Sludgy unlistenable music, annoying vocals and cruddy rapping make this one band whose constant praise completely escapes me. - Mrveteran

The first album wasn't that bad, it was actually good. But the rest are just unlistenable and torture. - Mumbizz01

They have a good ranking on best metal bands too...Reason? Illiteracy - Ananya

I think they are a great band yes - musicgreen

They made Smells Like Teen Spirit the most overrated song of all time and they are called the greatest band ever just for that one song - MetalWorldOrder

They are literally called the greatest band ever for just one song - christangrant

That's a fact...And the reason? One song. - Ananya

I think Nirvana should be in the top 3, top 5 at least. - Metal_Treasure

3 Evanescence Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.

I really hate this band, It's so overrated for one song, It's really so annoying - " I love Amy! " " Bring me to life is the best song ever! " - Ananya

I wish Bring me To Life wasn't so overdone. - lavashooter

For literally one song. - NuMetalManiak

4 AC/DC AC/DC are a Australian hard rock band, formed in November 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, who continued as members until Malcolm's illness and departure in 2014 . They were fronted by Bon Scott until his untimely death due to alcohol poisoning in 1979, after which they hired Brian Johnson more.

For example - Highway to Hell has been called one of the greatest riffs of all time. But no one ever noticed All Right Now of Free's. both of these riffs sound very similar. Then why one should always get the praise while other one is totally unnoticed. - zxm

Seriously they are so praised, they are more overrated than Nirvana. - NuMetalManiak

Alright mainstream rock music, but nowhere near as good as many people would claim. - Mrveteran

I so much agree with this. - Metal_Treasure

6 Nickelback Nickelback is a Canadian rock band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta, Canada. The band is composed of guitarist and lead vocalist Chad Kroeger, guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair.

"I'm so special because I like Nickelback, only individuals with own thoughts are able to perform such rebelliousness." - Alkadikce

They get too much hate actually. - Userguy44

Yes, fight me. Nickelback is on here for the amount of praise they are getting lately, just because of the amount of hate you are seeing (which is a lot slimmer than the amount of praise in reality) pisses you off. - NuMetalManiak

They get too much hate to be honest a lot of the hate they get is not deserved.

I'm starting to see Pantera on TheTopTens more often than I am seeing X-Japan, and that was a LONG time ago when X-Japan was literally on the tops of music lists on this site and that was annoying. Seriously, stop making Pantera the next X-Japan. - NuMetalManiak

Bruh just kick lars and you're perfectly rated - ilovesugarray

I like Thrash metal but most Thrash metal bands on this site are overrated.Pretty much any metal band except for Nu Metal bands are overrated on this site.-TheCoolGuy1

10 Creed Creed was an American rock band, formed in 1993 in Tallahassee, Florida. The band's best-known line-up consisted of lead vocalist Scott Stapp, guitarist and vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips.

Sorry, but Scott Stapp sucks as a vocalist. He's the only member of Creed I don't want to listen to over and over again. Alter Bridge was way better anyways as the former Creed members showcased more creativity in their musicianship than they did in Creed. - NuMetalManiak

The Contenders

A case where the overhyping ruins the band. On their own, they're perfectly fine but due to the endless overpraising by both critics and fans, it has become nearly impossible to listen to this band without all the baggage of how you either must love them or don't appreciate real music or something like that. - Mrveteran

It's literally just the same depressing shoegaze melodies. it's alright, but dang it gets boring. - ilovesugarray

One of the most generic metal bands I have ever heard. And poppy as hell. Overpraised for nothing. - Metal_Treasure

I think I finally found a band that you and me disagree with. I actually love Ghost but I consider them to be more Rock. I respect your opinion though. - cjWriter1997

CjWriter1997, I am glad we are on the same page again - I hate the Grammys, too. Especially the Metal Grammys - they have been a disgrace to metal for 30 years. Metal community and metal musicians should withdraw metal category from the Grammys asap. Metal Grammys only give metal a bad name - Ghost song was presented as the best of metal released in 2015 when it's not. I even made a list about it long ago - Top 10 Proofs Metal Grammy Awards Are Untrustworthy and Misleading.

Back to my opinion about Ghost: their Metal Grammy isn't the only sign they are annoyingly overpraised though. - Metal_Treasure

CjWriter1997, I respect your opinion, too. Here are some of the reasons I don't like Ghost:
As you said, they are more like a rock band but they won the 2016 Grammy for Best Metal Performance. For the song Cirice. What is so mindblowing here - the guitar solo, drumming or vocals? Or its complexity and epicness? This song is nowhere near the Best Metal Performance from 2015 albums. Not even sure it's a metal song - the only metal element is the riff, which is... a close variation of the intro to Raining Blood by Slayer.
Next, their song Ritual - one of their most popular songs, also considered one of their best. The metal element is the riff, which is... a ripoff of Symphony Of Destruction by Megadeth.
But Megadeth never got a metal Grammy... I can go on but you got my idea. - Metal_Treasure

The Grammy's never were a trustworthy award show for metal bands anyway. Somehow Dystopia is Metal but Hardwired is not? Never liked the Grammy's. Felt like it was all corporate and made to please the masses. And didn't Crawling by Linkin Park also won Best Metal Performance once? Yeah, not sure about that one. - cjWriter1997

Brothers, muse have playback on stage. they don't actually live perform - ilovesugarray

Musical theater overkill! Which can be a novelty at first, but ultimately irritating to say the least. Is it Rock or a number from a stage production of The Phantom of the Opera?! Every time the singer takes a breath, it sounds as though a surprise nut squeeze from a stranger occurred (and he has the bad habit of constantly taking loud breaths on mic). Nothing wrong with being a queen but even Ethel Merman would be incited to suggest that Matt Bellamy tone it down once in a while.

I agree that they’re overrated, but they’re still very talented. - Userguy44

I don't even know why they are called the greatest hard rock band of all time, that role belongs to AC/DC with Zeppelin not too far behind. Axl may have a large range but he's hardely a great singer. Slash is the most overrated guitarist of all time too, the tone of his guitar in Sweet Child O Mine shouldn't even be a thing, and yet that riff is called one of the greatest? - BrianScott01
