Top 10 Reasons Why Steven Universe Is the Worst Show On CN

The Top Ten
1 Only Girls Like It

I'm a girl, but honestly, the show feels Anvilivious (got that from Tvtropes) and j.t, "Made by women, for everyone! "

Cartoon Network had many shows with female characters. They had the Power Puff Girls (original is the best though), Winx Club, and Adventure Time. Obviously I cannpt remember anymore. I don't watch the channel nowadays.

I don't mind any character. If it's good, who cares? But SU uses one trait, and then bases the character over that.

All in all, this show is just feminist rhetoric. I don't mind, as it's better to make your show than to ban others', and I will express my opinion, but I want to see how they feel when this inappropriate show is banned.

Ok so Cartoon Network FINALLY makes a show that has main characters that are female, and suddenly, that's an offending move towards makes?!? Seriously?!? You can't do anything without offending someone somehow. Quit making something out of nothing. I know plenty of boys who like the show. If you want to complain about something, do it about something that actually deserves complaining, like TTG and other crappy spin-offs and quit trying to bring down good shows.

2 It's Made by and for SJWS

Fat this, lesbian that, "the gems have no gender but they look like girls" aka non-binary bull. It's as if Tumblr turned into a haram anime that turned into a cartoon and some dumbass threw it on T.V. without even looking at it.

The only good part is that the PC asses actually made something and designed it instead of demanding it be changed. But I hope someone has a problem with it and complains to the creator just to see how it feels to have your work demonized for having it the way you want it.

Exactly. The whole "it's not gay because they don't have genders" is ridiculous. Take Pearl for example. Yeah, she's a gemstone. She also looks like a girl, dresses like a girl, sounds like a girl, has a girly name, and goes by female pronouns. And actually, I've seen arguments (not SU related) that gender isn't the same as sex. Okay, if that were the case, it's STILL gay. Stop trying to act like it isn't.

3 Rose Kind of Replaced God

Rose is god, White Diamond is the devil, Steven is Jesus, and Garnet, Ameythst, and Pearl are angels.

Wait so does that mean The Diamond replaced Satan?

God himself had Jesus by falling in love with Mary? God is a gem from another planet? God can be destroyed? There r others with unique powers that matches god out there? Someone ruled over god? what?

How?! In what way is rose God?!

4 It Ripped Off Teen Titans Go!

Whoever wrote this needs to be banished to a dark oblivion.

The superior show that is Steven Universe is nothing like that pile of crap you call Teen Titans Go.

Why would Steven Universe rip off a show with not even a 5.0/10 star rating?
Comparing this show to that insult is disgusting.

They're polar opposites. How could they rip each other off?

No it didn't. It's way better.

5 It's Overrated

Look, it could be a great show, and while I admit I haven't seen much, it's too late for me to even try getting into it. Either online or even in real life, the show is /everywhere/. I can't even get in a week of school without hearing about "gemlings" or stuff about the character Peridot. Sure, it might have cool concepts, but the spoilers were left and right and the fandom's frankly revolting these days. If it wasn't so overhyped and overrated, I would of considered watching it. While Adventure Time and other shows have gotten high attention for sure, Steven Universe's has grown to a ridiculous level.

Trigger Warning! Easily Pissed off Liberals Avoid!

I do not like this show, sure it is overrated, but the inclusion of LGBT characters in a children's show is inexcusable. These children are not yet old enough to understand natural (Straight) Sexuality, so why shove LGBT sexuality down their throats?

Just to clarify, I have no problems with the plot. Honestly it is kind of interesting, but not my cup of tea.

Steven seems like an interesting character, but would get his ass kicked in a standoff with Krillin!
The characters rely to much on the rare "Deua ex Machina" moments when Steven obtains a new power and uses it to "save the day".

I would compare this to "Super Saiyan from Dragon Ball Z, it strays cool but then becomes so common it has no meaning.

I personally don't have a problem with the show where I come from. A few people who watch it say that its stupid and pointless, and I disagree, but I haven't encountered anyone who is totally ubsessed with it, other than me :P. But I feel as though it's getting what it deserves, if what y'all say is true: that people are constantly talking about it. It really is a great show and people should see the beauty in it. I feel like it has a high amount of hate as well. In google, I searched for "reasons Steven Universe is great," and sources for why it's terrible showed up.

People think, "Oh hey, look! There's a new show about this kid with undiscovered poweres! " Only to find out, that he sucks at fighting, and, the episodes never really follow each other, they just kind of float out there. Plus, after a major event happened that had affected the enviorment, they never really picked up where the damage was put down, just, sweep it under the rug, no one will notice. Finally, to my last point, Steven's background is never really explained in-depth enough for the veiwers to really notice anything, even if they did, they wouldn't notice a major difference.

6 The Fan Base is Annoying

I love this show so much but people can't handle other people's opinions. Someone will say something like, "I don't ship Lapidot" and all Lapidot shippers will yell at them. One girl drew fan art and made Rose Quartz too skinny (her fan art is actually really amazing! ) and fans had to be rude to her and she almost killed her self from all of the pressure (she's okay now). I find this absolutely ridiculous that people feel like they have to be so rude. I personally don't like most of the reasons on this list and I don't agree with Steven Universe being the worst show on CN. I would recommend it to anyone but if it's not your cup of tea then that's alright but people need to respect other's opinions including su fans and non-su fans. Let's just get along and not spread hate. Thank you all!

I'm an avid and total fan of Steven Universe, but I gotta agree with this. This girl on Tumblr made Steven Universe drawings of characters that looked nothing like how they did in the show. I see why they were mad, she stripped the characters appearances of what they really were, what they symbolized: that all shapes and sizes are beautiful. But at the same time, the fandom...I mean good lord, the hate had no end.

Honestly if you look at other comments for other reasons, you'll see that like half the comments are enraged SU fans. Not to mention, the fanart incident where they bullied that one girl who drew Rose a bit skinnier and many, MANY SU fans went to bully her until she attempted suicide. I think this ties into the overrated reason on the list at #1, because they're so annoying, it drives me away from the show.

Yeah they can be evil, but there are fans like that for everything. I personally DO get pretty upset when people insult Steven Universe, but saying that they don't like it is totally okay. But I HATE it when people make those lists about why it should be cancelled. And the hate on fan art has to stop.

7 Boring and Unfunny

They show all these weapons in the theme song, but instead we get to see Steven whining about why he can't get a certain type of donut.

Wasn't there another thing on the list that said it was unfunny? So this is basically the same thing?

Umm, okay, please actually provide examples here.

8 It Insults Us Men

As a woman I say this is not very nice for my gender as well, both men and woman! All the men on the show are losers and all the woman are either asexual or lesbian (Modern Family gay is one thing but Steven Universe is too far and for being a kids show I don't like it)

1. Having strong female characters =/= an insult to men.
2. Many of the things that influenced SU were created by men, such as Dr. Slump and The Simpsons.
3. Rebecca Sugar, the creator of Steven Universe, worked on Adventure Time, a show with 2 males as the protaginists.

How does it insult you. Does seeing a group of badass women give you shivers? Most of the cartoons these days feature male characters. It's only fair to see women in a show.

Ummm...but...hm... WHAT! How does this make any sense, it is in no way insulting men. When I see this list, I just think the person who made it is a petty child who hasn't seen it. Watch the show and you will think differently.

9 Steven is Fat

Steven is adorable just the way he is. And it isn't his fault. His dad isn't the skinniest and neither is his mom. As a matter of fact, she's huge, and beautiful. Yeah he makes mistakes sometimes, but he learns from them. The gems think of him as Rose. They know that one day he'll master his gem and be outstanding inside AND out. If you didn't listen to your parents, they'll be mad and punish you, but they'll still love you no matter what.

I bet this is coming from a person who says bullying is wrong, Hypocrite. Anti bullies say that it doesn't matter on the outside, and then we have THIS. People who support this as a reason to hate a show is just mean.

And Anon's comment of the first episode, Steven wasn't showing off his "fat body", he was upset because a company he liked stopped making cookie cats. Then, Lars said "If you love Ice-cream so much, why don't you make some with your MAGIC BELLY BUTTON *laughs*" then Steven replied "That's not how it works, Lars! … Right? " then touching his stomach. It was a treat he liked, not food in general. The gems bought some for him after hearing they weren't making them anymore, so they got all of them. While Steven was eating one, his gem glows. Later that day, the mother of the monsters that attacked them earlier was found at the top of the gems's house. Steven brought the treats with him to try and help. However, it didn't work.
So, he kept eating.

I don't care if he is fat, but he is honestly annoying. He doesn't listen and they love him anyway, he gets in trouble and they love him anyway. And his dad is so stupid, he never watches him. Not to mention Steven only worries about food and stupid things. The episodes have no emotional or moral (of the story) values to them. I think he could be much better if he weren't so annoying. All the gems do is rescue Steven all the time.

This is beyond mean, narrow minded, & toxic I've seem for people to hate something/someone for! I am NOT saying that it's good to be fat! Not everyone makes the best life choices but guess what? That doesn't make them bad or deserving of hatrid! Steven is a nice guy who is considerate, helpful, cheerful, & helps saves the world! He even sacrifices himself so his friends won't suffer! But it doesn't matter because he's fat? That is so bs! And to that one d-bag who think it's ok to hate/bully people because of bad statistics & ugliness, do you know that people on drugs(who are usally also extremely ugly) are one of the highest people to commit domestic violence or kill due to driving under the influence? I think killing or attacking people for little to no reason is a lot worse than making our debt worse. But I think you people have a problem hating/thinking it's ok to attack people because they are ugly. Shows how shallow & dumb you are! I'm not saying you have to be attracted or marry ...more

10 Malachite Was Disappointing

I really expected Malachite to get half of a season. I like Jasper, hate lapis, so the fact Jasper got part of the season dedicated to her made me happy, but really, they couldn't have made Malachite's existence as a villain instead of a "I'm here. Just sitting underwater." longer? She had ONE EPISODE where she was a threat. Sigh

That I can agree on, and have reasons explaining why. And how she defuses is so silly and redundant (I'll explain more of that later)

The Contenders
11 Opal is a Lesbian Fusion

Homophobe alert! Homophobe alert!

Honestly Opel only happens when Amethyst and Pearl absolutely have to fuse

12 The Gems are Weird Looking

To me, it's not that they are weird looking. I just personally don't like the designs. Have you see some fanmade designs? They have more intriguing concepts and good design shillouette in my opinion. I'm so sorry but visual aspect is also a point that makes a show good. Some people like story more than visual aspects but some others like visual aspects more, and who are you to say that because you like story aspects more than visual, you are somehow better than other people?

The character design in the show is astounding, the show was even nominated for an award regarding this. I must respectively disagree on this, simply because "weird looking" is no way to describe (in my personal opinion) the gem designs.

Everyone in this show other than Steven is really ugly. I don't get why people like the design of everyone. I get that they aren't supposed to look human, but still, can you make them at least tolerable to look at?

Lips are not shaped like that. Ever. Diversity is unimportant. Design is. It's a mishmash of pandering and bad art and I can't bear to look at it for long periods of time.

13 It's Not Exciting

It's been four years and this is the central plot:
"The diamonds are mad at Steven, but not actively pursuing him."
This really sums up everything that's wrong with the story: it's not progressing. It's going nowhere. The current story-lines are boring. I don't care about the trivial stuff the show stuffs its fillers with. I want to know what happened during the gem war. But it's been four years and all we got is:
"She might have done it. Who knows? " Yeah, thanks. That's exactly as much as we knew during season 1. We learned NOTHING. Get your plot on the road.

The show goes nowhere. The characters haven't progressed since the start of the show. The action tends to be boring since it rarely evolve from brute strength battles.

The show's designed to get you invested in it's characters and how they evolve. It's a drama mostly. I can see how that's not everyone's cup of tea.

"Okay, whoever wrote this hasn't seen the new episodes."
This just really implies that the half first of this show was objectively unexciting.

14 Long Hiatuses

Cartoon Network is the one in charge of the shows schedule, so you can't really blame the show itself, but the amount of hiatuses this show has gone on is ridiculous. No one wants to wait three months for an episode about Ronaldo role-playing as a Crystal Gem.

For the animation guy, every single other show on cn ever doesn't have a crappy schedule like steven universe. Its not a reliable show and I don't find any qualities about it that I care about.

Altought I hate the hiatus I don't think that makes it the worst show on CN, and all th other points in the tops are included in other shows and they're all good, also, every show has an horrible fanbase.

The hiatus gets more worse in the SU subreddit. Every day a post made, it goes like this, "Give it up to day XXX" with a weird poorly drawn pearl called cursed pearl. The user who spams this hasn't been banned yet. The subreddit is unbearable sometimes during hiatus.

15 Steven's Voice is More Annoying Than a Crying Baby.

This is the BIGGEST reason. I absolutely hate Steven as a whole. He acts like a loser crying for his gem mommies to come help him. In real life I feel like Steven would be the kind of person who cries when they don't get what they want and can't stick up for themselves not even in the slightest. His voice is so high pitched it sounds like Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks with a helium balloon. I don't think Steven should be compared to a crying baby, it is an insult to babies worldwide. Babies cry because they have no other way of communicating that they need help and are physically incapable of helping themselves, while Steven can do ANYTHING (with his supernatural powers) and he STILL acts like a toddler. This SJW show should be cancelled.

Actually, Steven has a deeper voice now since he's matured. And he has a really nice singing voice.

I'm pretty sure the person who made this didn't watch past the first two episodes. Zach Callison's voice is completely different now.

I liked his old voice. It suited him well until it changed. He changed a little too soon if you ask me.

16 The Songs are Boring

Okay, coming from a person who hates SU more than anything, some of the songs (like It's Over, isn't it?, Stronger than You, Distant Shore, Do it for him/her, and all the songs in the movie except The Tale of Steven) are actually pretty good. BUT some of the songs are really BAD. Like Cookie Cat (I hate that song).

The songs come from the heart. These days, all the songs are about drugs and sex, and totally meaningless. In one episode of "Teen Titans Go," they were singing about burgers and burritos. And not to mention their song about different pies? I LOVE the songs. They provide emotion to the show and really set the mood. And "Stronger Than You," got SO many awards!

Personally, I think that these songs are well written, and I love them. But we all can have our opinions, but if I were to find a song I didn't like in this show, I still wouldn't find it boring, as they all have meaning we can relate to.

Honestly, the songs aren't great, the only one that I thought was nicely done was "It's over isn't it? " The music Greg makes is kinda crap. I feel that the show really sucks at making rock (OH THE IRONY) and blues they should just stay away from it.

17 Two Characters are Gay

Ok seriously? I cannot believe that I have to type this comment. Its retarded that no one really pays attention to rebecca sugar explaining and answering questions about the show. The gems DO NOT have genders. Rebecca sugar stated that the gems do take on female appearances but don't in fact have genders. They do have gender specific pronouns but do not actually have a gender. They are sentient morphing rocks. So they don't actually have lesbian/gay relationships. Its not possible for them to have sex since they don't have genitals. They literally use giant machines that shoot specialized minerals into the ground to mass produce the gem race. So they don't have gay relationships. They are only illusions projected by their gem. Their bodies are merely holgrams with mass. Rocks don't have genders. So they are not gay.

Okay true, the gems are gender less. But the children don't know that, they are gonna think the gems are females, just saying that their gender less does not change the fact at all that this has a gay agenda and I honestly think kids should not be watching this. Other than that, I love this show and it does empower women but the homosexuality is not to my liking. Honestly, the LGBTQ community needs to stop enforcing their ideas to people. If I don't like homosexuals that doesn't make me a homophobe, it just shows me how religious/spiritual I am.

Okay, what?

The person below me has commented that Ruby and Sapphire "Look like little kids" and are "too young for that stuff". Gay teens and younger kids exist. Hell, I'm one. Second, how does this make Rebecca look like a "feminazi"? She's not saying all men are bad and disgusting? Literally all she did was put a lesbian couple in her show and have the other characters accept them. How is that bad?

Dear everyone in the comments saying "oooh gays are bad, God hates gays, this is terrible.": Look, it's 2016. Move on. Homosexuality is found in over 200 species. Homophobia is found in only one. Get over yourselves.

18 It's Not Really Funny

Please Read This: Ok guys... I am a Big, Big Troll. That's because that this list was created for SU haters but there isn't much as I thought. You know this user JustinBIEBERLOVER? She is a Troll like me like she never stops loving out most hated person in the world along with Hitler! Well, I didn't meant to say Hitler but he is the Hated people too! I am a JB liker and I am a male! I wanted myself to be The King Of TheTopTens Trolls! There is sometimes a troll that hates something that we like but please. I'm sorry...

The show is meant to be serious. It's not a kids show. It's a family show. The crew has said it many times. There is humor weaved into it in some places, but overall, it has that dark vibe to it. A huge war just broke loose for peets sake! Gems are landing on Earth, trying to kill the gems! A show doesn't have to be 100% comedy to be good.

I totally agree that the jokes aren't funny! The only show on cartoon network that makes me laugh is the amazing world of gumball, since being a 13 year old boy, I can easily understand the jokes. But with steven universe, it's just weird stuff I don't understand.

Shut up you insufferable, half-formed, traitor mega clod! You ruddy muddy clump beneath my gravity connectors! The humor is awesome! But thus show just isn't all about humor. I read this and I couldn't stop laughing. Have you even seen it?

19 Steven is Annoying

He is so so SO annoying. I was depressed when I found out that he's played by the same guy who played Chuck on one of my favorite shows "Just Add Magic".

I wouldn't say he is annoying, but being able to integrate his child's perspective effectively while demonstrating development in character is something that the show has not always done well. One example of this is the writers refusal to give him solid consequences (often enough for them to matter) and allowing him to fail (at some things). Instead they insist on bubble wrapping him a little too much in the later parts of the first season to current. He therefore doesn't have to learn as much as he has a kind of special treatment. They also seem to make him too chatty at times where silence is more fitting and he never gets called out for any of it, even where he spouts ridiculous notions.

Sure, he can be annoying and is also a total dumbass, but he's also brave and compassionate, and is willing to fight to the death to protect humanity. He shows that you don't have to be smart to be a good person, and that's what I enjoy about him.

He's 14 but is still carried around like a baby. He bursts into tears over the littlest things. His voice. He's painfully stupid.

20 The Disturbing Episodes

Someone had to add this! I started to try watching this show but even within the first season beginning episodes, they must have scared away a lot of people. I mainly am talking about Frybo and Cat Fingers, Cat fingers is just nothing relevant to much of the plot, and it's all about Steven wanting to shapeshift into a cat. This goes horribly wrong and he loses control, and he almost DIES basically, his whole body is turning into a blob of cat heads that Steven can't control. Luckily he has a great dad and he saved him with his carwash! Then there is Frybo, the more disturbing one to me. Steven finds a missing shard that pearl needs to find, when looking, he helps his friend instead putting it in a mascot named Frybo. After not too long, Frybo goes crazy and starts grabbing people, holding them still, and shoving handfuls of fries into their mouths almost choking them. Then end up killing him and ripping out the shard but they almost didn't

Although this argument isn't really a reason to dislike the show, I still dislike these episodes. I'm especially talking about Cat Fingers and Frybo which are particularly unsettling.

Oi, I can definitely agree with this one. Lapis with the water leaking from her eyes/mouth/etc. in Chille Tid gave me the creeps. And in Keeping It Together, when Garnet almost broke because of the mini clusters, was pretty unsettling as well.

Wow the people who watch this show are so childish and immature just look at these comments! This show just makes me sick.

21 Too Many Filler Episodes

Ug where can I begin!? First Steven's fingers turn to cats, then Frybo, the episode were Steven visits Onion's house. Honestly I'd rather watch those then the plot filled episodes (Those make me sick). Oh and I forgot about Dog-copter (A dog helicopter?! ). It makes me want to cry that the only CN show made by a woman is the worst show I'd ever seen in my life.

There's so many filler episodes on beginning but it slowly stops on other seasons after Giant Woman. I think its just going to a good way on next episodes.

I didn't get into SU until season two, where stuff actually happened. It's a lot better now, and in season 4, important lessons are disguised as fillers.

22 Everybody is Overpowered

Pssh, please! Buddy, chum, pal in the beginning it may seem that way but as the show progresses you get to see that all the gems know what they are and not capable of. They also have weaknesses as well. To be frank with you this is, ironically, one of the rare shows that are HUMAN. It shows how people can change and have to accept things for how they are and that everyone has their limits and weaknesses. You can't deny that we're all human here we, make mistakes, but we can learn from them and either become stronger or weaker; it's your choice.

I don't think so. Their really OP power is shapeshifting, and the only one who uses that to the fullest is Amathyst, and even that may not be enough against a fully developed soldier. Garnet has used shapeshifting, but at a more basic level which questions how proficient she is at it. Pearl's never shapeshifter at all. We don't know why. Of course there's Lapis Lazuli, but that girl is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than the crystal gems! She may be the only one who's truly OP, but even she'd be vulnerable in an environment without water. *COUGH* like the gem war. *COUGH*

Overpowered? Ha! How much of an idiot can you people be? If you knew half of what this show was about, you'd know that each of the gems are aware of their weaknesses and boundaries. It's what makes them mentally strong. Actually watch the damn show in its entirety before you criticize it.

Do me a favour and take a look at Amethyst's and Steven's recent storylines. And Smoky Quartz for that matter. They might be good fighters, but most of them have a lot of emotional issues.

23 Too Much LGBT Content

I have no issue with lesbians and gays...what u do in the bedroom is your business. But the whole genderless, non binary idea of the gems is definitely propaganda and whoever disagrees with that doesn't pay attention to the news. The whole idea of gender has been transformed into some twisted false idea, and it's on the news practically everyday it's so irritating. They're pushing it on people so hard and Steven Universe I guess just happens to coincidentally change into a show about everything liberal activists stand for? Please. This show was awesome in season 1 and 2, I loved it. But it's so different now it's annoying. It's all about people's wimpy feelings being hurt...a popular argument of SJW's.

I don't understand why people are having this "don't shove it down our throats" mentality like the LGBTQ is a thing your child is and will be surrounded by it. It's better if they get used to is now instead of having them confused when they see two men or women together because you blocked them from reality. This show's targeted audience is young teens and if your an adult watching this you should be over it by now, you don't have to accept it but don't be but hurt by something that doesn't effect you

I don't care what people are. But this is a children's show. Y'all ban videogames for violen ce, but romance and other things are fine in a kids' show? Not putting characters like these doesn't create hate, but shoving these characters in your faces does. Also, the comment below, with "straight white conservative" as an insult needs to quit reading msNPC (See what I did there? ) and needs to actually know his/her boundaries.

This is a kids' show, and putting content like this isn't progressive or liberal, it's indoctrinating.

Oh no, a children's show portrays characters that don't appeal to homophobic hate that has caused many killings and dramatically increased suicide rates from certain groups? What ever shall the high class, hateful, straight white conservative do?! What a tragedy!

24 It Has Bad Design

Pearl looks like Gru from Despecible Me and Spinel looks like Mickey Mouse and all the characters look like they're particpating in an most ugliest competition!

Diversity means nothing. Both Mad Men and City of God are excellent pieces of media, and both are non-diverse in two entirely opposite ways - Mad Men is mainly white, City of God is mainly black or African-Brazilian. You can't just slap some skin colour on a character and call them good, for God's sake.

I like this series, but I agree with this one, the design is simply terrible, it uses that artstyle the shows like Regular Show or Adventure Time got and I simply hate it. Everything looks way too odd and childish and the colors are boring.

You guys don't even know about the Design in this show. The backgrounds are good but the characters designs look awful! Ugly Eye designs, Steven and Amethyst are fat. Every Gem is a female. that's it... I am still going to hate Steven Universe anyways

25 Jenny and Kiki Don't Get Enough Screen Time Because They are Black

UUhm... They don't get that much screen time because they are side characters, and don't have input on the plot. Also, characters like Pee Dee and Ronaldo also don't have much screentime, but nobody notices. Why? Oh, because they are white! (Sarcastic voice). Grow up! There have been episodes full of Jenny and Kiki! So just stop.

What? CONNIE is too. And she gets screen time! Don't even start me on this, you're making up excuses.

I'm pretty sure it's because they are side characters and are not relevant to the plot.

Can someone tell me what Steven & connie's race is?
