Top Ten Rock/Metal Bands that Get Too Much Praise/Hype

The Top Ten
1 The Beatles The Beatles were an English pop rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements in innovative ways. ...read more.

I agree with bands being influential and amazing at the time doesn't directly make them amazing. Over time, the Beatles are a band that sounds more and more dated/simplistic and I personally don't think that they are the greatest band ever. For an example of an old band that still sounds great today, take King Crimson, a band so unique and innovative that I haven't heard anything quite like them even today. Feel free to disagree with me, after all it's just my opinion, but these are my thoughts on the matter.

Edgy teens who hold anything in contempt that non-edgy, non-teens might like, take particular pleasure in disliking the Beatles.

The Rolling Stones & The Doors are much better.

They’re really nothing special, musically. Being influential doesn’t make them special, a lot of rock bands from their time were better. Their instrumentation is pretty generic, John Lennon was a weak vocalist, and also a terrible person.
At least I can listen to the few songs of theirs I like and know he’s not getting any royalties.

2 Twenty One Pilots Twenty One Pilots is an American musical duo that is originally from Columbus, Ohio, who are best known for their songs "Stressed Out", "Heathens" and "Ride". Currently there are two members, Tyler Joseph (lead vocals, piano, keyboards, synthesizers, ukulele, bass and guitar) and Josh Dun (drums and percussion). Former members include Nick Thomas (guitar, bass, piano and keyboards) and Chris Salih (drums and percussions). The band was formed in 2009 with Joseph, Thomas and Salih. ...read more.

Truly Terrible band. A band with an Annoying fanbase, overrated lyrics, and a a band which just tries to hard, I just cannot stand TOP.

3 Kreator Kreator is a German thrash metal band from Essen. Their style of music is similar to that of their compatriots Destruction, Sodom and Tankard; along with those three bands, Kreator has been referred to as one of the "big four" of Teutonic thrash metal, and they are often credited with helping pioneer ...read more.

In the metal underground, as well as the thrash community, Kreator is extremely overrated. Their small fanbase is rabid and extremely defensive, like a lot of extreme metal fanbases.

4 Avenged Sevenfold Avenged Sevenfold is an American heavy metal band, that was formed 1999 in California. Their longest lineup of members was M. Shadows (Vocals), Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar), Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar), Johnny Christ (Bass Guitar), and The Rev (Drums).

A common phrase for fans "foREVer" was created after the Rev's death in his remembrance. ...read more.

Despite the fact that I love this band, I cannot deny that the fans hype them up as something that they're not, they aren't one of the best bands ever, just a high quality modern rock band

5 Queen Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970. The original lineup was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar, vocals). Before forming into Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. He then joined the band in 1970, suggested "Queen" as a new band name, and adopted his familiar stage name. John Deacon was also recruited to complete the line-up. ...read more.

I find them to have a lot of amazing songs, but they definitely have some filler mixed in. Their albums are in general somewhat boring to listen to, so they are a band that I tend to just pick certain songs from albums (except Sheer Heart Attack, that one's near perfection). I think that they are great, but not quite one of the greatest bands of all time

There’s better songs than Bohemian Rhapsody. Just because Mercury could sing highs and he sang when he was dying doesn’t make him the best singer of all time. Ronnie James Dio did the same thing and he was a way better vocalist.

6 Megadeth Megadeth is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles, California. Megadeth was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine was fired from Metallica. They have released 15 studio albums to date, and have gone through many lineup changes, with Dave Mustaine being the sole constant member.

Not really in my opinion

9 Black Sabbath Black Sabbath were a Heavy Metal band formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Tony Iommi, singer John "Ozzy" Osbourne, bassist and main lyricist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward.

The band became mainstream after improving after their debut album got panned. In 1978, Osbourne was fired and replaced with former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Who went to release 2 albums before leaving in 1983, only for Osbourne to return in 1992. ...read more.

Black Sabbath is the most overrated Heavy Metal band ever. I'll give it that they're influential and there are some admittedly good songs, but I think they critically get way too much attention. If Metallica is overrated due to its popularity and fans, I'd say the same applies to Black Sabbath in terms of critics, who just so happen to love putting them on 1st place on any given Metal list. That, and personally, their work just doesn't stand out much compared to Metallica, Iron Maiden and even some modern bands like Slipknot (dare I say). Also, I don't see Ozzy as being that good of a vocalist either. And lastly, they DIDN'T ENTIRELY CREATE THE METAL GENRE! Deep Purple and Scorpions are also pretty pivotal in Metal's development and deserve just as much acknowledgement.

Their first few albums are amazing, the 3 Dio albums are also epic, but they have a lot of albums that are not particularly good. I still believe that they deserve a lot of their praise, but they are far from perfect

10 Slayer Slayer was an American thrash metal band from Huntington Park, California, formed in 1981 by guitarists Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King. Their 4 peak albums are all absolute masterpieces, but I find most of their other work to be fairly dull and lackluster

Sure Nirvana has some good lyrics, but they're musicianship is Mediocre at best in my opinion. A lot of their songs sound the same, and Kurt Cobain is one of the most overrated Guitar players ever in my mind. They just seem to slide up and down the same notes over, and over again. Plus they are far from one of the best Grunge bands.

Not much variety in my opinion.

15 System Of A Down System of a Down, formed in 1994, is an Armenian-American alternative metal group from Glendale, California. The band name is sometimes shortened to System or SOAD. Everything before Got Your Six was good, but that album was garbage. They pretty much sold out with that album.
