Top 10 Proofs of Chrono Trigger Being Good but Completely Overrated

1 Game is focused far, FAR too much on graphical and musical spectacle over actual gameplay and storytelling

2 Combat is flat-out ridiculously easy and boring and revolves around an overhyped "real-time" gimmick that Final Fantasy had already done YEARS before it

3 Characters are one-dimensional cardboard cutouts even for the time

4 Storyline is also just a shallow, dumbed-down Back To The Future take on the one from Final Fantasy VI but with Kefka replaced by Lavos

5 New Game Plus is pointless, game-breaking and tedious because the monsters never actually properly scale to your characters' current levels in the game

6 Everyone always calling it the undisputed best role-playing game of all time, when even its sequel Chrono Cross had vastly better gameplay overall

7 Final Fantasy haters always saying it's so much different from and better than Final Fantasy when it really isn't for the most part

Seriously, nearly (if not) all of the same cliches are still there

8 The whole "lack of random battles" thing was also done considerably better by Earthbound, albeit with nowhere near as flashy of graphics

9 Nearly every ending besides the main two is just a pointless joke ending; have fun collecting all ten or eleven or so of those

10 Contrary to popular belief, you actually CAN get stuck horribly early in the game; in fact, it's happened to quite a few players before upon exiting their first Future visits
