The people on this list aren't metal. Some of them never claimed to be metal so please understand that.

The Top Ten

1 Chester Bennington Chester Bennington Chester Charles Bennington (March 20th, 1976 - July 20th, 2017) was an American musician, singer, songwriter and actor, best known for being the lead singer of Linkin Park. He also has a few side projects like Julien K and Dead By Sunrise. He committed suicide in 2017 due to depression.

'It's just that it gets very annoying and misleading when someone places a band in the wrong genre'; It's more annoying when redundant lists are submitted everyday with no actual reason. What band is metal or not; what metal musician likes dogs or cats; or which metal musician could be leader of the world.

I agree with all 10 items of the original remix of the author. - Metal_Treasure

May I ask, why do metalheads make such a big deal about what band is metal and what is not? I'm very curious why that is so because it just bothers me that this is something people love to argue about. - cjWriter1997

2 Corey Taylor Corey Taylor Corey Todd Taylor was born in December 8, 1973. He is an American musician, author, and actor best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the Nu-metal band Slipknot and hard rock/alternative metal band Stone Sour.

Slipknot claim they play thrash metal... LOL. Whatever they play, it isn't thrash metal. And for me, it isn't metal in general. - Metal_Treasure

Oh dear... Skullkid755, it's not death metal vocals. It's called harsh (rough) vocals and harsh vocals are still clean vocals although they are different from melodic clean vocals. Death growls are from a completely different group - "unclean" vocals. - Metal_Treasure

Talking bout Stone Sour right? - EliHbk

Define metal singing.

For a while Disturbed had a different name in the 90s (Brawl) and as Brawl they released a demo with 4 songs that was groove metal. But it was with another singer, so yes - David Draiman isn't a metal singer. - Metal_Treasure

4 Fred Durst Fred Durst William Frederick "Fred" Durst is an American musician and film director. Durst is best known as the vocalist of the nu metal band Limp Bizkit, formed in 1994, with whom he has released six studio albums.

Though he was like rap metal (more like rap-rock) - EliHbk

He himself admitted Korn were not metal. I agree - their music is basically rap/hip hop with punk, rock and industrial rock (in different proportions, depending on the song). - Metal_Treasure

Then it's pretty heavy rock - EliHbk

13 Lemmy Kilmister Lemmy Kilmister Ian Fraser Kilmister, known as Lemmy, was an English musician, singer and songwriter who founded and fronted the rock band Motörhead.

Lemmy (R.I.P.) himself denied being metal many times and I agree with his explanations:
"We were not heavy metal. We were a rock 'n' roll band. Still are. Everyone always describes us as heavy metal even when I tell them otherwise. Why won't people listen? Motörhead have more in common aesthetically with The Damned than Black Sabbath, and nothing whatsoever in common with Judas Priest. We were a blues band, really. Although we played it at a thousand miles an hour, it was recognizable as blues - at least to us it was; probably it wasn’t to anybody else" (2011)
In 2014, Lemmy reiterated to Der Spiegel: "I do not particularly like heavy metal."
"I generally feel more kinship with punk rockers than with heavy metal bands." - Metal_Treasure

EliHbk, I agree it's pretty stupid to call Aerosmith metal but many people actually do - Steven Tyler is at #46 (out of 204) on the list Top Metal Singers, which is very high despite remixes with him on dishonorable mentions. He's higher than Russell Allen (#76), Floor Jansen, Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth, Tim Ripper Owens, and many more, because the list has 204 items as of today. - Metal_Treasure

What, who calls aerosmith metal? - EliHbk
