Top 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Watch Day Break Illusion

Day Break Illusion, also known as Genei wo Kakeru Taiyou, is not worth your time. If you need a dark magical girl anime.. just stick to Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Just a warning.

The Top Ten

1 It tries too hard to be like Madoka Magica

A lot of animes try to be a deconstruction of the magical girl genre, but some end up copying or are trying to rival Madoka Magica. It's too try hard that it's cringe worthy. - Ruee

2 It's an edgier, watered down version of Madoka Magica

Madoka Magica knew where to stop when it comes to shock value and focuses on the emotional aspects of the show, Daybreak Illusion does not. It basically ends up being dark and edgy all the time. Madoka Magica at least handled being a dark magical girl anime where it didn't become edgy and doesn't focus on shock value. - Ruee

3 The treatment of the 12 year old characters revolves around pedophilia and sexual assault

Yes guys, 12 year olds. The magical girls are 12, and they are treated like what I listed. It's very gross and for example, there is an infamous line by one of the villains that says "I want to mate with you." And you know what that was directed to? TO A 12 YEAR OLD. I don't understand how they got away with what they did with this show. - Ruee

4 Good concept, very poor execution
5 The art style is really bad

It basically tries to be dark moe but also trying to be its own style with bad anatomy. - Ruee

6 Only 2 of the 4 main characters are developed
7 The characters are forgettable

I don't remember much about them after I watched the show. Not even their names until I actually look them up. Yes, even the main characters. - Ruee

8 Characters suffer for the sake of suffering

Madoka Magica made characters suffer but it wasn't a way solely for shock value. There was a lot of psychological aspects involved instead where you can actually feel connected and bad for the characters instead of just making them suffer for no reason. And Madoka Magica obviously is very successful of how it manages its dark themes. For Day Break Illusion, it gets edgy. Very edgy. Too the point you stop caring of what happens because it just randomly happens and isn't foreshadowed where you actually care of what happens. - Ruee

9 There are unanswered questions and plot holes to the point you stop caring about the story
10 Does okay with a Tarot Card theme, but ruined because the show is awful

I've been recently getting into witch craft and have been getting tarot readings every now and then. I was excited for the concept in Daybreak Illusion since I liked it in Cardcaptor Sakura. If I were to pick and choose which one to watch, I'd go with Cardcaptor Sakura. It's lighthearted, but it's a great and beloved Magical Girl anime...unlike this one. - Ruee

The Contenders

11 It's forever known to be the poorly done Madoka Magica clone
12 There are better magical animes worth watching
13 Cardcaptor Sakura is the better magical girl anime that revolves around the tarot card theme
