Reasons The Metal and Pop War Should Stop

A common war that I see a lot on the internet is metalheads vs. Pop fans. Personally, I think this and all of the other internet wars are very unecessary and here are the reasons why.

The Top Ten

1 Music is subjective

Actually, music is objective.
Music taste, on the other hand, is subjective.

If someone likes a certain type of music that you don’t whether it’d be pop, metal, or even something else like country, rap, folk or blues, you don’t have to agree with them, but just respect the fact that not everyone is going to like the same things you like. - 3DG20

2 No genre is perfect

Both metal and pop vary a lot, so you may be able to find at least one artist you like, and one that you don’t like as much. Personally, I think some good bands in metal are Metallica, Motörhead etc. And some good artists in pop for me are The Beatles, Michael Jackson, or even some more modern ones like Adele, but there are also some that I don’t like in both genres. In metal, I don’t like Cannibal Corpse, nor would I recommend them to any non-metal fan because bands like that are why terrible stereotypes exist, and in pop, I don’t like Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift or Fifth Harmony, but keep in mind that this is all based on my personal opinion. I’m not saying any of these are bad, but they’re just not my cup of... I don’t know. I would say tea, but I don’t even drink tea. - 3DG20

3 Both take talent to make

Metal is probably the most complicated music genre instrumentally, so yes, it does take talent to do, and just because some pop singers take the easy way doesn’t mean all pop singers are like that. If you believe otherwise, take a look at Adele, Demi Lovato or Ed Sheeran. They may not be the best examples, but they’re a few out of the many who can sing without autotune, and there’s nothing wrong with using a little bit of autotune in the studio. Some metal singers use it as well. There’s a big difference between that and pretty much relying on it. - 3DG20

4 Not everyone is going to like the same things you like

Like I said, music is subjective, and nothing can impress everybody. You’ve just gotta accept the fact that there are people who do like it. - 3DG20

5 Both genres are being judged too much based on a few bad songs

Not every pop song is like “Gucci Gang” or “Stupid Hoe”, and not every metal song is like “Hammer Smashed Face” or “I C** Blood”. If you look past that, you’ll find a ton of good songs from both genres. - 3DG20

6 There are good and bad fans in both genres

Both genres have fans who are welcoming to people who prefer another genre, but both genres also have some people that like to pick fights about how their music is better, so neither fanbases are good, - 3DG20

7 It’s extremely hypocritical to complain when someone says something bad about a genre you like, then do the same thing to a genre they like

This one is pretty self-explanatory... - 3DG20

8 One of your favourite artists may have influences from the other genre

There are a lot of pop artists who like metal such as Avril Lavigne, Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga etc. - 3DG20

9 The music someone likes has nothing to do with who they are as people

Just because someone like pop doesn’t make them close-minded or stupid, and just because someone likes metal doesn’t make them a devil worshipper. The only close-minded people here are whoever came up with such stupid stereotypes, because I know many smart pop fans and I have not met a single metalhead who is actually a satanist. - 3DG20

10 It’s childish

It shows how we can’t have an opinion anymore on the internet... - 3DG20
