Top Ten Reasons Why 2016 Was a Terrible Year for Music

The Top Ten
1 Many great singers like David Bowie and Prince died

We lost Buddy Holly, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Karen Carpenter, Freddie Mercury, Kurt Cobain, Aaliyah, Tupac, George Harrison, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, David Bowie, George Michael, and Prince. All these legends are dying and now music is dying. Now, we’re stuck with Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and many other crap musicians! What is happening to the world! Music is just getting closer to extinction!

We lost too many icons this year, but particularly in music. Besides Bowie & Prince passing away, we also lost Maurice White, Glenn Frey, Paul Kantner, Keith Emerson, Billy Paul, Nick Menza among many, many others. So not only is 2016 a year with terrible music by terrible musicians, it's taking all the good musicians away from us.

First we lost Elvis Presley then John Lennon, then Kurt Cobain, then George Harrison, then Aaliyah, then Michael Jackson, then Amy Winehouse, then Whitney Houston, then David Bowie, then Prince, then George Michael. We're losing all of our legends.

First we lost Aaliyah then Michael Jackson then Amy Winehouse then Whitney Houston then Prince and David Bowie!?

2 Most of the songs sound the same
3 The songs this year sound boring and bland

Don't Let Me Down, Ride, Too Good, Irresistible, Colors, Pity Party, Wild Things, anything Pan! c, Cut It, all boring and bland

We need a new genre to be good.

4 No upbeat songs

Excuse me? No upbeat songs? Are you serious?
Here's another bland and ludicrous statement which goes by the assumption that all music is poppy chart drivel.
So, some of the most beautiful tracks like Sansa, Lupulus and Beneath With Me, giving you a fully upbeat vibe and the sheer joy from the melody, making many people who have heard them reflect on what's positive in their lives, don't count at all?

5 Terrible singers like Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor, and Drake top the charts

Probably one of the worst years for music simply because most of the chart music wasn't very good or very bad but because it was boring and dull. Music has been on a 4/10 level throughout the year. At least previous years had something I could get angry at or something I loved. However, in the pop charts nothing like that happened. Even worse, a Drake song topped the charts for 15 weeks in the UK based on streaming alone. Really. It overtook Bohemian Rhapsody's record at number one because people couldn't stop streaming it. A utter joke.

I'd say 2016 was both amazing and horrid at the same time. Sure we had Drake and loads of Drake ripoffs but we also had twenty one pilots and Chainsmokers

Justin Bieber didn't top the charts. Meghan Trainor is overall bad but had some good songs. Drake is actually OK. If you think this stuff is bad, try 50's music (even worse).

And there we go again, Let us be happy Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift did not top the charts.

6 The song "Sweatshirt" by Jacob Sartorious is awful

I agree that Sweatshirt is by far the worst song ever but that doesn't make 2016 the worst. The worst are 2014 and 2015.

Not liking one song is not a reason to call the entire year bad.

Maybe this year will get better. One can only dream.

Don't think this should be called music.

7 Too much house, trap, and rap music

Half of the trap this year was alright. Same goes for rap. House was overall good if Calvin Harris was ingored

"Too much"? It's only too much if you choose to listen to too much of it

Not all house music is bad though. But I'm a sucker for melodic house so...

8 Many comebacks of artists this year were disappointing

Adele's music offerings this year have been below her best, Alicia Keyes sold out to do generic dance music, AIM by MIA was disappointing and contained a guest verse from a former One Direction member & Radiohead have become everything their critics always claimed they were with their lacklustre LP A Moon Shaped Pool. The only established artists not to embarrass themselves were Green Day, Metallica & The Stone Roses of all bands, and even then they have done far better work previously.

The only bad cmeback from this year were onerepublic and katy perry and the former managed to reddem themselves with the next singles. I think now

Tinchy Stryder made a terrible comeback. He was a sick artist who stopped being relevant after 2010.

Lady Gaga's comeback was okay, but I found it a little underwhelming for some reason.

9 DJ Snake made worse songs

When has this guy ever made good songs?

10 The Chainsmokers The Chainsmokers are an American DJ and production duo consisting of Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart. The EDM-pop duo achieved a breakthrough with their 2014 song "#Selfie", which was a top twenty single in several countries.
The Contenders
11 Most of 2016 is Annoying
12 Barely any hit singles

More songs hit the top ten, the number spot this year than 2015 and even 2014

Then what about the songs that hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100?

Aren't there hit singles every year though?

13 There are barely any new good singers

Melanie Martinez the one I stand for but there was barely no good singers. Jacob, please stop!

Alessia was last year. THis is the only good point from the list, except that Kent Jones might have talent.

Music is way to broad to say that there aren't any "new good singers".

14 Not much good pop

The only ones I do enjoy from this year are Cheap Thrills, Into You, This is what you came for, Send my Love, Side to Side, Sit Still look Pretty, Perfect Illusion, Just Like Fire and Timmy Turner.

15 Too many forgettable songs
16 My Chemical Romance didn't get back together

Face the reality people. My Chemical Romance are not getting back together. Deal with it.

17 The only people left that could sing are Adele and Beyoncé.

Or maybe you're just not doing a very good job looking? Because there are still tons of artists that can sing.

Well, you are half right. Adele can sing.

18 Too upbeat
19 Twenty One Pilots is overrated
20 Stressed Out was overplayed

Even if it was, I would rather have that than other overplayed efforts like 7 Years & I Took A Pill In Ibiza. Twenty One Pilots were one of the few mainstream bands I could stomach this year.

It wasn't too overplayed compared to some songs. It was overplayed in '15, not '16

Thank god I barely listen to radio. because I still really like this song

21 No love for ELO

It's all you people's fault for not supporting "Alone In The Universe"

22 Songs with annoying noises in them
