Types Of Mary Sues

TwilightKitsune
Hello inferior beings. Today your master TwilightKitsune will be teaching you young Neanderthals about Types Of Mary Sues.

What is a mary-sue, lord and savior TwilightKitsune?

Well, um…. *googles it* Ah yes! A mary sue is a character who is absolutely perfect and has no flaws. They get everything, are hailed as heroes, get chased by people for marriage proposals, you name it. In short, they’re perfect. Nothing can go wrong with a mary sue at your disposal. Did your ex best friend burn down your garden? Don’t worry, the mary-sue can magically fix everything with her amazing gardening skills! Did you accidentally run over your boyfriend with your husband’s car? No fear, the mary sue can bring him back with the power of FRIENDSHIP! Is your dog dying of cancer? No problem, the mary sue just creates a cure out of nowhere! Get what I mean? They’re PERFECT.

And that’s EXACTLY the problem with them. They can’t do anything wrong. They’re innocent. They’re flawless. They’re bland. And after a while, you just get sick of that character. We don’t care if the Trix allied up with Tritannus, we know you’ll beat them anyway like you always do. We don’t care if Vilgax wants to take over the universe, everyone does that. No, we’re not curious what jutsu you’re gonna use against Naruto, because you are an overpowered Uchiha bitch.
Anyway, here are the types of mary sues, so you can tell if the character is one or not.

Warror!-Sue: This sue is usually loud, obnoxious and an obvious warrior. She’ll usually have some tragic past that led to her becoming a warrior and she’ll upstage the Canonical characters with her mad Sueish powerz.
Example: Bloom (Winx Club)

Mage!-Sue: Similar to the Warrior!-Sue the Mage!-Sue has amazing strength in magic, or a magical power that nobody else has. She’ll usually wind up upstaging all of the main characters of the show
Example: Rainbow Dash (MLP)

Misfit!-Sue: This includes all Sues who are supposedly geeks, nerds, misfits, etc. Usually the Misfit-Sue doesn’t start out as inhumanely beautiful but winds up getting a makeover and finding out that s/he has the potential to become a guy/girl magnet. Also includes ‘My parents want me to ____________ and it’s not fair11111!111!’ and is not the most popular girl in school.
Example: Nikki Maxwell (Dork Diaries)

Note: Thanks to zanhar1 on Fanpop for coming up with the first three

Chosen-Sue: This Sue is a normal ordinary girl or guy, who becomes ‘The Chosen One’ for no reason/an illogical reason. The Sue then becomes the most powerful thing in the damn universe. They are nothing without their ‘Chosen-One’ status. Take it away from then and they’ll fall.
Example: Harry Potter (Harry Potter)

Sympathy-Sue: This is one of my least favourite Sues of all time. The Sue who does absolutely NOTHING in the whole show and is still credited for doing something that someone else did. She gets a pass for everything she does, because of his/her ‘sad’ backstory. She can even do bad things and get away with it, for example: Timmy accidentally spills juice on Sympathy-Sue. Sympathy-Sue burns down his house. Everyone agrees that Sympathy-Sue’s act was justified. Okay, look, I understand if people act harshly if they’re hurt, and I am one of those people. But you can’t just attack someone over something as trivial as that. In fact, Sympathy-Sue’s backstory is used SO much that it loses all its meaning and has no relevance to anything anymore.
Example: Shadow The Hedgehog (Sonic The Hedgehog)

Magnet-Sue: The Magnet-Sue is a character who attracts guys/girls because they’re ‘hot’ and have good looks. It’s mostly anime guys (e.g Gary from Pokémon, Kirito from Sword Art Online and Prince Charming. YES PRINCE CHARMING IS AN ANIME CHARACTER HANDS DOWN). It applies to most Disney princesses, notably Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Aurora and Rapunzel. Why can’t we have great Disney Princesses who actually DO something like Mulan? Anyway, all the guys/girls love this character, which the character uses to manupilate for his/her wants or needs. It could also be a harem character with no idea he has a harem. They are also somewhat stupidly overpowered.
Example: Light Yagami (Death Note)

Confused-Sue: Often confused with Misfit-Sue. The Confused-Sue is someone who has no idea of his or her identity. This would applies to the Season 1 Bloom from Winx Club. She was all ‘OmG I don’t know my true parents’ and ‘Omg my life sucks’. In the end they find out who they are, and they act like a spoilt brat about it, and brush away all the things they already had. Like when Bloom found out who her real parents were, what did she do to the very couple that raised her and fed all her needs? THREW THEM OUT LIKE USED KLEENEX OR SOMETHING! Dude, that was so WRONG on so many levels. Screw you Bloom. Screw you.
Example: Any Barbie movie where Barbie is a princess (aka 99% of them)

Ungrateful-Sue: A Sue who has all her needs in one place, and is STILL not satisfied. She never stops complaining and whining about how much her life sucks. An example: Sue is the princess of a kingdom in another world but lives on earth to hide her secret identity from her evil uncle who wants to take over her planet cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché cliché. Now, although Sue is cherished throughout her kingdom as a hero, she has to deal with a sad, shocking tragedy! Gasp! What may this unfortunate tragedy be?
Sue: UGH MY LIFE SUCKS! I HAVE SO MUCH HOMEOWRK TO DO!

Writers of this show, move over. I’m taking it from here. I’ll make a new episode for the show.

Episode Name: “Sue gets what she deserves”

Season and Episode Number: S88E2069

Plot: Sue falls off a bridge, breaks her neck and dies. THE END.

Hope you enjoyed this. If there are more I'll update it.

I really hate people saying Twilight Sparkle is a mary-sue, I love her with a passion, they should just pick it on Rainbow Dash instead, which I also like but is kinda more tolerable to me. - Neonco31

I know right? - TwilightKitsune

Does Mika Koizumi from the B Daman review I did count in your opinion? In mine, she Is a mary sue. Just like what I said In the messages. The story itself contains:
65% Filler stuff
20% The whole Samuru x OC thing
5% Samuru's POVs
And the other 10% are either praises for Mika from other characters, stuff about Mika, and more positive things about Mika.

She was kind of one dimensional and annoying to me.
Good post, though - MLPFan

Yep. Mary Sue alright - TwilightKitsune

*This comment will probably cause some hatred around here*

I feel like I'm in a similar situation with Neonco31 here. I get Kirito from Sword Art Online is pretty overpowered, but I have many arguments defending that he isn't a Gary Stu like many people make him out to be. You classify Kirito as a "Magnet-Sue" just because he supposedly has about five girls as of Sword Art Online II as his friends, giving off the assumption that he has a "harem".

Honestly, I think you're wrong here.

Let's take a look at your definition of a Magnet-Sue:

"The Magnet-Sue is a character who attracts guys/girls because they’re ‘hot’ and have good looks. It’s mostly anime guys".

Uh, it's not like Asuna, Silica, Lisbeth, Sinon, or Leafa fell head over heels for him the first time they met him just for his looks. In fact, most, if not, all of them were initially not fond of him when they first met him. However, the reason they became his friends (with Asuna becoming Kirito's girlfriend) was not due to his looks, but because of his interactions with them and how he helped them through his actions. For example, when Asuna first met Kirito, she didn't immediately fall in love with him. It wasn't until they had to work together again and Kirito and Asuna saved each other from a deadly encounter with a traitor from the Knights of the Blood Oath did they finally fall in love with each other.

So to sum things up, from what I've gathered from research and prior knowledge, I can confidently conclude that Kirito is not a Gary Stu. - ModernSpongeBobSucks

Sort of a Magnet Sue. And Also, Alicia Rue and those ALO girls liked him for his looks - TwilightKitsune

Uh, you do realize they only started to like him after he defeated General Eugene and helped to prevent further conflict between the fairy races? You keep on insisting that the girls only like Kirito for his looks when he technically HELPED them through his actions, which was what made the girls like Kirito in the first place, not by his looks.. - ModernSpongeBobSucks

How to smell a mary sues (i can smell them):
•Their appearances (they wears many rainbow outfits with glitters, jewelries, or whatever).
•They have multiple color hair (like pink-blue-purple-green (what? ) and wears ribbons).
•They always get everything, their problems get solved instantly, they are flawless, everything is positive about them. They no have problem.

This is a reasons why I should be careful to make OCs. - visitor

Appearances and personality doesn't always affect your OC, even a happy-go-positive character can also experience negativity in any form so it's up to you how you make your OC - Neonco31

Wow, there should be a perfume for Mary Sues - TwilightKitsune

Another example about:
Warrior Sue: Rose Cinderella from Regal Academy.
Chosen Sue: Jim Lake from Trollhunters. - visitor

The guy who made Regal Academy also made Stinx Club - TwilightKitsune

Although I like Miraculous Ladybug, make sure that Adrien/Cat Noir would go to the "Magnet-Sue" category because he is more likable. I hate to say this since he is my favorite and the girls like Marinette and Chloe loves him. Plus, every Miraculers though Adrien/Cat Noir is too perfect, while in reality, he has a flaw: allergic to feathers. Yeah, sure Adrien/Cat Noir will go to "Magnet-Sue" category, however, since he has a flaw like I mention above and he is not really overpowered as Cat Noir (he only have a staff and Cataclysm, a deconsctruction power), I think he wouldn't.

About "Warrior-Sue", I think it reminds me of Marinette/Ladybug (yeah, Marinette is loud and sometimes a bit annoying). But, since Mari didn't have a tragic backstory and she is not stupidly overpowered (only has a yo-yo and Lucky Charm as Ladybug), I think she wouldn't.

About a "Misfit-Sue"... I'm so sorry if I take Danny Fenton as an example for this. Even though I like Danny (please don't mad because it doesn't mean I hate him, I like him), however, I think...he would go to that category. I have a conflict about this. Danny is too overpowered (yeah, he has many powers). However, sure I think he wouldn't go to "Magnet-Sue" because some of the girls (like Paulina and Valerie) mean to him (only Sam who nice to him). But, make sure Danny wouldn't go to Misfit-Sue or Magnet Sue category since he is very relatable characters (yeah, he kinda attractive).

About a "Chosen Sue", I hate how people always complain about Randy Cunningham for randomly chosen. Please, I think Randy wouldn't go to that category, Non chosen-sue have a reasons why they are chosen. Randy chosen because in the episode "When Howie Met Randy", he used The 2005 Ninja's sword which causing The Stranger/Creep (a man with the red hair and a hat) choose him). - visitor

Good points - TwilightKitsune

When I try to make my original characters (and all of them are non-fandom), for the appearance, I google color schemes or color palettes. This way, I don't have my eyes bleeding in many full saturated complimentary colors. I usually go for pastel themes, but I can go for other themes (such as dusk-like themes). Usually, for the species of the character I'm making, I go for a mythological creature for their species (a common example in my ocs would be the djinn, a creature in Arabic mythology).
While writing the character, I never wanted them to be perfect (of course no one is perfect).

There is another Sue type called Anti-Sues. They are the literal opposite of mary sues. Simply inverting the common sue traits doesn't automatically make them a believable character - tenquro

I know what you mean. The one character everyone loves to hate, eg Diamond Tiara or Angelica Pickles - TwilightKitsune

What about the types of Sues that get popular for no apparent reason? - Ultron123

Misfit-sue - TwilightKitsune

Ah, okay. - Ultron123

I'm like the perfect mary sue! :P - visitor

True I must say - TwilightKitsune

Perfect. Just...perfect. I LOVE THIS EPISODE! - Sunwhisker

Thanks ♡♡♡ - TwilightKitsune

I understand. I believe my oc is like a Mage! -Sue or something... - Lucy1402

If you want to avoid one, try giving them flaws, have them struggle, give them fears, and have them develop throughout the story.

Example 1:
Before:
While Jane is intelligent and energetic, she also is touchy, impatient, and gullible. She also is terrified of the dark and of clowns.

Example 2:
After
Jane has a good sense of humor, and she is intelligent, honest, and energetic. However, she is an intolerant, impatient, stubborn, selfish, nosy, pessimistic perfectionist who is terrified of clowns, the dark, spiders, cats, and water.

Must you have an unusual appearance, at least tone the colors down. - IcetailofWishClan
