Top 10 Reasons to Learn Astronomy

The Top Ten
1 There are many interesting things in our universe that we don't know

Astronomical observations are more than simply documenting the constellations and the way they move. Our critical thinking has deepened our understanding not only of our place in the universe and the way the Earth behaves, but about the fundamental interactions of physics which govern our observations, in a stationary frame on Earth, or a frame in which light speed appears to be exceeded. We've learned from astronomy how we came to be, and it only has further implications in cosmology, wave mechanics, thermodynamics and so much else. Astronomy is a gateway to knowledge, so why turn down such an amazing opportunity to explore the beautiful cosmos?

Still it's the most terrifying thing to ever exist

2 It's Important to learn about the universe
3 In order to help keep future asteroids from crashing in to earth

An Asteroid is coming today on December 24, 2015. Luckily it's going to pass the earth.

4 To learn what goes on outside of the solar system
5 To learn what goes on outside of the Milky Way

Apparently, the light pollution in California is so bad, that on a clear night when the electricity went out, people got worried about the "strange clouds" in the sky.

We have a hefty amount to learn about the Milky Way alone!

6 To try to discover what is unknown about this universe

There's so much more out there, and humanity has been looking at the stars since there were humans. If I had to choose a science to go into, I'd easily pick astronomy. I'll have to brush up on math, however...

Additionally, the biggest and scariest comfort in the world is looking up at the sky and realizing how utterly small you are. It always puts me in perspective.

7 You can be less ignorant
8 To learn more about what caused the big bang
9 So we can find other civilizations on other planets
10 To learn about other galaxies

There more galaxies in the universe that we don't know.
