Top Ten Post-Hardcore Bands of All Time

These are the best post-hardcore bands out there. If you disagree, you're missing out.
The Top Ten
1 A Day to Remember A Day to Remember (often abbreviated ADTR) is an American rock band from Ocala, Florida, founded in 2003 by guitarist Tom Denney and drummer Bobby Scruggs. They are known for their unusual amalgamation of metalcore and pop punk. The band currently consists of vocalist Jeremy McKinnon, rhythm guitarist more.

This is not post hardcore! Where do u people get that idea? The band wants to be but they're guitar is too double harmony metalcore/emocore and lyrics pop and no time changes. Drummer isn't outstanding either. And saddest thing is singer can't sing live without effects vocalizer. This band is the equivalent to my era Blink 182. They are pop punk. Just with a metal element. Most songs are punk though.

A Day to Remember are a bunch of awesome bunch of normal people and played music an did what they loved. Their music is amazing, the lyrics so powerful, and their videos are so funny!

So you are telling me, ADTR is number 1 is post-hardcore but they are not even in the top ten in metalcore on this site? well, technically metalcore is a subgenre of post-hardcore so any subgenre of post-hardcore can be on this list, but they did many things for metalcore, so they should be number 1 in metalcore too if they are number 1 in post-hardcore too

These were all obviously voted by fangirls. I mean pierce the veil sucks, so does sws, and adtr is great, but there are many more bands that have better hardcore songs

2 Pierce the Veil Pierce the Veil is an American post-hardcore band from San Diego, California. Formed in 2006, the band was founded by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes after the disbandment of the group Before Today, which was formed out of the San Diego punk rock scene.

Pierce the veil is probably the best hardcore band I know of. I mean, their lyrics are decipherable (the screaming parts) and their songs are oh so very catchy. I would definitely recommend for anyone to listen to them, even if you're not a giant hardcore fan, they have some pretty good stuff. Collide with the sky is definitely my favourite album with their best song (in my opinion) "Kings for a day"
(Oh... And not to forget that Vic Fuentes is really cute, so... BONUS! )

Pierce the Veil is my favourite post-hardcore band of all time because, not only are they extremely talented lyrically and musically, but they're just a bunch of awesome guys with big hearts. They've helped me through tough times because their songs express what I have in my head perfectly. I honestly don't know what I would've done without them.

Absolutely my favourite band to listen to whenever I'm feeling down or I just want to listen to a band who talks about life and feelings that people go through. They also do amazing songs about just saying screw society and live your life the way you want to. Ten out of Ten no matter what happens.

Pierce The Veil are a very underrated band. They deserve to be in the top spot. Each member of the band is EXTREMELY talented, and their music is unique. Their songs have very deep and meaningful lyrics and Vic Fuentes' voice is just... Wow. Words can't explain how amazing his voice is.

3 Bring Me the Horizon Bring Me the Horizon is a British rock band from Sheffield, Yorkshire. Formed in 2004, the group currently consists of vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls, and keyboardist Jordan Fish. They are signed to RCA Records globally and Columbia Records exclusively more.

Bring Me The Horizon is NOT post-hardcore. They are METAL overall. Yes, the That's The Spirit album is post-hardcore, but if you think they're the best post-hardcore band, OOOH BOY, are you wrong. They are the best METAL band because of "There's A Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It" and "Suicide Season" and "Sempiternal" album. Though they are one of my favorite bands, they should not be a top post-hardcore band.

If you listen to their first album don't expect anything like it in their later works. I love this band though. Ollie's lyrics touch home and the songs are tightly written. I guess you could call them post hardcore because of breaks downs and Vox vocals, otherwise they're pretty melodic in their later works, first albums straight metalcore

BMTH is amazing no doubt. Not to mention Oli is flawless. Oli, and the band have worked so hard to be where they are today. They deserve the number one spot. Their vocals and music has improved greatly. The lyrics are so relatable, and understandable. It can help anyone who is having a hard time. Best band of all time. I am proud of all of them.

Bmth is a deathcore band that turned into metalcore..
This is why I mainly hate this site.. it gives ignorant people false info..

Some classic posthardcore bands: glassjaw, quicksand, at the drive in, fugazi
Some modern posthardcore (also referred to as emocore) bands: sleeping with sirens, chiodos, emarosa, the fall of troy, alexisonfire

4 Silverstein

Could never really get into other post hardcore bands. Sleeping with sirens? No thanks. Bmth, ptv. I don't know just didn't suit my tastes. It all felt too.. scene. I don't know. Silverstein is cool. Their music makes sense to me and I'm no longer into post hardcore or emo music, but Silverstein is still good. They've stood the test of time and I can put discovering the waterfront on and sing along to every word like I'm in middle school still. Adtr and old escape the fate too, but only certain songs. A lot of the screaming is over the top in my opinion, and/or the singing is too whiny. Silverstein is the right combination of all the things. Love these guys.

The first Post-Hardcore group I ever heard, and I'll never stop being a fan. for 20 years they've been staples of the genre, practically inventing it by fusing goth and emo sounds with experimental post-punk beats and grooves that helped cement the genre in the early 00's before metalcore overtook it and became the stigmatized norm it is now. When talking post-hardcore, we must remember that it has eras of sound that are very unique. from the post-punk originators of Fugazi, to the Post-hardcore sound most of us grew up with like Silverstein and Alexisonfire, to the glitzy pop-inspired sounds of metalcore bands like Escape the Fate and Sleeping with Sirens. When we combine all three into a single genre, its clear what bands stand the test of time and scrutiny.

Silverstein is the best post hardcore band, not all these PTV SWS gay crap. And AA, OM&M, BMTH is metalcore they are different
Silverstein has meaningful lyrics, post hardcore elements in terms of musicality, gay voice with screaming does not make you hardcore

I love how this, PtV, and Alesana are the only three actual post-hardcore bands in the Top 10. The other 7 are metalcore.

5 Sleeping with Sirens Sleeping with Sirens is an American rock band from Orlando, Florida currently residing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The band currently consists of Kellin Quinn, Gabe Barham, Jack Fowler, Nick Martin, and Justin Hills.

Sleeping With Sirens, with Falling In Reverse, Escape The Fate and Pierce The Veil are THE post-hardcore bands, for me. So it's pretty hard to choose, but I will have to go with SWS, their music just has some weird energy in it that makes it a bit better then the other. Probably it's Kellin's voice... And Jack's guitar.
by the way. I love BMTH and Asking Alexandria, but I don't consider them post-hardcore, although they sound a bit like that.

Kellin Quinn's voice is something that not a lot of artists have. His range is very big and his talent is amazing. That being said the rest of the band is awesome as well even though they're not as praised as Kellin. Even though their misic may be post hardcore and some people may find that their sound is brutal, their songs always have good messages

My Top 3 bands are in the Top 3! But I don't think bring Me The Horizon is really Post-Hardcore. Kellin's voice is unique among other singers I've heard and I love EVERY SINGLE ONE of there songs whereas I find (only a few mind) PTV songs good but not really make me want to listen.

I love every single album, the variety, originality, and Kellin's unique voice. The acoustic versions and heavier songs are equally as good, with brilliant lyricism that sticks in my head all day. Without a doubt my favourite band.

6 Asking Alexandria Asking Alexandria are an English metalcore band from York, North Yorkshire formed initially in 2008 by lead guitarist Ben Bruce along with former lead singer Danny Worsnop, bassist Joe Lancaster, keyboardist and synth player Ryan Binns, and current members drummer James Cassells and rhythm guitarist more.

Best band EVER Danny worsnop ( vocalist ).
Can do it all sing he can do mid range screams
High, low deathcore screams.

Out of the 10 in this list they are the best.

No need to explain. AA is the best with danny worsnop.definitely
This band makes me get to this kind of music.

7 Of Mice & Men Of Mice & Men is an American metalcore band from Orange County, California. The band's lineup currently consists of lead vocalist and bassist Aaron Pauley, guitarists Phil Manansala and Alan Ashby, and drummer Valentino Arteaga.

The soul and metaphor poured into everything written by the band is so extraordinary I don't think any band has saved lives the way Of Mice And Men has. What Austin Carlile has been through and the strong unchanging outlook on life he has just puts such a firm grounding on the band. This band has given me personally such a firm structure on how to live life I don't think anyone could impact me the way this band has.

Austin Charlie is an amazing singer! His vocals are just great! At first I didn't like their stuff but after listening to O.G. loko, I immediately fell in love with the catchi-ness of the "Meet my Dedication, Inspiration" part. Even the band members are great people!

Of mice and men have amazing vocals and great screams with amazing breakdowns.

Greatest band to ever for and change peoples' lives. Truly perfect band.

8 Ice Nine Kills

What the hell? Ice nine kills are amazing they should be in the top 5! I'm telling you TOP 5! They are an amazing band with amazing choruses and lyrics. Listen to what I never learned in study hall or jonathan. Both are great and I'd slap you if you think they're bad

These guys aren't that bad, but I don't like them as much as most of the others on this list. One of their songs that I've heard is good.

Metalcore and post hardcore and amazing why are they not number one?

This band deserves to be way higher...amazing!

9 Alexisonfire Alexisonfire is a five-piece Canadian post-hardcore band that formed in St. Catharines, Ontario in 2001. The band consists of George Pettit, Dallas Green, Wade MacNeil, Chris Steele, and Jordan Hastings.

This is one of the best post hardcore bands to have existed. They are the reason these crap bands on top the list exist. They fused old post harcore and the new sound together to pave way for the horrible crap that is made today. There music was so powerful its sad they only played a handful of sold out shows before they broke up. And back together for the summer of 2015 tour they are only playing a handful again but hopefully to test the waters. We may have a true post hardcore band writing music again.

I'm shocked that AOF aren't in the top 3 of this list! Especially since that they're back together again! All of the other bands that are above have no clue what GOOD music is!

Such an original sound to their music and they have influenced many inferior copycats since. Just such a shame that they decied to split!

Woah, somethings wrong if these guys aren't in the top 10! It's a shame to see some of the bands ahead of AOF on this list. RIP!

10 Falling In Reverse Falling in Reverse is an American post hardcore band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2008, signed to Epitaph Records.

God, Radke sucks. I can't listen to his voice for 5 seconds without wanting to shoot myself. Sad part is, he gets all of the attention and overshadows the rest of the actually talented band. Same for most bands like this one.

Ronnie Radke used to be singer for Escape The Fate but when he got kicked out it he made Falling In Reverse. FIR has catchy songs, awesome beats, beautiful melodies.

This band deserves a spot in the top 5. Theve over came the bs and got the job done. And I've seen them live and I must say Ronnie Radke has the best live performance in the music scene.

I'm not sure if people understand what exactly is post-hardcore Well, surprise - it's definitely not metalcore.

The Contenders
11 Escape the Fate Escape the Fate is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, formed in 2005 and originally from Pahrump, Nevada. They are signed to Eleven Seven Music.

They don't just make a few good songs. All of their albums are enjoyable. This doesn't mean they have real nice songs. Picture Perfect, Ungrateful, The Aftermath (G3) are my favorites.

Escape the fate has done an amazing job of creating a beautiful album... 4 times! They are so underrated and they deserve to be bigger that falling in reverse... no offense ronnie

ETF is definitely better that sleeping with sirens. Craig mabbitt is so good at vocals ronnie was great too. ETF is innovative at every music it creates. Deserves to be in top 3 at least.

Escape the fate is absolutely amazing. Enough said.

12 Underoath Underoath is an American rock band from Tampa, Florida. Founded by Dallas Taylor and Luke Morton on November 30, 1997, in Ocala, Florida; subsequently its additional members were from Tampa.

Underoath was one of my first hardcore bands and will forever be one of my favorites, the reason why they should be first is because of their raw emotion and beautiful rhythms and melodies. They were was before their time and had one of the most talented drummers I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. By the way why isn't Dance Gavin Dance on this list?

Should be number one, they were ahead of their time. Without Underoath we wouldn't be able to enjoy most of the bands we listen to now. They stayed true to their real hardcore roots while they were breaking down boundaries too step by step! Still, they were never really considered as a "sell out" band

Without this inspirational band I bet half these bands on this list wouldn't be here today. Underoath has made some of the the best Post-hardcore/Metalcore songs to date. They never sold out, they just kept getting heavier and heavier throughout their amazing career.

It's funny trying to compare any others on this list with Underoath. They are in a league of their own. Amazing lyrics, other band comes close to them in this genre they helped define.

13 Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows

OK so I get the low ranking cause they only made one album but I mean come on it was good.

Yup.. the only album that they made was incredible.. probably the best album I heard in 2011

14 Enter Shikari

Technically Electro Post-harcore but post harcore all the same. This band has been using electro and post harcore in their music since they started back in 2006. They are so popular overseas in Europe that they sold out tours for past 2 albums. They express political messages like most p-hdcore bands do and not about emo heartbreak. True post hardcore bands songs are usually so different its hard to classify into one genre, they also use time changes, sing/scream, experiment with ambient/techno/ or effects pedal sounds, and have amazing drummers that do off beats majority of the time. This band does all of that. The only band doing something truly out of the box before anyone else was.

15 Glassjaw Glassjaw is an American post-hardcore band from Long Island, New York. The band is fronted by vocalist Daryl Palumbo and guitarist Justin Beck.

All these new fake post hardcore bands have nothing on bands like glassjaw. A true post hardcore band has ambient sounds, a great drummer that does off beats, experiments with sound, time changes, and meaningful lyrics not just about heartbreak. That's what glassjaw encompasses to this day. Glad they are back together.

Glassjaw is the Godfather of Post-Hardcore. Just like a previous comment mentioned, no one else on this list would even be relevant if it weren't for the foundation this band laid out before the genre even started to blow up at the turn of the century

None of those bands in the top 10 would be relevant without Glassjaw and At The Drive In. Tainting the Post-Hardcore legacy Glassjaw and At The Drive In created in the early 00's by not trying to be different to anyone else. Content with being generic

Amazing band that helped build the genre. I can't even believe they're not in the top 10. Daryl's clean and unclean vocals help create this genre.

16 We Came As Romans We Came as Romans (abbreviated as WCAR) is an American metalcore band from Troy, Michigan, formed in 2005. The band has gone through one name change and multiple lineup changes, and signed to Albany, New York label Equal Vision Records in 2009. We Came as Romans is managed by Outerloop Management and more.

WCAR are excellent. I saw them at Rockville and they were spot on.

17 Woe, Is Me

Ever since Tyler Carter left, they'll be different. But Hance Alligood is by far better and will make a great replacement.

18 Black Veil Brides Black Veil Brides is an American rock band currently consisting of Andy Biersack (vocals), Jinxx (guitar), Jake Pitts (guitar), Christian Coma (drums) and Ashley Purdy (bass), that formed in 2006 in Ohio. more.

Are you serious 34 have y'all heard andy's voice and scream and the guitar solos and the meaningful lyrics?

One of my favorite bands!

19 Memphis May Fire

Matty Mullins sounds awesome no matter what! One of my favorite bands.

20 My Chemical Romance My Chemical Romance was an American rock band from Jersey City, New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013. For much of their career, the band consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, bassist Mikey Way, and drummer Bob Bryar.

They aren't post hardcore. They're drummer doesn't do any time changes or any off beat drum skills just basic stuff I can play after only playing 5 times. And lyrics are all emo pop. I liked 1st album which was the epitome of emo, "vampires, honey" but after that it went straight pop emo with songs like imnotokay.
Someone told me the band was a bunch of rich snobs back in high school at least compared to those that went to that school in nj.

They deserve to be way higher! This band is the most amazing band on the planet. They have saved thousands of lives including my own. The lyrics to their songs are very sinister yet meaningful. They have such a good sound to them and an amazing vibe.

They're not always post hardcore but when they are, they're pretty awesome at it..
My Chemical Romance is one of my favourite bands I think they deserve to be on here at least somewhere

I hate their fanbase, but this band rocks! They were theatrical, incredibly talented, and just amazing. They will always be in my top 10 for sure.

21 Dance Gavin Dance

Dance Gavin Dance is easily the best post-hardcore band on this list. All of the vocalists (particularly Tilian) are incredible. Will Swan is amazing. All of their songs are catchy and so intricate I don't understand how you people can think My Chemical Romance is better.

Great, all of the emos invaded this list and put asking alexandria and My Chemical Romance so high up. this band deserves more credit

So much catchy, it's like find order in chaos.

Should be Number 1

22 Fugazi Fugazi is an American punk rock band that formed in Washington, D.C. in 1987. The band consists of guitarists and vocalists Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto, bassist Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty.

Fugazi essentially made post-hardcore a genre. The fact that they are this low on the list shows me that there is a significant rift between the original post-hardcore, and what is big right now. It is essentially like there are two or three different genres with the same name.

I personally don't understand why the top ten looks like that. Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, Jawbox, Rites Of Spring, Glassjaw and Thrice deserve to be up there!

Wow. No one hear actually knows the meaning of post-hardcore/emocore. Real p-h is Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Rites of Spring, At The Drive In, The Mars Volta, Glassjaw... Not stupid Of Mice and Men.

Post hardcore fans, please, vote this band to be number one.

23 Our Last Night

Real Post-Hardcore band.
Lots of bands on the list are mostly Metalcore but not really Post Hardcore

A truly amazing band!

24 Dillinger Escape Plan The Dillinger Escape Plan was an American metalcore band formed in Morris Plains, New Jersey, in 1997.

Dillinger Escape Plan is one of the first post hardcore bands and easily the standard of what the genre sound encompasses. Time changes, ambient sounds, and powerful lyrics sung/screamed by a talented singer. These bands have the best drummers in the scene. I first heard them when Mike Patton was the singer in 2000 at a show where he finished by taking a dump on the pa speaker. Needless to say I can see why they replaced him pretty soon after with the similarly looking new singer who is good if not better in my opinion but a lot like the old better.

25 A Skylit Drive

How are they not in the top 20? They deserve at LEAST that if not higher. Wires and the Concept of Breathing is one of my favorite albums of all time, and All It Takes For Your Dreams to Come True was the song that first got me into heavy music.

If I could kill for one voice, it'd be for the singer of this band. His voice is beautiful. And the screams are just amazing.

Amazing mix of powerful (yet beautiful) vocals, Brian Whiite and the drummer's deep growls put together so pefectly... Nothing can beat it.
