Saddest Heavy Metal Songsryanrimmel
The Contenders: Page 2
I love this song but it's not sad enough for the top 10. There are songs dealing with more cruel life events and should be higher than this song. But outside the context of this list - yes, Iced Earth is underrated. - Metal_Treasure
Iced Earth is underrated, very sad. - ryanrimmel
A father rejects his newborn child diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The song describes the struggle of the father and the emotions going in and out of his mind.
"I don't wanna hold you
(Please tell me why)
I don't wanna see you
'Cause even your smile hurts
Oh, it hurts like hell
Let's face it here and now
You're not welcome you should know
I fear my heart and fear my soul
Life goes on it surely will
Without me it will wither
... My tear of joy turned into grief
(I don't wanna stand it anymore)" - Metal_Treasure
No. This is a sub par cover of a legendary song. - ryanrimmel
Should be higher on the list. "new born joins this earth and quickly he's subdued, through constant pain and scourge the young boy learns the rules" a sad song for sure and really good
Should be in top 5
People who say Nine Inch Nails isn't metal don't know what metal is. This song was covered by Johnny Cash himself. - ryanrimmel
It doesn't, but it does prove how great the song is. Nine Inch Nails has some pretty heavy stuff. If Marilyn Manson is metal, than NIN is - ryanrimmel
Definitely NOT a Metal band, but easily one of the saddest and most powerful songs ever.
Not metal at all.
Should be in the top 10s
"In a world of broken dreams
Depressed and haunting me
No way out
So many times it's hopeless dark and gray
No way out
And other times it's hope that saves the day" - Metal_Treasure
I honestly don't see how this isn't in at least the top 10. I mean dang... this song can make a 6ft 7 person cry his eyes out! Love this song and love this band also. R.I.P The Rev
This should definitely be higher on the list. It definitely brought out Dave and the rest of the band's emotions.
One of the only metal songs that has actually made me cry.
It's about a man whose wife is terminally ill, and he assists her suicide, and ends up killing himself.
A great song. - Metal_Treasure
This song is so disturbing and so depressing that I can't even bring myself to talk about it.
Why isn't this higher on this list? The raw emotions make me angry at Jon's assaulter and happy that they're dead. - TheOlderBrother
It's a very dark and disturbing song. It has a very powerful meaning.
Not sad, even though its about a guy being hung
If you know what happened with Slipknot than you know why this song should be in the top 10!
Slipknot lost their bassist (RIP Paul gray) - METABOLICA
The saddest song I've ever listened and will ever listen to. The musician ship is some of the best you will ever hear, the lyrics about the death of his mother is just emotional.
This two part song is about frontman Maynard Keenan's mother, her death, the events leading up to her death, and her speculated ascension to heaven.
Amazing, sad and beautiful instrumental from Ritchie Blackmore. His fingers are magical and make this guitar speak and cry. - Metal_TreasureV 1 Comment
When you think about deep, powerful, emotional, sad songs, more often then not you are thinking about the lyrics.
This is a very large exception.
As most metal fans know (And all real Metallica fans) bassist Cliff Burton died touring Europe, promoting the previous album, Master of Puppets. Burton tragically died in a bus accident, and the other members of the band will never be able to shake the image of seeing just his legs sticking out from under the bus. I mean, think about that. Imagine seeing one of your dear friends lying lifeless, under a bus, right before your eyes.
Now, fast-forward to...And Justice for All. The band mostly reacted in anger about his death, which was reflected in the album. However, one song that was clearly different was this one. The first thing that a close observer will notice is that there was no bass guitar used in the song, despite Metallica already finding a new bass player. It starts slow, with a nice beat -- reflective of ...more
The second half really did put me into tears
This one is so great!
I really love this band, I think that they should be first
Amazingly heavy and sad musical tribute to Cliff Burton (even though the lyrics aren't about him)
How is fade to Black #1 and this ain't even in the top 10's
This is the saddest one for real.
