Greatest Progressive Metal Bands

The Contenders: Page 5

81 Versailles
82 Rishloo

Rishloo is just one of the few good things that will happen in your life. Period. Vocals rule, atmosphere rules, instrumentation rules. At first their sound is similar to Tool, but don't let that stop you. Their sophomore album takes them away from what they used to be. We're talking about one of the greatest and most talented bands out there.

One of the most musically creative bands there are. Still fairly unknow due to their highly deep music and the fact that all their albums are self-published. My favourite band with TOOL and Karnivool.

83 Evergrey

Really underestimated band (hymns for the broken is an epic album! ).

Evergrey should be in the 5 of this list.

84 Extol Extol Extol are a progressive extreme Christian metal band from Bekkestua, Norway that was formed in 1993. The band is known for playing a variety of different styles of metal which include progressive metal, death metal, black metal and thrash metal.
85 Soen

If Tool and Opeth would be entities capable of reproducing, this band is probably what their offspring would sound like.

Can't believe this band is so under rated! This band mixes their music with so much emotions. Such a beauty and style.

Most underrated band...soen must be in 4th place

One of my favourite progressive metal bands ever. Savia's drum solo will blow out your ears.

86 The Contortionist The Contortionist The Contortionist is an American progressive metal band from Indianapolis, Indiana. Formed in 2007, the band consists of guitarists Robby Baca and Cameron Maynard, drummer Joey Baca, vocalist Mike Lessard, bassist Jordan Eberhardt, and keyboardist Eric Guenther.

Technical and modern, this band from their first album "Exoplanet" to their newest addition "Language" continues to flourish, if you may. They started out on a more deathcore-like structure, but have really come to grasp the artistic values of progressive metal, in more recent times. Give Language a listen to really appreciate their sound.

These guys are way too low on the list!

They're avesome! Language is a great album! They should be higher on the list!

88 Chon

Brilliant musicians. Every song is a beautiful composition. Modern prog with a more calm sound. Good for listening to in the mornings and appeals to a wider audience while still retaining excellent technical musicianship.

Best new and modern progressive sound of the decade!

89 Adagio

Good French Prog metal. Great technical skills.

90 Third Eye

If you are into prog metalwith a dark twist, try listen to the danish band Third eye with Per Johansson on vocals and with guest keyboard player Finn Zierler. Check it out

91 Intervals

One of my favourite bands, the instrumentals are sheer bliss to listen to and their vocal album "A voice within" is absolutely fantastic and well put together. Really worth a listen if you like clean vocals.

These guys rule! I know everyone says that about their favorite, but for their musicianship, understanding of polyrhythms, and just the overall way they carry themselves in their interviews, they deserve to be listened to.

-A. Ulm

92 Dominici

Tight, Heavy, Progressive, and Metal. Any fan of Dream Theater should try listening to Dominici's O3 A Trilogy Part 3. Can you say EPIC?

93 Theocracy Theocracy Theocracy is a Christian progressive power metal band founded in 2002 by Matt Smith of Athens, Georgia.

Theocracy should be in the top ten, even though they are Christian.

This amazing band is relatively obscure, but they are definjtaly one of the best progressive-power metal bands out there today.

94 maudlin Of The Well

Beautiful, eerie, and haunting band that deserves more attention among metal fans rather than the little hipster circles of the internet.

Absolutely phenomenal blend of countless styles of music. Experimental music at its finest.

98 Caligula's Horse

Okay, this is one of my favourite bands on the list. Why? Beautiful music, amazing instrumentals... With a band name like THAT, they're worth a listen. What I love about them most is the fact that they obviously spend a lot of time on their lyrics. Their songs are deep, emotional and even poetic. It's not "just" music - it's so much more. The more you listen to them, the more it gets to you. Plus, they're so inherently "progressive metal", even if you don't love them, you can't really dislike them.

99 Blotted Science Blotted Science

They should be at the top 5. For creativity, heaviness, musicianship and talent

This list is stupid. These guys should be at the top.

100 Novembre

Rediculously underrated band. Think of what would happen if you melded the progressive stylings of Opeth with the ethereal atmospheres of Agalloch, and added some Katatonia-esqu goth and doom to the mix. This band deserves to be in the highest echelon of progressive metal! Just as incredible as Opeth, if not, even better.
