I don't even watch anime. - 445956

5 Tom Kenny Thomas James Kenny is an American actor and comedian known for his long-running role as the title character in the SpongeBob SquarePants TV series and films. Kenny has voiced many other characters including Heffer Wolfe in Rocko's Modern Life, the Ice King in Adventure Time, the Mayor in The Powerpuff more.

Stop being mean to this amazing voice actor! Tara Strong is the only you should be trash-talking to and be in the number one spot! She's the one whose voices sound exactly the same!

He is not overrated he is amazing at his job

This guy is awesome! I love SpongeBob and the Ice King.

Best remembered as the voice of Sponge Bob Squarepants most of his characters sound exactly alike - egnomac

6 Linda Cardellini Linda Edna Cardellini is an American actress. She is known for her roles as Lindsay Weir on Freaks and Geeks, Samantha Taggart on ER, Velma Dinkley in the live-action Scooby-Doo feature films, Sylvia Rosen, a neighbor of Don Draper's on the AMC drama series Mad Men, Meg Rayburn on the Netflix original more.

But isn't she Wendy from Gravity Falls?

She is so cute. - DynastiSugarPop

She's actually good

She's a bad actress but she doesn't do voiceovers

7 Mandy Moore Amanda Leigh "Mandy" Moore is an American singer-songwriter and actress. Moore first came to prominence with her 1999 debut single, "Candy", which peaked at number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. After singing with Epic Records, she released her first album, So Real, in 1999. It went on to receive a Platinum more.

What you trash talk Mandy wow

She is a good singer. - DynastiSugarPop

8 Seth MacFarlane Seth Woodbury MacFarlane is an American television producer, filmmaker, actor, and singer, working primarily in animation and comedy, as well as live-action and other genres.

Come on, guys! Give this guy more love! Sure his comedy is a mixed bag, but at least he knows when to put effort into voicing a character. Outside of his television shows, he's simply hilarious on Robot Chicken, and his performance in both of the Ted movies is just the best.

I actually think he's pretty talented and funny. He's also a very good singer. Tara Strong is actually a horrible voice artist that has voices that sound exactly the same.

He voices differant characters that sound exactly the same. Brian sounds like Tom Tucker, Carter sounds like Dr. Hartman, Peter sounds like Roger etc. He even tries to voice every random guy but they sound the same. He has a limited range and should hire real voice over actors.

While I'm not a major fan of his writing, his acting is usually great and amusing. - kempokid

9 Samuel L Jackson

Some people only knew him for Nick Fury. Oh wait, that's live-action. - 40chanAnonymous

But, Frozone is hilarious! - 445956

Why is he on this list? He’s not overrated.

10 Yuri Lowenthal

Can't escape this man. Every game I play, he's there. His voice is annoying, childish, and shrill. I don't hate voice actors, but this once I will make an exception. Please, for the love of all that is holy, please say no to a role. Many roles. Say yes to only a few. It breaks immersion immediately to hear this same voice over and over, even if he tries to make it sound a lititle different.

His voice literally hurts my ears the way he makes it shrill and obnoxious. I still like some of the characters voices, just despite the fact that he's making them hard to listen to. Besides that, he's in everything and has little to no range. Once you hear his voice, you are instantly taken out of the game. Suddenly, all your hear is Yuri Lowenthal.

Voices pretty much the same character in everything he's in. Little to no range and instantly recognizable. Takes you out of the action and story almost always.

What?! But he's voiced Simon from Gurren Lagann, Suzaku from Code Geass, and Sasuke from Naruto!

The Contenders

11 Tress MacNeille Tress MacNeille is an American voice actress. She has voiced characters for various animated television series such as The Simpsons, Futurama, Tiny Toon Adventures, Rugrats, Animaniacs, and Disney's House of Mouse.

No, two characters she voice may sound the same but it's different portrayals of that voice. It's called versatility. She has a lot of it and that's why she's considered a great voice actor. - mrcoolface

A lot of fans (including myself) may give Ms. Tress a lot of attention and praise, but that's actually a good thing. What I'm trying to say is that even though she's overrated, it's only because love her for being in a lot of shows that were around during our childhoods (just like other great voice artists like Mel Blanc, Rob Paulsen, Frank Welker, Jim Cummings, Kath Souice, Tom Kenny, Jess Harnell, and Charlie Adler). To close this statement, I would like to say, "Thank you Tress MacNeille for being apart of my childhood and voicing a lot of great characters."

That's true, and versatility is something Tara Strong does not have. Which is why I think Tress MacNeille is much better than her.

I love her, she's a great voice actress. She's puts in a lot of effort (unlike Tara Strong), and is in a lot of shows I like. My favorite roles of hers are: Daisy Duck, Dot Warner, Babs Bunny, Colleen, Hello Nurse, and Rhubella Rat.

12 Patrick Warburton Patrick John Warburton is an American comedic actor and voice artist. In television, he has played David Puddy on Seinfeld, the title role on The Tick, Jeb Denton on Less Than Perfect, Jeff Bingham on Rules of Engagement and Lemony Snicket on A Series of Unfortunate Events.

If you guys wanna complain that he uses the same voice over and over again, that is because he has an iconic voice. - 445956

The squinting eyes and robotic speech is annoying

13 John DiMaggio John William DiMaggio is an American actor, voice actor and comedian, known for his gruff voice, and for his work as Bender from the television show Futurama, Jake the Dog on Adventure Time, and Marcus Fenix in the hit Xbox video game Gears of War.

No, he's awesome - 445956

You mean Jake the Dog

Brother blood

No he's not!

14 Daran Norris

Nah, he is underrated. - 445956

15 Jeff Bennett Jeffrey Glenn "Glen" Bennett is an American voice actor and singer. His voice roles include Johnny Bravo in the television series of the same name and Petrie in the Land Before Time films and television series.

He is extremely talented. - 445956

He is the very same guy who voiced Bendy in the infamous Foster's Home for Imginary Friends episode "Everyone Knows It's Bendy". Unfortunately he has never apologized for voicing the character which is one of the main reasons why I despise him. He is also one of the most overused voice actors ever. enough said.

I disagree! He is one of the most talented voice actors in the entire history. Not only that, he is also a famous sibger and rockstar. What a shame that some people hate him. Liliana Mumy and Isabella Acres are worse in my opinion. - AinezoChan

I met jeff at j. frank dobie high school in houston, tx. we were in speech and drama together. jeff had great voices back then too! we would say, "hey jeff, do seymour! " and he would say something in that character's voice. I'm very glad my friend has found success in life.

16 E.G. Daily

She is actually a great singer. She voices Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls.

At least she gave Buttercup a good and believable tomboy voice. In the reboot, Buttercup sounds just plain awful.

She is basically an older, better version of Tara Strong. - 445956

Better than Tara Strong.

17 Seth Green Seth Benjamin Green is an American actor, voice artist, comedian, producer, writer and director. Green is the creator, executive producer, writer, director and the most-frequent voice on Adult Swim's Robot Chicken.

He either uses his own voice or sounds like he's mentally retarded and about to choke on his own vomit. His live action films are overrated and horrible. He wasn't that great on BTVS either, he was typically boring.

He sometimes can be insufferable, other times hilarious. - 445956

18 June Foray June Lucille Foray was an American voice actress who was best known as the voice of such animated characters as Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Lucifer from Disney's Cinderella, Cindy Lou Who, Jokey Smurf, Granny from the Warner Bros.

Hey Modern Spongebob fan! Tara Strong is better than June Foray you say? Ha! Screw that girl. - 445956

How dare you say Tara Strong is better than "the" June Foray!

Legendary. - 445956

Screw you! June Foray is a great voice actress! I like Tabitha St. Germain and Andrea Libman, but Tara Strong is scum!

19 James Arnold Taylor

Sorry about what I said earlier, this guy is a legend. Let's just forget about Johnny Test. - 445956

The same guy who voices Johnny Test...

How is the legendary June Foray above him? - 445956

20 Steve Blum

Every one praises this guy. Yeah, he's talented, he's got range. He's given some pretty good performances. But that's about it.

Just because he voices Spike Spiegel and TOM doesn't mean he is the best voice actor.

Why is he on here - Ferret

Yeah, he's good, but that's about it.

21 Clancy Brown

Why do people only know this guy for that greedy crab? - 40chanAnonymous

22 Lisa Ortiz

Still gotta "Love" that Oshawott's voice - Bunearylove75

Love Amy Rose voice!

It's like they only know her for Ash Ketchum (Generation IV - present). - 40chanAnonymous

23 Bryce Papenbrook

Bryce Papenbrook gets main role in all his shows, and he's pretty good. He plays Cat Noir in Miraculous so I guess I like his teenage voice!

My ears bleed every time I hear his voice - YourWaifuSucks

24 Nolan North
25 Cree Summer

I think she's pretty good at voice acting.

At least she's better than Tara Strong.

I'm so sick of hearing her voice.

26 Hank Azaria Henry Albert Azaria is an American actor, voice actor, comedian and producer, known for his voice characterizations as a variety of characters in the animated sitcom The Simpsons, which include Moe Szyslak, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Chief Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson and others.

My favorite voice actor on The Simpsons.

Favorite voice actor in The Simpsons.

He voices too many characters in The Simpsons. - 40chanAnonymous

A terrible voice actor.

27 Jen Taylor
28 Dan Castellaneta

In The Simpsons, it's like they only know this guy for Homer Simpson, but I guess that kinda makes sense? - 40chanAnonymous

29 Vic Mignogna

He ruined Edward Elric's voice. Edward doesn't sound like a teenager, but like a whiny guy in his 30s about to enter a mid-life crisis. I watch Full Metal Alchemist in Japanese to save my ears the trouble.

Vic is a prick. Most overrated VA ever. And so many on this damn site say Tara Strong is overrated! Hah!

Is this about the whole #KickVic bull? Cause honestly, Monica Rial (and/or Jamie Marchi) should be at the top of the list. - OnyxDash

30 Rob Paulsen Robert Fredrick Paulsen III is an American voice actor and singer who has done many voice roles in various films, television shows, and video games.

He's actually a really good voice actor just overused. - egnomac

Why do you find him overrated? - mrcoolface

Oh. I thought overused just meant they were used to much not overrated.

He's one of the best voice actors ever! One of my childhood favorites.

31 Phil LaMarr

I love Phil Lamarr tremendously. His comedy is exceptional in Mad T.V. but he's overcast. Which is not due to fan demand but he plays a good Hollywood game. He's a small voiced man who tries to voice big men and his resonance and timbre don't suit those roles. He's a competent actor but he can't hit emotional high and low notes when he has to force these gruff voices which obviously just sound like Phil Lamarr doing a voice.
Again, love him to death but he's been in overkill mode since the early 2000s.

32 Mark Hamill Mark Richard Hamill is an American actor and voice actor. He is best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy – Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi and his portrayal of the Joker in Batman: the Animated Series.

The Star Wars sequels were so terrible that even he despised them; especially Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi. - 40chanAnonymous

It seems the only job Mark Hammel could get after Star Wars was voice acting which seems to be doing all right to an extent. - egnomac

He was in the last scene of the Force Awakens and he'll probably be in the sequel to that too. - Anonymousxcxc

33 Nancy Cartwright Nancy Jean Cartwright is an American actress, voice actress and comedian, known for her long-running role as Bart Simpson on the animated television series The Simpsons.
34 Ashleigh Ball Ashleigh Adele Ball (born March 31, 1983) is a Canadian voice actress and musician, known for singing in the rock band Hey Ocean!, as well as voicing characters in several movies and television series, notably the Barbie film series, Littlest Pet Shop, Ready Jet Go! and My Little Pony: Friendship is more.
35 Stan Freberg
36 Victoria Jackson
37 Monica Rial

She was one of the greatest anime dub artists ever...but then KickVic began. Now people call Tara Strong & Grey DeLisle overrated because of how many roles they have, and yes, while they do have some bad roles (For me, Tara as Dil & Grey as Vicky), they are still very nice people and look like they'd be a lot of fun to hang around.

Monica however...jesus christ...have you seen her Twitter? Ever since the whole #KickVic nonsense began back in December 2018, she has done nothing but put her "friend" down as hard as she could and even poisoned the minds of the other folks at Funimation into doing the same. Heck, she won't go to a DBZ convention because of Vic Mignogna being there. My God Monica, we know you better than that! At least go to the damm con and try and sort things out with the poor man!

Honestly, take Tara & Grey off the list and replace them with Monica & (in all honesty) Jamie Marchi too. They're the reasons why this whole #KickVic bull started. Two ...more - OnyxDash

38 James Earl Jones James Earl Jones is an American actor who in a career spanning more than 60 years has become known as "one of America's most distinguished and versatile" actors and "one of the greatest actors in American history." Since his Broadway debut in 1957, Jones has won many awards, including a Tony Award and more.

Just because he has an iconic voice dosen't mean he's a good voice actor.

39 Billy West William Richard Werstine, known professionally as Billy West, is an American voice actor, singer, comedian, musician, songwriter and former radio personality who is known for his voice-over work in a number of television series, films, video games and commercials.

All of his voices sound exactly the same. Philip J. Fry, Ren from Ren & Stimpy, and the Red M&M in the commercials to name a few.

40 Kath Soucie
41 Jennifer Hale Jennifer Hale is a Canadian-American voice actress best known for her work in video game franchises including Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid, Spider-Man, BioShock Infinite, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Ever since the Metroid series, she's been everywhere along with Nolan North and Troy Baker.

I really do wish game developers would hire voice actors and actresses other than these three.

42 Yeardley Smith

She can only do one voice, and its annoying

She definitely needs to be higher up the list. Most of her other roles are in live action films, and her voice career is almost entirely based on Lisa Simpson. And yet she's still below Dan Castellaneta and (especially) Hank Azaria. Shame. - Gg2000

43 Frank Welker Franklin Wendell Welker is an American voice actor best known for his role as Fred Jones from the Scooby-Doo franchise since its inception in 1969 and as the voice of Scooby-Doo since 2002. He is also known as the voice of Megatron in the Transformers franchise and as the voice and vocal effects of more.

Freeman won an Academy Award in 2005 for Best Supporting Actor with Million Dollar Baby (2004), and he has received Oscar nominations for his performances in Street Smart (1987), Driving Miss Daisy, The Shawshank Redemption and Invictus. more.

His voice isn't that inspiring, but maybe it's just me.

47 Janet Varney
48 Mae Whitman Mae Margaret Whitman is an American actress and singer. After making her film debut as the daughter of Meg Ryan's character in When a Man Loves a Woman, she appeared as the daughter of George Clooney's character in One Fine Day, and was then cast as the President's daughter in Independence Day.

I heard better

She is good. - DynastiSugarPop

And now I have lost at least some respect for him shame on you Sean SHAME. ON. YOU! - Mario8
