The Contenders: Page 2

21 Here Comes the Tears - Judas Priest

I don't see how this is not number 1. It's literally the most powerfully sad song I have ever heard. If not you do not find it depressing, you will still definitely find it sad and haunting

22 Hurt - Nine Inch Nails

People who say Nine Inch Nails isn't metal don't know what metal is. This song was covered by Johnny Cash himself. - ryanrimmel

It doesn't, but it does prove how great the song is. Nine Inch Nails has some pretty heavy stuff. If Marilyn Manson is metal, than NIN is - ryanrimmel

Definitely NOT a Metal band, but easily one of the saddest and most powerful songs ever.

Not metal at all.

Should be in the top 10s

23 Down Where I Am - Demons & Wizards

A father rejects his newborn child diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The song describes the struggle of the father and the emotions going in and out of his mind.
"I don't wanna hold you
(Please tell me why)
I don't wanna see you
'Cause even your smile hurts
Oh, it hurts like hell
...
Let's face it here and now
You're not welcome you should know
I fear my heart and fear my soul
Life goes on it surely will
Without me it will wither
... My tear of joy turned into grief
(I don't wanna stand it anymore)" - Metal_Treasure

24 Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit

No. This is a sub par cover of a legendary song. - ryanrimmel

25 The Unforgiven - Metallica

Should be higher on the list. "new born joins this earth and quickly he's subdued, through constant pain and scourge the young boy learns the rules" a sad song for sure and really good

Should be in top 5

26 I Won't See You Tonight - Avenged Sevenfold

I honestly don't see how this isn't in at least the top 10. I mean dang... this song can make a 6ft 7 person cry his eyes out! Love this song and love this band also. R.I.P The Rev

27 Path of Glory - Demons & Wizards

"In a world of broken dreams
Depressed and haunting me
No way out
So many times it's hopeless dark and gray
No way out
And other times it's hope that saves the day" - Metal_Treasure

28 A Tout Le Monde - Megadeth

This should definitely be higher on the list. It definitely brought out Dave and the rest of the band's emotions.

One of the only metal songs that has actually made me cry.

29 Love's Tragedy Asunder - Demons and Wizards

It's about a man whose wife is terminally ill, and he assists her suicide, and ends up killing himself.
A great song. - Metal_Treasure

30 Daddy - Korn

This song is so disturbing and so depressing that I can't even bring myself to talk about it.

It's a very dark and disturbing song. It has a very powerful meaning.

31 Melancholy - Iced Earth
32 Hallowed Be Thy Name - Iron Maiden

Not sad, even though its about a guy being hung

33 Wings for Marie - Tool

The saddest song I've ever listened and will ever listen to. The musician ship is some of the best you will ever hear, the lyrics about the death of his mother is just emotional.

This two part song is about frontman Maynard Keenan's mother, her death, the events leading up to her death, and her speculated ascension to heaven.

34 Embrace of the Endless Ocean - Amon Amarth

The second half really did put me into tears

This one is so great!

35 Anybody There? - Rainbow

Amazing, sad and beautiful instrumental from Ritchie Blackmore. His fingers are magical and make this guitar speak and cry. - Metal_Treasure

36 'Til We Die - Slipknot

If you know what happened with Slipknot than you know why this song should be in the top 10!
Slipknot lost their bassist (RIP Paul gray) - METABOLICA

37 Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Metallica
38 A Place Where You Belong - Bullet for My Valentine

Cried so much during this song...

39 Diluted - Slipknot

I really love this band, I think that they should be first

40 Wrong Side of Heaven - Five Finger Death Punch

Think this isn't sad? Then go watch the music video for it. It'll have you tearing up in just a few minutes in.
