Top 10 Ralf Scheepers Vocal Performances

Ralf Scheepers is one of the best German metal singers known for sounding like Rob Halford of Judas Priest.

His total range is over 5 octaves. Ralf is a baritenor, which is a pretty unique combination (baritone voice, tenor range). His singing voice is tenor-esque, high-pitched and embellished with Halford-esque shrieks.

Ralf sings heavy metal, speed metal and power metal. He's been the lead singer for Primal Fear since 1997. In the early 90s he was a lead vocalist for Gamma Ray - another famous German metal band.

In 2011 Ralf released a solo album as Scheepers. He's also a vocal coach.
The Top Ten
1 The Man (That I Don't Know) - Primal Fear

Very emotional and impressive vocal performance. For details about his vocal technique, try 4:00-4:45 and make conclusions. His sustain is godly.

2 18 Years - Gamma Ray

Just hear it - you'll get everything.
What makes me sad is that very often the songs with the best vocal performances aren't the most popular songs from the relevant bands - I've noticed that so many times in metal.

3 I Want Out - Gamma Ray

I mean the live version from "Heading for the East" videos / DVD. This is a Helloween song that Ralf used to sing live with Gamma Ray.
His effortless sustain of 15 seconds (live! ) blew my mind (2:35). You just have to see Ralf in this live video! I've never seen anything like that - so effortless, so lazy but so efficient.
The video is available on YouTube but it's difficult to find. If you are interested, don't hesitate to message me for the correct link.
PS. The song sample below is with Kai Hansen vocals and not Ralf.

4 Diabolus - Primal Fear

Perfect vox to a perfect song. You can also hear Ralf's lowest note ever (B1) - hey, the total range of this guy is over 5 octaves.

5 All for One - Primal Fear

Ralf sings almost acapella for 1 minute in the intro, then gives a cool and long scream, and then switches to his typical vox.

6 Strike - Primal Fear
7 Where Angels Die - Primal Fear

Epic song, 8:09 min long

8 Before the Dawn - Scheepers

A Judas Priest cover Ralf did in 2011 (at 46) but he still sounds so much like the young Rob Halford in 1978 (Rob was 27).
Judging by the way Ralf sings this ballad, I'd say this is his most favorite song of all time - he puts so much love in this vocal performance. Rob Halford is his vocal god and Judas Priest - his fave band.

9 And There Was Silence - Primal Fear

Impressive long sustain again (4:40)

10 Horus' Eye - SoulSpell Metal Opera
The Contenders
11 Bleed for Me - Primal Fear

Some really nice high notes (B5).

12 Fighting The Darkness - Primal Fear
13 Nuclear Fire - Primal Fear
14 The Pain Of The Accused - Scheepers
15 The Wild Hunt - Therion w/Scheepers
16 Silver and Gold - Primal Fear
17 Demons and Angels - Primal Fear
18 King for a Day - Primal Fear
19 Black Rain - Primal Fear
20 Metal Gods - Primal Fear

One of the best Judas Priest covers ever.

21 Last Before the Storm - Gamma Ray

Song sample is not the needed one - it's Kai and not Ralf.

22 Conviction - Primal Fear
23 Everytime It Rains - Primal Fear
24 The Immortal Ones - Primal Fear
25 Under Your Spell - Primal Fear

This is one of Ralf's favorite Primal Fear songs.
