1 Nelson Mandela Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid activist who served as the first president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by fostering racial reconciliation. Ideologically an African nationalist and socialist, he served as the president of the African National Congress (ANC) party from 1991 to 1997.

He deserves to be number 1. Logically and rationally explained the race problem in America and the world and implemented solutions that would have worked if he was not assassinated by the Nation of Islam and the FBI/CIA. He was one of the greatest men to ever live. He was an excellent intellectual and orator who could debate university graduates and doctors when he never finished middle school. Extremely knowledgeable and intelligent who taught black people their real history, to be proud of themselves and fight for their rights and to defend themselves against the violence of the racist U.S police force, KKK and government. He was a man of integrity, moral fibre and intellectual honesty who bravely told the truth and fought for human rights even though he knew he was going to be assasinated for it
