Top 10 Phrases to Describe 2016I know this is a terrible list, but this is how I describe 2016 so far. Not all of these are phrases (at least I do not think so), but I call them phrases because they consist of multiple words. Some of these items listed below apply to other years as well (2015, 2014, etc.), but they also apply to this year.
The Top Ten Phrases to Describe 2016

This year it seems like there are more mass murders and terrorist attacks than usual. The Orlando Nightclub shooting, attack on Nice, France, mass shooting of Dallas police officers, Tokhar massacre, Dhaka terrorist attacks, Dilkwa suicide bombings are some examples of mass murde rs. - anonygirl
I'm sorry for being so opinionated on how much blacks get mistreated. In reality, most murder victims are murdered by someone the same race they are (blacks killed by blacks, whites killed by whites, etc.). I just don't like hearing about African Africans getting killed for reason (regardless of the race of his/her killer). I've heard about more colored people dying this year than colored people dying last year (and I don't pay attention to the media as much this year as I did last year). I know most those people were killed by colored murderers, but still. I think black-on-black crime and white-on-black crime are equally racist because innocent black people are still being killed for no reason (regardless if the killer is white or black). - anonygirl
This isn't BS! This year, there were so many African Americans killed by police that there were a ton of mass murders of police officers.
I don't remember any stories about bunch of police officers getting killed because African American racism last year. However, there are a ton as of 2016. - anonygirl
I know many would disagree with this, but on the news, I keep hearing about African Americans getting killed by white police officers (Jessica Williams of San Francisco, Micah X. Johnson of Dallas, Philando Castile of Saint Paul, Alton Sterling of Baton Rouge, etc.) as well as racist messages and graffiti targeting Hispanics and African Americans. Likewise, most of the deaths I hear on the news (except celebrity deaths) are young people of color (most of the victims were killed by shooters the same race/ethnicity those victims were [blacks killed by blacks, Hispanics killed by Hispanics, Asians killed by Asians, etc.], but still.). I'm not sure if racism was terrible this year or the media just makes it appear that way. Either way, I feel like this should be listed. I'm white before anyone says anything. - anonygirl
What a load of uninformed hysterical crap. Trump NEVER said he'd ban "Hispanics." He said he'd crack down on ILLEGAL immigration. He NEVER said he'd "ban Muslims." He called for a TEMPORARY ban on immigration from certain high-risk areas of the world until emigres could be properly screened. Banning African-Americans? Where the hell are you getting this nonsense? As for young black males being killed by police, has it occurred to you that young black males are more likely to violently engage police "than any other race or age." You may not like it, but what is, IS.
Celebrity deaths happen every year, but this year it seems like there are more than usual. Maybe the famous people that died this year were more famous than the famous people that died last year. I know most are 60+, but still. - anonygirl

Yes, I feel like 2016 is sort of a repeat of 2009 (although 2016 consisted of a better economy and more advanced technology than 2009) for at least two reasons. There have been loads of celebrity deaths this year as well as 2009 (2016: Prince, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali, etc.; 2009: Michael Jackson, Billy Mays, Patrick Swayze, etc.). Also, despite it being summertime, I lot of people I know have a cold or the flu (the same thing occurred in the summer of 2009 with the swine flu). - anonygirl
