Top 10 Progressive Metal Bands Formed in the 21st Century

The 80s gave us Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Queensrÿche, Fates Warning.
The 90s - Opeth and Symphony X.
What bands were born in the 21st Century?

I didn't include some bands because they aren't on Encyclopaedia Metallum (aka Metal Archives) and I can see why - Tesseract, Periphery.
The Top Ten
1 Ne Obliviscaris Ne Obliviscaris (Latin for "forget not") are an extreme progressive metal band from Melbourne, Australia, formed in 2003.

Subgenre: Extreme Progressive Metal.
For me they are mostly Progressive Death Metal - their songs include both death growls and clean vocals, heavier and softer parts (this is the approach of Opeth).

2 Obscura Obscura is a technical/progressive death metal band from Germany, founded in 2002. The band became prominent when members of Necrophagist and Pestilence joined Steffen Kummerer to release the critically acclaimed second full-length album, Cosmogenesis. The band was named after the Gorguts album Obscura.

Subgenres: Progressive Death Metal, Technical Death Metal

3 Beyond Creation Beyond Creation is a Canadian technical death metal band from Montreal, Quebec. They are currently signed to Season of Mist records.

Subgenres: Progressive Death Metal, Technical Death Metal

4 Persefone Persefone is an Andorran progressive melodic death metal band formed in October 2001. The band's name is derived from Persephone, a figure in Greek Mythology.

Subgenres: Progressive Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal

5 Mastodon Mastodon is an American heavy metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in early 2000 and composed of bassist Troy Sanders, guitarists Brent Hinds and Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor.

Subgenres: Progressive Metal, Progressive Rock, Sludge Metal
Yes, I didn't put them in the top 3 because I think this band tends to be overrated - I mean people usually expect to see them on top spots but I think there are more deserving bands, although lesser known.

6 Blotted Science Blotted Science is an instrumental technical metal supergroup formed in 2004. It is headed by Ron Jarzombek, bassist Alex Webster and drummer Hannes Grossmann.

Subgenre: Instrumental Progressive Metal

7 Haken Haken are an English progressive metal band formed in 2007 by multi-instrumentalist Richard Henshall, guitarist Matthew Marshall, and vocalist Ross Jennings.
8 Theocracy Theocracy is a Christian progressive power metal band founded in 2002 by Matt Smith of Athens, Georgia.

Subgenre: progressive power metal.
This subgenre combination is relatively rare and the band does it pretty good.

9 Gojira Gojira is a progressive metal band from Bayonne, France. The band was known as Godzilla until 2001. Gojira is composed of Joe Duplantier on vocals and rhythm guitar, his brother Mario Duplantier on drums, Christian Andreu on lead guitar, and Jean-Michel Labadie on bass.

This band is very good but I can't put them higher because they were originally formed in 1996 as Godzilla and this list doesn't include bands formed in the 90s.
But they changed their name to Gojira in 2001 and this makes them eligible.

The Contenders
11 Between the Buried and Me Between the Buried and Me is an American progressive metal band from Raleigh, North Carolina. Formed in 2000, the band consists of Tommy Giles Rogers, Jr.

Last because they aren't on Encyclopaedia Metallum (aka Metal Archives) but I think they are very close to metal. I believe they've got the needed potential to release a metal album.
