The Contenders: Page 3

41 The 100 - Kass Morgan

It is about these people that live in space after a devastating nuclear war. 300 years later the government sends 100 juvenile delinquents to colonize Earth and see if it's safe. I can't spoil much more. This book series is very depressing.

42 We Were Liars - E. Lockhart

The end was really depressing and I cried a lot

I had a deep sadness after reading it

43 Out of My Mind - Sharon M. Draper
44 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Suzanne Collins

Prim and Finnick die. Why did I have to put this up this should be number 1 already

45 Wuthering Heights

Wow... A list about depressing books and Wuthering Heights is ranked last -,- What is wrong with you people?

Basically depressing and shows the dark side of humanity without resorting to Sci-Fi plots

46 The Outsiders - S.E. Hinton V 2 Comments
47 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - J.K. Rowling
48 A Monster Calls
49 A Farewell to Arms - Ernest Hemingway

One of those books that stays with you. Undoubtedly a downer but the emotion that Hemingway pulls from the reader makes AFTA a true masterpiece.

50 The Silmarillion - J.R.R. Tolkien

The endings to the stories are either downers or bittersweet. It is still beautiful, but a different kind of beautiful when compared to the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings. I always preferred tragedies, and Of Turin Turambar is the best there is. - FrozenHatingPokefan

51 The Mark of Athena - Rick Riordan
52 Lonesome Dove - Larry McMurtry
53 Assassin's Creed: Forsaken - Oliver Bowden
54 Nineteen Minutes - Jodi Picoult
55 Tears of a Tiger - Sharon Draper
56 A Corner of the Universe - Ann M. Martin
57 Martin the Warrior - Brian Jacques V 1 Comment
58 The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks
59 A Year Without Autumn - Liz Kessler

The book was so well written. So much tragedy in it, it was so sad. I loved the desperation of the character who was trying to save her friends little brother.

60 A Walk to Remember - Nicholas Sparks

Why isn't it on the list? It is the paragon for "sad" books. Who could forget Landon's love for Jamie? Jamie's death isn't fictional. It could happen to anyone which makes it 100x more sad. I'm not gonna be a spoiler but this book is beyond perfect. If you haven't read it, read it. If you have, then read it again and vote if you agree with this.
