Top 10 Rock and Metal Songs with Falsetto

Falsetto (from Italian falso, "false") is a 'false' voice - it's the vocal register occupying the frequency range just above the modal voice register and overlapping with it by approximately one octave. Falsetto enables the singer to sing notes beyond the vocal range of the normal (modal) voice.

The typical tone of falsetto register is usually a breathy and flute-like sound with relatively limited overtones and power.

Falsetto may sound exotic but singing in falsetto takes much less effort than singing normally. It is produced by the vibration of the ligamentous edges of the vocal cords, in whole or in part, while leaving each fold's body relatively relaxed. In contrast, production of the normal voice involves vibration of the entire vocal cord.

Falsetto shouldn't be overrated but shouldn't be underrated either, because a good falsetto also takes effort to master.
The Top Ten
1 Abigail - King Diamond

King Diamond is the most famous falsetto vocalist in metal and the way he does it is sick.
Abigail is a song of 1987.
By the way, metal singers rarely use falsetto for one reason - falsetto voice has no power but metal music usually needs powerful voices to match the power of the instruments.

Admin, the samples to both King Diamond songs don't work. Can you fix it?

2 Paranoid Android - Radiohead

Thom Yorke is the most famous falsetto singer in rock - you can hear his falsetto if you play the sample

3 Urn (Part I) - And Within the Void We Are Breathless - Ne Obliviscaris

The chorus is in falsetto (3:00-3:20) sung by Tim Charles. This is one of my fave parts of the song because falsetto perfectly communicates the vulnerability of the character when he sings "And within the void we are breathless".
His falsetto reminds me of Thom Yorke in Paranoid Android.

4 Flash - Queen

A perfect falsetto can be heard in the 2nd half of the sample.

5 Either Way - Guster

Play the sample to hear how good and long he holds his falsetto note. A clear and perfect falsetto note ("w-a-y")

6 Welcome Home - King Diamond
7 Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead

One more entry, Radiohead!

8 Needs - Collective Soul
9 Surf's Up - The Beach Boys
10 Supermassive Black Hole - Muse

Nearly every Muse song could belong on this list honestly

Matt did a great job here.

The Contenders
11 I Believe in a Thing Called Love - The Darkness

This is a very generic glam rock song of 2003, annoyingly generic I have to add, but the falsetto isn't bad

12 Sweetest Thing - U2
13 Blue Orchid - The White Stripes

Jack White has a high singing voice and rarely uses falsetto. But here he did.

14 Nude - Radiohead
15 The Bronze Beached Boys (Come on Let's Go) - Pas/Cal
16 Always - Panic! at the Disco
