Top Ten Rankin Bass Characters

The Top Ten
1 Santa Claus

It depends on which version. Santa in the original Rudolph is, we'll say, controversial, with some things he said, but they can be seen in two different ways (either he thinks Rudy's nose was a disability or he knew the reindeer could be cruel to differences, and felt Donner's covering up was not the proper way to handle it, though it's hard to tell at first, he actually was calling out on Donner treating Rudolph badly there, not for having Rudolph like that), and while he does have a crabby side there, it's mostly played for laughs and he does have a lovely jolly side to him too. Santa in Santa Claus is Comin to Town and Year Without a Santa Claus, however, is by far the best interpretation of Santa, Mickey Rooney captured his fatherly, kind, jolly behavior perfectly.

I also forgot to mention about the Santa from Frosty too. He was an excellent character too, comforting Karen and letting her know Frosty wasn't really gone, and the way he dealt with Hinkle is always hilarious, telling him if he takes the hat, he'll never get another present ever, and Hinkle must write "I'm very sorry for what I did" a hundred zillion times, and then he'd get a present, and then it seems Hinkle did just that, nobody messes with Santa, LOL.

Probably depends which version/special Santa's from. Santa from the original Rudolph special is kinda, controversial with some of the things he says, but they can be taken in two different ways (if you don't know what I mean, look at the comment by this guy "Choryllis" on here: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=d9Kw9VSBWNg), depends on how you look at it (and times have changed but probably not for the better). But he does have a jolly side shown and some crabbiness he has (like "That silly elf song is driving me crazy! " which can be understandable hearing the same song over and over) can be funny.

I love Mickey Rooney's Santa best though, Rooney, in the wonderful "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town", and "The Year Without a Santa Claus" perfectly captured the father figure, jolliness, kindness and love that Santa Claus has and stands for, he is the role I've remembered said famous actor most as.

Voiced Excellently By The Late Mickey Rooney
