Top Ten Reasons People Hate Dream Theater

Self explanatory. If you have any more reasons, please add them. I am a major fan of this band, by the way.

The Top Ten

1 People Call Them Pretentious

This isn't just exclusive to Dream Theater, it's usually the first thing that people bash Prog for in general. It never really made sense to me because I always thought that artists like Primus, Mr. Bungle, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Buckethead, Coheed And Cambria, Rush, hell, even Tool always came off as pretty self-aware to me. - The_Crimson_King

They're far from pretentious.

They really aren’t though - NightmareCinema

2 Song Lengths

With the very short attention spans of Millennials now, it's no wonder prog in general is shunned.

Oi people with dyspraxia have short attention spans.
You are really a jerk to millennials.

That’s dumb, songs only feel long to me when they’re repetitive - NightmareCinema

3 James LaBrie's Vocals

He's the best tranny vocalist out there.

No. Just no - NightmareCinema

4 They're Not the Heaviest Band

Well they are still pretty heavy. Prog metal is more instrumental than singing, and most people say metal bands are most known for the vocals. No shock prog metal isn't big among eve prog fans.

That doesn’t matter - NightmareCinema

5 Mike Portnoy's Departure

I miss Portnoy too but give it a rest people...Jesus... - NightmareCinema

Mangini is good, but Portnoy definitely is better. I like Mangini though.

People still go on about this to this day. - IronSabbathPriest

6 The Charlie Dominici Era

That was one album - NightmareCinema

7 Kevin Moore's Departure

To be fair he wrote some of their best lyrics. - IronSabbathPriest

8 Their Album "The Astonishing"

People don't like this album. It's pretty cheesey and not that progressive. But I like the tune. - IronSabbathPriest

The main issue I have is the sheer length of it. I'm not one to say no to long songs, but an album that goes for over 2 and a half hours crosses the line slightly. The music itself isn't too bad though - kempokid

9 The Fact That "The Looking Glass" Sounds Like Rush's Limelight

Both brilliant songs. I've seen a few people call them out for this but it's not a big deal as Rush are massive anyway, and DT are fans of them. - IronSabbathPriest

10 The Fact That They Overshadow Other Progressive Acts

Like who?

Dream Theater is already overshadowed by other rock bands, so whatever prog bands they shadow weren't big to start with.

The Contenders

11 Their Songs All Have the Same General Tone.
12 They're Overly Progressive
13 Their Music is More Cliche Now
