Reasons Iron Maiden is the Best Metal Band

Now you may think bands such as Metallica and Slipknot are fun to listen to because of their popularity, and Black Sabbath and Judas Priest because of their influence, but you know what band is better than all four of those? Iron Maiden. Here is a list of reasons why Iron Maiden is better than Metallica, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, and all the other metal bands you know of today.

The Top Ten

1 Their music changed through the years and had lots of variety

Slayer had a good 10 year run of Thrash albums, and then a little more variety in the later days, but they started making mediocre music, and all their songs sounded the same. Black Sabbath never got as good as Iron Maiden, and their new music sounds exactly like their old music. Iron Maiden however evolved their music from the Paul Dianno years to the Book of Souls. The albums, Iron Maiden, The Number of the Beast, Powerslave, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Fear of the Dark, Virtual XI, Dance of Death, The Final Frontier, and The Book of Souls all have their unique sound. - ElectricCorpseSlayer

2 They always made good music

Iron Maiden... need to say more? because the word "iron Maiden" is self explanatory- they are legends, yes they are Iron Maiden - Ananya

Iron Maiden is the best metal band.Case Closed.I am really amused by their musical skills. - zxm

What am I doing?!?! Expect this to be a drunk message since I'm writing this at 5 a.m. There is no other users on here from the United States (there all probably asleep, I blame my stepdad for being extremely loud and turning all the lights on). Ugh.

Anyways, that was completely disregarding Iron Maiden, oops. I'm too tired to cooperate... Or write. But yeah, they sound so beautiful and they are good and perfect and I really need to sleep. - Flowersocks2137

3 They influenced a variety of different metal bands

4 They didn't define a genre

Iron Maiden is pretty much their own genre of metal. No band I've heard of has sounded anything like Iron Maiden. Judas Priest is the closest I can think of, and even they sound completely different than Iron Maiden. It's the unique sound, and style of music, that makes a band good. Nobody wants to listen to Motley Crue, because Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, and many other bands sound exactly the same. - ElectricCorpseSlayer

Heavy rock with melody. This is a great list. A list I can get behind - Johnnyt800

5 Bruce Dickinson is the greatest metal vocalist of all time

I wouldn't say he is a heavy metal vocalist. He seems to have a bit more depth and range than that of a typical metal vocalist. Bruce is the man. Especially on tracks such as Seventh Son, Caught Somewhere in Time, and Hallowed Be Thy Name you can hear more dynamics in his voice than most any singer - Johnnyt800

Actually, no. Dio, Halford, and Diamond are better than him. He is talented though. - Alpha101

6 They wrote many epics and went progressive

Just because something is progressive, that doesn't mean it's good.

7 They wrote the best lyrics

They're songs, which were inspired by literary works (To Tame A Land, Rime of the Ancient Mariner) and historical events (Alexander the Great, Powerslave), have the best lyrics heavy metal has ever seen. The Lyrics of Dance of Death are good enough to be written into a book. If rock wasn't invented, the members of Iron Maiden would most likely be famous poets or authors to this day. - ElectricCorpseSlayer

Eh... I don't know much about metal, but saying that they have the "best lyrics" is both subjective and a stretch. - SwagFlicks

You're right about it being subjective. But they have written masterful lyrics in recent albums. Most people have only heard their earlier stuff therefore don't think much of their lyrics. - IronSabbathPriest

8 Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers have all played some of the greatest metal solos in history

9 They stayed true to their roots and didn't sell out like Metallica
10 Iron Maiden Has Some of Metal's Best Live Shows

The Contenders

11 Steve Harris is the greatest songwriter of all time

Actually I am not totally agree he is the greatest songwriter. Singers like Bob Dylan,Neil Young,John Lennon are also good. But yes Steve is probably one of the greatest songwriters and possibly best metal songwriter - zxm

"The greatest songwriter of all time? " This is what comes of tunnel vision; of being so obsessively focused on one, repetitous, monotonous sound that you actually imagine differentiation, and even greatness, in the mediocre sameness that is metal.

Come on, man. Even though I don't enjoy metal, it doesn't deserve this harsh of words. Now if used on country, it would make at least some sense. - SwagFlicks

12 Nicko McBrain is a really good drummer

As well as underrated - zxm

13 Bruce Dickinson is one of the greatest metal vocalists of all time
