Top Ten Most Popular Trends of the 2010s
As a kid in the 2010s, and for you other kids of this decade, I think we all remember times when something was super popular in school and kids wouldn't shut up about it and it would take months for kids to shut up. Remember it? Yeah, me too. As this list is made, we're still in the 2010s, but we are in 2019, and this decade has been full of different trends here and there. Which one was the absolute biggest? That's why I made this list. This is a list of the most popular trends that caught people's interests the most, so with that being said, here's the listFortnite, definitely one of the most recent trends. You can't deny how much fame it has got for the past year. This trend was basically the only thing most people talked about and cared about for the entire of 2018, despite the video game itself being released in 2017. Fortnite spawned tons of youtubers and made tons of youtubers relevant as well who got incredibly popular by playing this game, such as Ali-A, Ninja and DanTDM (the latter was relevant before Fortnite too but he still played Fortnite tons).
Gotta admit this is one of the worst trends to be honest. You basically do some sort of challenge that has become popular on the internet and you pray you will survive. A lot of these challenges are downright dangerous and can cause you to die (tide pod challenge anyone?). It's luckily one of the less popular trends.
Ugh these have been stupid and cringeworthy at best. Most of them are just ridiculous like that tide pod challenge. Or just downright stupid like that water bottle flip thing.
The worst trend ever. It's basically people doing stupid stuff just to get views and a lot of them can hurt or even kill you. *cough* Tide Pod Challenge *cough*
Fidget Spinners. Gotta be honest this might be the absolute most popular trend of the entire 2010s. Not gonna lie, but I myself have two of these. A gold one and a "camouflage" blue. Anyways, this surely was a trend a lot of people have heard about. It's kinda impossible to not have heard anything about these spinners. Especially if you're a guy/girl in school. A trend that started in the beginning of 2017 and went on for a long while, everyone took their spinners to school and showed them off and compared each others spinners and stuff.
Almost everyone, including me, has one these days. In today's generation, the majority of people can be seen with an iPhone, or sometimes a Samsung. I like both Apple and Android the same, but each of these companies has its own pros and cons.
Everyone uses them.
Edit: most people do.
Most people older than the age of 10 have social media accounts nowadays, especially on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, etc. I have Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok (which I only use to look at videos), and YouTube (I don't post any videos on my channel).
Edit: I do post on TikTok whenever I feel like it but I do what's good for me (not doing challenges that could potentially hurt me).
Adele is the most iconic of this decade according to many critics and audiences. There's also Bruno Mars which is another one of those critical singers as well. Imagine Dragons has a different story in a unique situation with critics but they're unique and also a fresh audience choice. Beyonce is another example of a critical singer. David Bowie's final album blackstar is an icon too especially when it was released 2 days before his death. Kendrick Lamar is the most iconic rapper of this time and he's super critical. And Tame Impala which should have been one of them. And that is that.
A skill/luck based trend which involved you throwing up a bottle in the air making it rotate, and if you had luck I suppose, it would land on its base. This is one of the few trends on here I cared the least about and overlooked it a lot because I was more into dabs back then. Although looking back bottle flipping is a much less cringier trend, if cringe at all.
I always tried to make my water bottle land on its base, and because I don't have the best luck, I usually failed.
A 2016 trend, dabbing is one of the very few trends that I actually did use to follow and imitate. But that's because I was a pre-teen and didn't know any better. Dabbing is some sort of move where you look down and raise there arms sideways, you know what, I'm terrible at explaining. Just look at the pic and see it yourself. It dominated the media back in 2016.
Ugh this is so annoying and stupid. I admit I used to do this until I realized just how dumb it was. I was also in middle school at the time so that explains a lot. This is such a middle school thing that shouldn't have been popular to begin with
Everyone knows Pokemon GO. At least kids and young adults of the 2010s. Everyone has played this game or at least heard of it once. It dominated humanity back in July 2016 when it was first released and it started to have its own culture. Me myself am one of the many billions of people who played this game, but one of the few people who actually chosed Team Instinct, the yellow team, the least picked of the three gym teams. As time has went by the game has recieved tons of updates and new pokemon, the first one though which is what made me stop play the game because the updates made the game unplayable
TikTok's okay in my opinion. I'll give it a 6.5/10. If you look for good content, it's not as bad as you think, but if you think this app is trash I still will respect your opinion.
Vines. No, not those type of vines you find in the jungle and stuff. It's another type of vine, if a "vine" at all. It's basically videos that are a few seconds put into one big video which is meant to be humourus and getting people to laugh, although in my opinion they are just stupid and I never get it. It's not one of those talked about trends really but it's a trend.
It's the 2nd best-selling video game of all time behind Tetris and an important part of many of our childhoods. Even today, you can still see it being talked about from time to time.
Minecraft? wow this Video Game rocks also you must be 8 or older to play it. I like Minecraft because I'm old enough to play it.
A video game so popular. Kids decided to mess around with it.
I remember when this song was popular and every kid, including me, would do the dance moves when it played.
Anime will forever be trendy no matter how old you get or what age you are in. Dattebayo!
Anime will always be relevent and trendy, no matter what age we live in.
At least it requires some skill compared to other trends. Still, super cringe
I don't want to brag, but I was a pro at this dance. Looking back, it was a little bit cringeworthy.
Shrek has never been a trend. It has been a sacred entity for millenia, and manifested itself in movie form in 2001. Now it manifests itself through the people of Earth.
Lots of people don't remember Gangnam Style anymore, but when it was a trend, I mean it. People were crazy about it. It's a song released in late 2012 by the music artist PSY. Now I know this item ties with "2010s Music", however that item was mostly just about average songs that you heard on the radio. This one was crazy though
Everyone was going crazy over this song.
