82 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are an American rock band from Gainesville, Florida. In 1976, the band's original lineup was Tom Petty as the lead singer and guitar player, Mike Campbell as the lead guitarist, Ron Blair on bass, Stan Lynch on drums, and Benmont Tench on keyboards.

What an insult. Tom petty and the Heartbreakers should be In the top 10. Over 30 years of great music and their live performances are as good as if gets. Tom Petty is a brilliant singer and songwriter, Mike Campbell an AWESOME lead guitarist. Benmont Tench, a phenomenal piano and keyboard player. Ron Blair, Scott Thurston and Steve Ferrone complete this fantastic Rock & Roll band. I do miss Howie and I love them all. As the saying goes they just get better with age.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers should easily be in the top 15. You could attend a three hour concert of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and listen to nothing but hits. Obviously because they have produced consistently great music for several decades. Do yourself a favor and listen to some of these great songs: Free Fallin', I Won't Back Down, Refugee, American Girl, Mary Jane's Last Dance, Runnin' Down A Dream, The Waiting, Learning To Fly, Breakdown, You Wreck Me, I Need To Know, You Don't Know How It Feels, Don't Come Around Here No More, Listen To Her Heart, Into The Great Wide Open, Yer So Bad, Even The Losers, You Got Lucky, Here Comes My Girl, Don't Do Me Like That, A Face In The Crowd, Apartment Song, Hometown Blues, It's Good To Be King, Southern Accents, The Wild One Forever, Something In The Air, The Last DJ...and there are so many more great songs you could listen too.

#94. Seriously?!?! They are the most influential band of the 2000's. Not just Seven Nation Army, but all of their songs. Their debut is awesome, De Stiji brings a certain hard rock awesomeness. White Blood Cells with its happy melodies, Elephant, widely considered the best album of the decade. Get Behind Me Satan, which proved that they were more than just an alternative band, and Icky Thump, a great album and my personal favorite. Jack White is one of the the musical genius of are generation. There is absolutely no bad White Stripes song, I dare you to name one because they are all awesome. They definitely deserve higher than 94.

This is one of the most original bands of the 21st century. They rose through the ashes of pop-country-rock crap and were able to bring classic blues and rock influences and cram it through jacks cheap, plastic, airline 59 that defined the tone of the band. Each album added another layer to the talent of this band: from the garage punk rock of their self titled ep, to the piano driven album Get Behind Me Satan, to the distortion filled album Elephant. Jacks skill on guitar and Megs simplistic drumming style should be in the top ten.

What?!? I LISTEN TO A LOT OF ROCK AND WHITE STRIPES DOMINATES! IT SHOULD BE 1st; ACDC and 2nd; THE white stripes. What's wrong with today's people? I mean the white stripes wrote history with seven nation army! So which idiot placed this band on 94?

Meg white is a terrible drummer, jack sucks at guitar he can't even tune it properly - Awesomenunny

Sum 41 should really win this :) I think they deserve that because they really know how to rock the house, and they have everything a band could need. Besides, they rock live, and they play all kinds of different styles, from pop-punk to Heavy Metal

How can sum41 be at this position, in my opinion there music is awesome! More than that they play different kinds of music from punk to heavy metal. There first album all killer no filler is fabulous!

They are awesome. It's a tad sad that people can't understand that they should be way up there. That is all.

Sum 41 has song for every single mood that exists... they have lyrics that reflect hard times and inspire us to get better (for example: War), they have songs that people struggling through hard times can relate to, ultimately finding comfort in the lyrics Deryck sings because they CAN relate (as in Pieces, Sick of Everyone, Still Waiting, Walking Disaster...), and even have music for the outsiders that were looked down on (Fat Lip, God Save Us All (Death to Pop)). Long story short? Sum 41 deserves top 10, if not number 1. Amazing band.

86 Stone Temple Pilots Stone Temple Pilots Stone Temple Pilots was formed in San Diego, CA in 1989. ...read more.

One of the last true rock bands that were around before rock "died". STP embodied the classic rock n' roll sound mixed with the grungy 90's sound. The members exemplified the sex, drugs and rock n' roll cliché to record breaking heights! Through hell and high water, the band kept entertaining us with beautiful, hard hitting tunes, cancelled shows and heroin abuse.

The 90's wouldn't have been the same without Interstate Love Song, Plush and Big Bang Baby. Their final eponymous album was, is and forever shall be a tribute to their total mastery of rock and their total indifference towards it. Just amazing of you ask me.

I've always love STP's style over any other band. They should be higher.

STP Must be in the top 20

I prefer twenty one pilots myself...

87 Collective Soul Collective Soul Collective Soul is an American rock band originally from Stockbridge, Georgia. Now based in Atlanta, the group consists of lead vocalist Ed Roland, rhythm guitarist Dean Roland, bassist Will Turpin, drummer Johnny Rabb and lead guitarist Jesse Triplett.

This band has the amazing ability to sound both chill and heavy on their songs. For a perfect example listen to their self titled album. It's such a fun record to listen to and has a good mixture of hard rockers and chill layed back songs. If you don't want to listen to the whole thing just listen to these tracks: The World I Know, Smashing Young Man, December, Gel and Bleed.

0% of votes?! Collective Soul is one of the most iconic rock bands of the 90's, and came out with some really good material. Top Ten? Probably not. But they're a heck of a lot better than 146. Don't judge them by Shine, their biggest hit but really not their best song.

Some of the bands in the top 20 are pretty cool, but not having this one there was unbelievable! People, please!

Such an underrated band! Great live band!
At least get the 7even Year Itch (greatest hits) or DOSAGE! Ed has an amazing voice! Been around 20 yrs & rock as hard as ever! -- Heavy, She Said, Run, the World I know, Tell Me Why, Gel, Listen, etc. They had 7 songs hit #1!

The best Hard Rock group in the world! There are a lot of beautiful tracks for example: Still Loving You, Send me an Angel, Wind of Change, Living for tomorrow, No one like you, Rock you Like a Hurricane, Cost to Cost...

SCORPIONS IS THE BEST ROCK GROUP! KLAUS Maine FOREVER! STILL LOVING YOU, WHEN THE SMOKE IS GOING DOWN, WIND OF CHANGE, HOLIDAY, WHEN YOU CAME INTO MY LIFE... THIS SONGS ARE WONDERFUL. LISTEN TO THEM AND YOU UNDERSTAND!

I was planning on voting for Queen when I noticed the Scorpions. I never expected them to be recognized as one of the top ten bands ever. I have now voted for them, being my favorite band and all. - sorpah

If Dimebag Darrel wouldn't have died and if the band wouldn't separate they would be the best. Still, they deserve top 3, not 10

Pantera is the greatest band that has ever existed. No band will ever be better. If dimebag wasn't dead and they were still together today, they would top all the charts guaranteed. I hope that the pantera experience is never forgotten. We miss you Dimebag

Pantera was the band who saved Metal/Rock during the 90's! Why they so low? Vulagar Display Of Power and Cowboys From Hell have helped shape up a lot of the bands higher up the list and yet everyone's forgetting it! PANTERA RULE Metallica! I'm also disappointed in not seeing Machine Head after going through 5 pages. That's just wrong. PANTERA deserve top 3 AT LEAST for saving a genre that nearly DIED in the 90's! PANTERA FOR LIFE!

Here Pantera sits. At 104. Pantera. Is NUMBER 1. Regardless of this cheesy toptens website. There are bands further up, and above 104, that as far as myself and many are concerned, don't deserve a higher rating than Pantera.

You know who you are Pantera Fans. And you know Pantera deserves better than 104.

If you are not a fan of Pantera. Go an have a better listen. So as you may get a better understanding, as to why. If you can't handle Pantera. Then that's further reason WHY Pantera is actually number 1. Because you are soft.
Go and listen to it again. And again. And again, until it sinks in.

If you haven't listened to Pantera. Go and listen to Pantera. You're going to have to fight for it for a while until you get the taste for Pantera.

Pantera isn't for bitches.

91 The Grateful Dead The Grateful Dead The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. Ranging from quintet to septet, the band is known for its unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of country, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, rock, improvisational jazz, psychedelia, space rock, for live performances ...read more.

There's a saying that applies to the Grateful Dead...

"to those who know, no words are necessary; to those who don't know, there aren't enough words"

interpreted means if you are a fan of the Grateful Dead and have seen "it" (which means loosely you have seen a band be able to turn an aircraft carrier on a dime) then there are no words needed to describe this to you, because words could never do it justice anyway. However if you've never had the pleasure to experience their live prowess or their music, then there's no point trying to find the words to tell you what they're about because again, there are no words that could do what the Grateful Dead did justice. It wasn't just music, albums, concerts, etc. It was a band that came from a place and time that represents an ideal, but their music is full of cautionary tales as well as celebration.

Ignore the posts that talk about anything but the quality of the live concerts. Although the Deadhead world contains some posers and other tone-deaf monkeys who think that the Dead was a cult, the Dead was actually never supposed to be about vibes, culture, record or ticket sales, or popularity, or whatever else. It's really about the musical interplay of several gifted musicians over 3 decades (the last real Dead show was in 1995, no matter what the remaining band members want to say about the Jerry-less 2015 shows at Soldier Field). In the "jam band" space, and in my opinion, in any space, they were the best live rock group of all time.

Really, there is not nor has there ever been a group like The Dead. Unlike most bands, The Dead never played the same show twice - they had well over 100 songs in their repertoire and few, if any, dogs among them. Because they didn't get much air play and the recorded versions rarely captured the "live" sound, they probably didn't win over many fans through those venues. But, if you saw them in concert and got to know some of their songs, then you know that The Dead rate at or near the top of this list.

Name another band that was more influential than the dead. Factually impossible. Dead Heads everywhere - GreenRyan

92 Oasis Oasis Oasis were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. Developed from an earlier group, the Rain, the band originally consisted of Liam Gallagher (vocals and tambourine), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll.

I've been listening to just about every kind of music, and Oasis is the only band that never dissapoints me! Noel Gallagher is the best songwriter of the last 20 years. Thank you for the good times Oasis!

How are Oasis #54? The Best Band to come out of Britain along with The Stones and The Beatles, But Oasis took inspiration and raised the bar to where it's never been, Noel writing songs wit unbelievable meaning and thousands of people relate to his lyrics, mix that with the attitude and arrogance of the best frontman there's ever been, You can't get any better? Manchester was the place to be back then!

How is Oasis at 53? They were the inspiration for all us growing up in the 80/90's. Some say they are not the best because they did not complete a world tour but does this really matter? They remind me of a time a long time ago when the world was easy to understand

Best band to come out of the uk since the Beatles. Period.

2 good reasons why they use these masks.
-To scare off pop fans who would go insane after hearing their greatness.
-To stand out of a pack of other rock bands. In a giant clump of rock bands, it would be very easy to pick them out of the bunch.

For those times when you just need to release your anger!

Everyone in this band plays at least two instruments. they have awesome musicianship. Sid wilson is a great DJ, Corey Taylor can go from singing to screaming better then anyone else, Joey Jordison is the fastest drummer of all time and the best metal drummer. there guitar and bass is nothing special but it is far from bad. P! atD has THEIR OWN STYLE! Not many bands can come up with something completely original and be successful at it! - BulletStreet

How couldn't they be awesome? They had so much success when they were only 17 (most of them), they didn't sound the same with their second album, which makes them a unique band since nowadays, most of the bands always sound the same despite their years of career, for example: Green Day; and also, even though there are only two of the four members, they keep making music and amazing many people with their energy at the shows.

Panic! At The Disco is such a great band.
Brendon Urie has an amazing vocal range, his voice just demands attention
Their style is unique and with every album their is something new
Not to mention Spencer Smith is such an awesome drummer!

I don't think I have to say something about them... Just listen to them and you'll know why I was so shocked no one thought about them!

THE best band the U.S. has ever produced. You can debate this if you want but it is the carved in stone truth. Listening to their catalogue now, it hasn't dated one bit since it was made and actually sounds better and more timeless than ever. Dozens and dozens of classic songs that still alter the perception of life. Best album? Could be one of 9 different ones - very few bands can come anywhere near that claim and none can match the unbroken line of sublime quality they left. Should be top ten and much more revered than they currently are by all citizens of planet Earth.

Come On guys! R.E. M on 123? They made awesome songs for decades! Love them.

96 The Allman Brothers Band The Allman Brothers Band The Allman Brothers Band was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman and Gregg Allman, as well as Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson.

They are improving as they get older which is ridiculous, and the talent they have had at guitar over the years is staggering... Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes, and Derek Trucks. All of these guitarists are in the top 100 guitarists of all time.

Duane Allman was voted by Rolling Stone magazine as the no 2 guitarist of all time. Wayne haynes and Dicky Bets who also played with the band wore in the top 30. The band it self is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Don't you think they should be on this list.

After nearly 40 years of great music, this band sounds as good as ever. 7 musicians with talent like no others. "WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE ABSOLUTE BEST 'BAND' TO EVER TAKE A STAGE. " - mdp1970

The Allman Brothers at number 111, you've got to be kidding. You've obviously never listened to any of their albums. How is it possible that Lenard Skynard can be voted so far ahead of the original kings of southern rock?

97 Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention The Mothers of Invention were an American rock band from California that served as the backing musicians for Frank Zappa. Their work is marked by the use of sonic experimentation, innovative album art, and elaborate live shows.

It seems that most people who vote on this list don't know about FZ at all. Great intelligent lyrics, incredible music, in many styles (we call this: Zappa style). Most underrated guitar player. Fantastic live entertainment. And also: the good humour on stage. Just take a look of youtube videos in the 1973 era: Jaw dropping musicianship. Great musicians played with FZ, but he made them performing to their best. 63 official albums. No compromise. No bull. No substitute. Still sound fresh after all those years. Thank you Frank.

sorry, but Zappa in 171 place? Has anyone voting in this pole ever listened music or they just hear. Zappa is an innovator in music, from music to lyrics to stage show. He was a real musician who had knowlledge of synthesis and of his instrument. I see groups in this pole that are not bad but they have no history to back up their existence.

NUTS! Zappa is only here because most people have never heard his terrifyingly awesome music. Frank was a musically savant so far ahead of his time and beyond us normal humans, its difficult to capture his genius in a few words. I'll just say WOW! Thanks so much Frank. You were the Mozart of your time.

Should be higher. Love Zappa - Jiorl

99 The Kinks The Kinks The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, in 1963 by brothers Dave and Ray Davies.

MUCH greater than the Rolling Stones - should be at least occupying their spot on this list. Ray D. is the most sublime and humanistic of all rock writers - incredibly relatable in any era. He always composed from a strangely middle-aged perspective that sounds better the older you get, giving their music an amazing timelessness. If you've only heard You Really Got Me you are missing one of rock's greatest unsung catalogs.

Old band but incredible! The best band you will ever hear! So much better than all the other bands! Could listen to the all day everyday! FANTASTIC BAND!

Davies, Bowie and Townshend best British songwriters ever. Kinks have the longest stretch of greatness of any rock band that has ever existed. Inventors of genres and a top three band on this somewhat misguided list. God save em indeed!

The ratio of The Kinks importance to rock and to their popularity is so heinously skewed it beggars belief. Of all the big 60's birthed acts they seem to be the most underappreciated and forgotten. Not by me. Not now, not ever. Misfit and Sleepwalker until the end.

100 Pixies Pixies The Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts. The group disbanded in 1993 in acrimonious circumstances, but reunited in 2004. The group currently consists of founders Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering.

You've got to be kidding me. A band that influenced almost every decent grunge band, as well as multiple different alternative rock bands that would go on to influence even more bands, and you can't do it any more respect than 113. this world and everything on it.

The Pixies are the Van Gogh of alternative rock and sadly won't be appreciated until aliens discover their music a thousand years from now. Without these guys, half of the Top 50 bands on this list wouldn't even exist. Bands that have given their due include Nirvana and Radiohead.

The Pixies were not the most successful band commercially or on this list. As the average person is an idiot this is one of the many reasons why they are the greatest and coolest band ever...
