Recent Updates to TheTopTens

admin As you may have noticed, we have been hard at work over the past couple of weeks making tweaks to the front-end and the back-end of the site. The goals of these tweaks have been to make the site run faster and to improve the comment approval process.

The first major update was a change in how the vote link functioned. Before, when you clicked on the vote link on a list, you would be taken to a page that recorded your vote (even if you didn't see it), and then to the updated list page. Now, as a result of my newly discovered Ajax coding mojo, when you click on the vote link the vote is recorded and the list is updated all without requiring you to reload the page. This should make the voting process much faster.

The second major update is an overhaul of the commenting system on the site. We were spending hours every day weeding through comments and as has been mentioned by a few loyal visitors, this was causing quite a delay between the time a comment was posted and the time it was displayed on the site.

While we receive hundreds of well composed and relevant comments every day, the problem we were running into was that we were also receiving hundreds of comments that were not a good fit for the site for one reason or another. One way we have addressed this is to make it so the comment form does not display until after you have voted on an item. Hopefully this will cut back on the number of negative comments and comments that are submitted for the wrong item.

Another improvement we have made to the comment process is to allow signed in members to skip the approval process when they add comments. As of today, if you have registered with TheTopTens and are logged in when you add a comment, your comment will be added to the site immediately and will be reviewed at a later time.

As we test out these new systems, and almost certainly spend some time fixing bugs, we hope to continue to learn and streamline the site. From there, the plan is to extend these types of changes to the addition of new list items, new lists, blog comments, and possibly blog posts.

We hope these recent updates will Make You Want to Add to TheTopTens and make it easier for you to keep returning to the site. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let us know. Hi there. Thanks a lot for the hard work.

I have an idea for an feature: It would be cool if you could make it possible to mark lists as favourite, so that I can access the over my profile page and can choose to make the available for public or not.
And it would be cool to see that status of my added items. - falloutboy

Hey. I love this site and I have been telling every-one I know about it.

I have an idea for a possible feature: Have a different search button just for finding usernames. You would type in a username and then you could see his/her profile. - anonymous

I would love that. Have been waiting for that for months. - visitor

i'm creating a top tens list: The Things That The Top Tens Did To Improve - ronluna

i have a hard work voting for the site for days, and one day im surprised that group of people are secretly biased in voting for a particular artist
like for instance an item in best male frontman top chaplin surprisingly at the top, x-japan being shockingly above a certain artist in only one day. i should say don't allow to vote those anonymous visitors that will shock you that one day, they have those dominating artists of theirs topping in every lists

i suggest an indicator of no. of votes should be required because of many biased lists - ronluna
