Top 10 People Who Were Blacklisted by Hollywood

The Top Ten
1 Charlie Chaplin Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin, KBE (16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977) was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the silent era. He is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry.

Chaplin risked destroying his career with his politically astute film "The Dictator", a very controversial movie that saw him removed from the starlight for a while. Thankfully, his brilliance in the film was recognized later on, leading to his legacy being one of applause in the end.

2 Dalton Trumbo
3 Mel Gibson Mel Colmcille Gerard Gibson AO is an American actor and filmmaker. He is best known for his action hero roles, namely his breakout role as Max Rockatansky in the first three films in the Mad Max post-apocalyptic action series, and as Martin Riggs in the Lethal Weapon buddy cop film series.

The Hollywood blacklist was in the McCarthy era. What may have happened to Gibson is that many big people in Hollywood refused to work with him, whether for personal or commercial reasons or for their own public image.

Gibson was blacklisted for making anti-Semitic comments (a big Nono in Hollywood, which is prominently staffed by Jews). His acting career dried up, but he later found widespread acclaim for his directing.
