The Top Ten
1 German Shepherd The German Shepherd is a breed of medium to large-sized working dog that originated in Germany. The breed's officially recognized name is German Shepherd Dog in the English language. The breed is known as the Alsatian in Britain and Ireland.

SO my aunt has a shepherd mix who HATES other dogs execpt one dog but we're not focusing on that dog. So this mixd breed dog comes running up to me growling when I'm walking her and ella (that's my aunts dogs name) jumps up and growls so loud. my aunt grabs the leash and I run back because it was nasty. The cousin comes in ans starts kicking the other dog with his foot until the dog starts to chase my little brother, which made ella think one thing "Kill. Protect." and her hair was standing up. Truth is, ella wouldve killed that other dog. She's not afraid to protect her loved ones.

2 Rottweiler The Rottweiler is a breed of domestic dog, regarded as medium-to-large or large. The dogs were known in German as Rottweiler Metzgerhund, meaning Rottweil butchers' dogs, because one of their uses was to herd livestock and pull carts laden with butchered meat to market.

When I was a baby and we went on a walk, my Rottweiler would literally check on me every few minutes.

Scrap this dog as well again Aggressive, dangerous and has no place on the planet.

I own a 3 year old male Rottweiler and he's the best thing that happened to me.

3 Labrador Retriever The Labrador Retriever, also Labrador, is a sporting dog bred for aquatic game. The Labrador is one of the most popular breeds of dog in the United Kingdom and the United States.

My dogs have always protected me. Once when I was a young baby, my mom was in the shower. If me or my brother made ONE NOISE, he would go to the bathroom, take his head and open the curtain of the shower, and make my mom come out. The dog I currently have, when I cry she will always be beside me. I love my dog I have now, and I love Max.
R.I.P. Max

I have a black lab mix she is the best dog. She is VERY protective of our family. She is also VERY gentle. And I would have to say that she is the best dog I have ever had.

Labradors and Golden Retrievers share the top spot here, awesome family dogs, loving and loyal and will never turn on a person like other dogs like shephard, dobermans, rotwielers, pitbulls these dogs are not cute, they are DANGEROUS.

4 Doberman Pinscher The Doberman Pinscher, or Dobermann, or Doberman, is a medium-large breed of domestic dog originally developed around 1890 by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, a tax collector from Germany.

SCRAP this dog, its only feature is to be aggressive, they are not cute just dangerous and have place on the planet.

Dobermans can protect a big spot of land becuse they can run fast!
But they are not good with children and are not good family dogs.

5 Bullmastiff The Bullmastiff is a large-size breed of domestic dog, with a solid build and a short muzzle. The Bullmastiff shares the characteristics of molosser dogs, and was originally developed by 19th-century gamekeepers to guard estates.

My bullmastiff Gus will do anything I ask and would protect me to the death if need be, always let's me know if someone is around but never in an overtly aggressive way. Wonderful family dog my kids can use him as a pillow, jungle-gym, or anything in between.

I currently own a 5 year old Bullmastiff named Diesel. This dog would literally protect me to the death, yet he has been trained to do so. He makes a very good protection dogs and I don't think anyone would be messing with me any time soon!

My bullmastiff passed away three months ago. We are still grieving... He was the most awesome pet. So kind and extremely protective of his family. He was always by my side. So loving to all of us. Best dog!

6 Border Collie The Border Collie is a working and herding dog breed developed in the Anglo-Scottish border region for herding livestock, especially sheep.

My border collie isn't that protective, but that's just her personality.

My border collie is very protective (she's fence aggressive but the sweetest thing you'll ever meet)

7 Siberian Husky The Siberian Husky is a medium size, dense-coat working dog breed that originated in north-eastern Siberia.

I have a Husky mix, and he is VERY PROCTECTIVE. He is super sweet and kind to everybody, but even if me and my dad are wrestling, he gets extremely upset because he thinks we are hurting each other. He is very protective of our house and yard. Many people think huskies would leave with a burglar and aren't good guard dogs, but I have to disagree. My husky is an excellent watch dog with excellent hearing, and he is also pretty intimidating being so big and with his sharp teeth and fierce growl and bark when he is upset.

8 Pit Bulls The American Pit Bull Terrier is a dog breed. It is a medium-sized, solidly-built, short-haired dog whose early ancestors came from the British Isles.

I have a 2 year Pit Bull and he's very protective, even around my dad's friends. He'll bark and growl until someone puts him outside to bark. Chihuahuas are very snappish; I should know, my neighbors have 2. But when it comes to size, Pit Bulls have won. Yeah they can bark at the thief but that's it. Whenever my cat comes into the house, he barks at her so we just decided to take her to SC where my cousins live. He even barks at my poor fish! So, extremely protective of their home,
~Owlpaw

Pit bulls are known to be aggressive because owners don't know how to take care of them properly search up Cesar Millan and find out how to really take care of you dog.

9 Akita

Yes a bit too protective in my opinion. There's one chained up down our road and I'm scared because it barks at EVERYONE that walked past and jumps and stuff

10 Giant Schnauzer

I used to have a giant schnauzer. Wait no it was a miniature schnauzer sorry. They were great dogs. When I was about 2 they would always be by my side, since I had epilepsy. They watched me eat jello when my dad fed it to me, and if any dropped, would kindly make sure to clean the floor right away. These are great dogs

Chihuahua's are a very protective breed. Mine saved my life, and I will always be grateful. They may be small, but they are smart and agile. If I had to chose between getting attacked by a big dog or getting attacked by a chihuahua I'd pick the big dog. A chihuahua who has labeled you a threat to their pack, will not back down. they deserve far more respect as a breed then they get.

Very protective... Love these dogs! They just want to protect their owner. They are very sweet in my opinion.

They make good watchdogs but can't scare people away.
So they can't be guard dogs.

16 Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever is a large-sized breed of dog bred as gun dogs to retrieve shot waterfowl such as ducks and upland game birds during hunting and shooting parties, and were named 'retriever' because of their ability to retrieve shot game undamaged.

Ok, I have a golden retriever with black lab, (Which should be on this list.) And he is SO protective. He HATES men and he still will attack women though. My dog had to go to the vet for the first time and we had to switch vets because our first one was a male had he hated him. He will attack any dog or person hat comes near me or the yard. He has a doggie gf and the female dog named ruby had puppies with him. Ever since ruby and her family moved away, my dog has been so devastated.

My friend's golden retriever who is only 2 months old barks at me when I enter their house. She is sweet when she gets used to you, but she will bark at anyone who didn't come about 6 times in a row.

I love st brenards. they are adorable as puppies and even though I don't have one of my own, they are so awesome, and I really want one. They are protective as well. I love this breed of dog, no matter how much it sheds or drools.

24 Pug The Pug is a breed of dog with a wrinkly, short-muzzled face and curled tail. A pug on this list. Seriously? I like pugs but they're not "protective dogs." Although there were cases of pugs saving people, those were not from dangerous people or dangerous animals.

25 Great Pyrenees The Pyrenean Mountain Dog, known as the Great Pyrenees in North America, is a large breed of dog used as a livestock guardian dog.
