He respectable for many reasons I'm going to list out the main reasons.
1. He is a very influential figure in metal history especially towards Power Metal vocalists
2. He is very nice to his fans
3. He has made so many great albums in many different bands (Dio, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Elf, Heaven & Hell)
4. He has done several things to help those in need, like Hear N Aid a project lead by him and gathered several 80's Hard Rock and Metal musicians for helping those affected by a famine in Africa and the Stand Up and Shout cancer fund a non-profit charitable fund dedicated to support cancer prevention research, raise awareness and educate the public with the focus that early detection and prevention is of vital importance when dealing with this deadly disease that robs families of it's loved ones, and there was a tribute album to Dio after he passed away in which all the funds it made went to the cancer ...more - christangrant

He is a great person, he is a very talented individual and a very influential figure in metal, mainly towards Black Metal which isn't for every one but you have to respect this guy, he made 5 albums all by himself, Two solo albums and the last 3 Bathory albums, he would have made more albums after that but he passed away in 2004 from aheart attack, he was only 38 when he died, it is truly sad that a good musician like him passed away at such a young age... - christangrant
What I respect about him the most is that he tries to be more original. Most extreme bands state that they were influenced by Slayer and Venom and wanted to do extreme metal just like them but Quorthon wasn't influenced by those two bands. His music is original and I love that. - DarkMatter1997
