Top 10 Reasons to Hate Hair/Glam Metalryanrimmel
The Top Ten
"Everything that isn't metal is automatically bad". Not that I'm defending glam, I hate what it was, but it's done. Grunge killed it. I don't see why people still complain. There were a few good glam bands in the beginning of the genre (Dokken, W.A.S.P., The first few Ratt albums, Motley Crue, definitely Leppard, Europe, Krokus, etc.). But afterwards, it became mainstream crap (Poison, Warrant, Winger, Whitesnake, Pretty Boy Floyd). The only good one out of those later bands was Skid Row. But it is over now. Calm down. - Caleb9000
Glam is really just hard rock, they should just call it Glam Rock. People who listen to Motley Crue and Poison that call themselves metalheads are not real metalheads, if they heard Slayer, they would be scared. - ryanrimmel
There are two main genres to Glam, rock and metal. Some of the glam metal bands back then rocked just as loud as heavy metal bands, for example W.A.S.P. Don't come telling those guys weren't metal...
It's Rock! Everyone needs to look at these artist like you view other bands from the 70's and 80's.
Thin Lizzie, Deep Purple, T Rex, Heart, Boston, Foreigner, and so on.
A lot of the glam rock songs are about partying, having sex with pretty ladies and living the HELL out of life.
How did that become so uncool?
"YOU CAN'T STOP ROCK AND ROLL"!
This is the only thing everybody can agree on, the stereotypical costumes glam artists wore were simply ridiculous. However, back then many artists wore feminine clothes, tights, makeup, and of course had long hair. That went for all pop artists in the 80s, really. It was the stage fashion, as simple as that.
I'm not one who cares about someone's clothes, but what is this? They have skin tight pants and suits, makeup, weird colors, and they expose their stomach more than a freshman in high school. And to top it off, that hair that looks like a hairball. - ryanrimmelV 2 Comments
Blatant Sexism. - Caleb9000
Every Glam musician looks like a chick, and they all have chick names like Nikki and Razzle. - ryanrimmel
People don't give Thrash or any other subgenre a chance because they assume it's the same thing as Glam - ryanrimmel
"Glam reduced Metal to caricature, drawing on a shallow combination of pop cliché and sophomoric sexual pandering for its inspiration." (Sam Dunn, in Metal Evolution, documentary) - Metal_Treasure
Why does every Glam musician have long hair that looks like a girls hair? - ryanrimmel
Back when Glam was popular, only girls were attracted to bands like Poison, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, etc. Motley Crue, definitely Leppard, and Skid Row were the only ones that were popular to men. - ryanrimmelV 2 Comments
Why? I love Glam Metal/ Rock and I like a lot of stuff? In my humble opinion, I think Glam is great! - MusicalPony
I love Motley Crue and Skid Row, and I'll listen to definitely Leppard on occasion, but other than that, it's one big trainwreck. - ryanrimmel
Basically take hard rock and pop and mix them together.
HARD ROCK + POP = GLAM - ryanrimmel
This is very insightful, Ryan. Yes, this is the formula! - Metal_Treasure
True metal is exactly the opposite case. - Metal_Treasure
Elitist thrashers and whiny grunge fans just mad that glam metal guys take all the hot chicks from them...while looking like hot chicks themselves!
