81 Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine is a Funk Metal band formed in Los Angeles, California. The band consists of vocalist Zack de la Rocha, bassist Tim Commerford, guitarist Tom Morello and drummer Brad Wilk.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE at 66? You people are so ignorant and need to WAKE UP!
This band is what every band should be like! All these punk bands now days cry about wanting to commit suicide and stupid stuff like that.. They think the "I'm so messed up" persona is "cool"... That's lame, this band mixes some of the most appealing sounds and lyrics about world issues that will be sure to get you banging your head, and most certainly change your view of the world!

Awesome band music is suppose to inspire you listen to How I Could Just Kill A Man and don't tell me it doesn't just wants to make you pull the trigger - RAGE

When the average first pick up an electric guitar, naturally, they strum the strings in an experimental manner. But, the average RATM fan picks up an electric guitar and flicks the "toggle" switch on and off to create an even COOLER sound.

Rage has influenced many guitarists around the world, including me. Tom Morello is THE guitar player. The fact that they lasted less than 20 years collectively breaks my heart.

:( please reunite.

That's actually true for me when I started to play electric guitar, and he probably inspired me to do so. - Feirceraven

Sum 41 should really win this :) I think they deserve that because they really know how to rock the house, and they have everything a band could need. Besides, they rock live, and they play all kinds of different styles, from pop-punk to Heavy Metal

How can sum41 be at this position, in my opinion there music is awesome! More than that they play different kinds of music from punk to heavy metal. There first album all killer no filler is fabulous!

They are awesome. It's a tad sad that people can't understand that they should be way up there. That is all.

Sum 41 has song for every single mood that exists... they have lyrics that reflect hard times and inspire us to get better (for example: War), they have songs that people struggling through hard times can relate to, ultimately finding comfort in the lyrics Deryck sings because they CAN relate (as in Pieces, Sick of Everyone, Still Waiting, Walking Disaster...), and even have music for the outsiders that were looked down on (Fat Lip, God Save Us All (Death to Pop)). Long story short? Sum 41 deserves top 10, if not number 1. Amazing band.

83 Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons Imagine Dragons is an American pop band from Las Vegas, Nevada. Imagine Dragons' lineup consists of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman.

Although they haven't been on the scene for very long, Imagine Dragons is a truly fantastic band. They have set the bar for future rock bands with their upbeat tempo and excellent blend of alternative and rock music. If you disagree with me, all I have to say is welcome to the new age.

Hello? No one has a brain this is the best band ever my favourite it's amazing

I know they haven't been around for a while only about a year or two but some of they songs are truly amazing if you don't like them then don't listen to them just to make fun of them. But I think if want to insult them, then you should try singing as good as them and putting a record out. Then you can insult them.

"imagine dragons is an american pop band" yes, because the 4 songs that experimented with that genre defines the band.

84 R.E.M. R.E.M. R.E.M. was an American rock band from Athens, Georgia, formed in 1980 by lead singer Michael Stipe, lead guitarist Peter Buck, bassist/backing vocalist Mike Mills, and drummer Bill Berry.

I don't think I have to say something about them... Just listen to them and you'll know why I was so shocked no one thought about them!

THE best band the U.S. has ever produced. You can debate this if you want but it is the carved in stone truth. Listening to their catalogue now, it hasn't dated one bit since it was made and actually sounds better and more timeless than ever. Dozens and dozens of classic songs that still alter the perception of life. Best album? Could be one of 9 different ones - very few bands can come anywhere near that claim and none can match the unbroken line of sublime quality they left. Should be top ten and much more revered than they currently are by all citizens of planet Earth.

WAY too low on this list - released by far the largest amount of classic albums / songs of any American band. Seriously, no other band comes near to the consistent volume of amazing work they produced, one album after another. From Murmur to Reveal is an unbroken chain of greatness with more greatness peppered throughout the rest. Those who love them know!

THIS is cool imagine dragons suck

85 Collective Soul Collective Soul Collective Soul is an American rock band originally from Stockbridge, Georgia. Now based in Atlanta, the group consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett.

This band has the amazing ability to sound both chill and heavy on their songs. For a perfect example listen to their self titled album. It's such a fun record to listen to and has a good mixture of hard rockers and chill layed back songs. If you don't want to listen to the whole thing just listen to these tracks: The World I Know, Smashing Young Man, December, Gel and Bleed.

0% of votes?! Collective Soul is one of the most iconic rock bands of the 90's, and came out with some really good material. Top Ten? Probably not. But they're a heck of a lot better than 146. Don't judge them by Shine, their biggest hit but really not their best song.

Some of the bands in the top 20 are pretty cool, but not having this one there was unbelievable! People, please!

Such an underrated band! Great live band!
At least get the 7even Year Itch (greatest hits) or DOSAGE! Ed has an amazing voice! Been around 20 yrs & rock as hard as ever! -- Heavy, She Said, Run, the World I know, Tell Me Why, Gel, Listen, etc. They had 7 songs hit #1!
You guys need to be homeschooled!

86 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are an American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. In 1976, the band's original lineup was Tom Petty as the lead singer and guitar player, Mike Campbell as the lead guitarist, Ron Blair on bass, Stan Lynch on drums, and Benmont Tench on keyboards.

What an insult. Tom petty and the Heartbreakers should be In the top 10. Over 30 years of great music and their live performances are as good as if gets. Tom Petty is a brilliant singer and songwriter, Mike Campbell an AWESOME lead guitarist. Benmont Tench, a phenomenal piano and keyboard player. Ron Blair, Scott Thurston and Steve Ferrone complete this fantastic Rock & Roll band. I do miss Howie and I love them all. As the saying goes they just get better with age.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers should easily be in the top 15. You could attend a three hour concert of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and listen to nothing but hits. Obviously because they have produced consistently great music for several decades. Do yourself a favor and listen to some of these great songs: Free Fallin', I Won't Back Down, Refugee, American Girl, Mary Jane's Last Dance, Runnin' Down A Dream, The Waiting, Learning To Fly, Breakdown, You Wreck Me, I Need To Know, You Don't Know How It Feels, Don't Come Around Here No More, Listen To Her Heart, Into The Great Wide Open, Yer So Bad, Even The Losers, You Got Lucky, Here Comes My Girl, Don't Do Me Like That, A Face In The Crowd, Apartment Song, Hometown Blues, It's Good To Be King, Southern Accents, The Wild One Forever, Something In The Air, The Last DJ...and there are so many more great songs you could listen too.

One of the last true rock bands that were around before rock "died". STP embodied the classic rock n' roll sound mixed with the grungy 90's sound. The members exemplified the sex, drugs and rock n' roll cliché to record breaking heights! Through hell and high water, the band kept entertaining us with beautiful, hard hitting tunes, cancelled shows and heroin abuse.

The 90's wouldn't have been the same without Interstate Love Song, Plush and Big Bang Baby. Their final eponymous album was, is and forever shall be a tribute to their total mastery of rock and their total indifference towards it. Just amazing of you ask me.

I've always love STP's style over any other band. They should be higher.

STP Must be in the top 20

89 The Allman Brothers Band The Allman Brothers Band The Allman Brothers Band was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman and Gregg Allman, as well as Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson.

They are improving as they get older which is ridiculous, and the talent they have had at guitar over the years is staggering... Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes, and Derek Trucks. All of these guitarists are in the top 100 guitarists of all time.

Duane Allman was voted by Rolling Stone magazine as the no 2 guitarist of all time. Wayne haynes and Dicky Bets who also played with the band wore in the top 30. The band it self is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Don't you think they should be on this list.

After nearly 40 years of great music, this band sounds as good as ever. 7 musicians with talent like no others. "WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE ABSOLUTE BEST 'BAND' TO EVER TAKE A STAGE. " - mdp1970

I like Duane as a musician but I didn't like the slide solo on Layla...sounded out of tune and lost with the rest of the song...let me guess, you're gonna say the band was lost and Duane was in tune - frankmartin

90 The Grateful Dead The Grateful Dead The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. Ranging from quintet to septet, the band is known for its unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of country, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, rock, improvisational jazz, psychedelia, space rock, for live performances ...read more.

There's a saying that applies to the Grateful Dead...

"to those who know, no words are necessary; to those who don't know, there aren't enough words"

interpreted means if you are a fan of the Grateful Dead and have seen "it" (which means loosely you have seen a band be able to turn an aircraft carrier on a dime) then there are no words needed to describe this to you, because words could never do it justice anyway. However if you've never had the pleasure to experience their live prowess or their music, then there's no point trying to find the words to tell you what they're about because again, there are no words that could do what the Grateful Dead did justice. It wasn't just music, albums, concerts, etc. It was a band that came from a place and time that represents an ideal, but their music is full of cautionary tales as well as celebration.

Ignore the posts that talk about anything but the quality of the live concerts. Although the Deadhead world contains some posers and other tone-deaf monkeys who think that the Dead was a cult, the Dead was actually never supposed to be about vibes, culture, record or ticket sales, or popularity, or whatever else. It's really about the musical interplay of several gifted musicians over 3 decades (the last real Dead show was in 1995, no matter what the remaining band members want to say about the Jerry-less 2015 shows at Soldier Field). In the "jam band" space, and in my opinion, in any space, they were the best live rock group of all time.

Really, there is not nor has there ever been a group like The Dead. Unlike most bands, The Dead never played the same show twice - they had well over 100 songs in their repertoire and few, if any, dogs among them. Because they didn't get much air play and the recorded versions rarely captured the "live" sound, they probably didn't win over many fans through those venues. But, if you saw them in concert and got to know some of their songs, then you know that The Dead rate at or near the top of this list.

Name another band that was more influential than the dead. Factually impossible. Dead Heads everywhere - GreenRyan

91 Shinedown Shinedown Shinedown is an American hard rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 and founded by members Brent Smith, Brad Stewart, Jasin Todd, and Barry Kerch.

It's so absolutely ridiculous how low the are how could bowling for soup or lmfao which isn't even rock -its pop (and really bad) go before shinedown who did second chance, what a shame, breaking inside, call me, miracle, bully. Every song on the album sound of madness was amazing and brent smith their lead and songwriter is brilliant with his lyrics and has the best voice ever he can go higher than anybody EVER his voice can be sugar sweet when he goes high or gruff and sandy when he goes low- who does this list?

How can you go wrong with .45

Absolutely amazing band - a song to describe every possible mood anyone could ever be in, with so much passion in Brent's voice for simple man and call me, and incredible power for sound of madness and cyanide sweet tooth - too name a few. Despite not being in the public eye they have still sold 10 million albums worldwide - they need more appreciation

92 The Kinks The Kinks The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, in 1963 by brothers Dave and Ray Davies.

MUCH greater than the Rolling Stones - should be at least occupying their spot on this list. Ray D. is the most sublime and humanistic of all rock writers - incredibly relatable in any era. He always composed from a strangely middle-aged perspective that sounds better the older you get, giving their music an amazing timelessness. If you've only heard You Really Got Me you are missing one of rock's greatest unsung catalogs.

Old band but incredible! The best band you will ever hear! So much better than all the other bands! Could listen to the all day everyday! FANTASTIC BAND!

Davies, Bowie and Townshend best British songwriters ever. Kinks have the longest stretch of greatness of any rock band that has ever existed. Inventors of genres and a top three band on this somewhat misguided list. God save em indeed!

More good songs than any band in history. Most underrated band in history. Great live performances in the 80s. Very relatable to the common man.

Along with High On Fire, the absolute kings of all they survey. Every album is damned amazing.

The fact that this band is 200 spots behind that atrocious band Bring Me The Horizon is sad

Everyone in this band is awesome, all their albums are awesome, ergo MASTODON IS AWESOME.

I totally agree this band should be way higher than some of these rookie bands.

96 Dragonforce Dragonforce DragonForce are a British power metal band based in London, England. Formed in 1999, the group are known for their long and fast guitar solos, fantasy-themed lyrics, and electronic sounds in their music to add to their retro video game-influenced sound.

Just hear their songs.
-Herman li is the best on guitar.
List of musics to hear:
-FURY OF THE STORM
-OPERATION GROUND AND POUND
-TROUGH FIRE AND FLAMES

212th place? Everyone in this whole band has talent, and it shows in their shredding in every single song. This list isn't that good anyway; bands like Metallica and a few others in the top are pure metal. Dragonforce is a mix of power metal and rock.

A great band who does a great mix of rock and power metal. They actually take time to create a good rhythm, lyrics, and solos, unlike many other bands that just scream into microphones, and just wail on the guitar.

This is a rock band list, not a power metal list. This list isn't about the sheer speed and force of which fingers can move across strings. - frankmartin
