Saddest Movie Deaths

141 Satine (Nicole Kidman) - Moulin Rouge

Her death just gets me every single time. Seeing Satine and Christian so happy together and having that joy ripped apart just moments after they get back together is heartbreaking. Also, Christian's sobbing at the end... literally the saddest thing I have ever heard.

142 Yoda (Frank Oz) - Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Yoda is, like, my favorite Star Wars character of all time. I cry every time he dies. His last words are so pathetic, yknow, the way he huffs and puffs and has to give so much effort to spit them out, and the music is all dramatic. Rest In Peace Yoda.

I think this was already on this list.

143 Maureen Hope (Rachel McAdams) - Southpaw
144 Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck) - Double Indemnity

I know she was a villain, but she was my favorite character in the movie. - jack2244

145 Beast (Dan Stevens) - Beauty and the Beast (2017)
146 Godzilla - Godzilla vs Destoroyah

Godzilla's death signaled the end of an era. It's so sad to see what we thought was an invincible and unbeatable figure continue fighting until his last breath. Even though this death is sad, it gives us hope by reviving Godzilla Jr.

147 Ray (Jim Cummings) - The Princess and the Frog

In his memory, I will never kill an insect again, specially If is a firefly.

As for the who watched the movie, please never practice Vudu!

148 Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) - The Dark Knight
149 Thelma (Geena Davis) & Louise (Susan Sarandon) - Thelma & Louise
150 Artax - The NeverEnding Story

Watch the scene and try not to tear up

W-a-a-a-a-a-H! So terrible. One of the saddest ever. Poor Atreyu!

During the end of the film, Artax was resurrected. - playstationfan66

151 Salim K. Malik (Madhur Mittal) - Slumdog Millionaire

Watching the whole movie and then seeing Salim die was hard. Perfect character development and then he's gone.

152 Sally Bedina (Nancy Allen) - Blow Out
153 Adore Loomis (Jackie Earle Haley) - The Day of the Locust
154 Jason Staebler (Bruce Dern) - The King of Marvin Gardens
155 Nancy (Shani Wallis) - Oliver!

One user here hit the nail on the head about Nancy being a mother figure. Oliver never knew his real mother. To quote Mr Bumble the workhouse beadle, "Mother came to us destitute, brought a child to the world, gave one look at him and then promptly died without leaving as much as a forwarding name or address."

Part of London Bridge is actually called Nancy's Steps. This is where Nancy was murdered in the movie.

A brutal way to die, being bludgeoned by her ironic fiance Sikes

156 PIggy (Hugh Edwards) - Lord of the Flies (1963)
157 Julian Wells (Robert Downey Jr.) - Less Than Zero
158 Gohan - Dragonball Z: The History of Trunks

See it to believe it

159 Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) - Saving Private Ryan

After three hours of watching Tom Hanks bring this charecter to life he just slowly dies.

160 Fantine (Anne Hathaway) - Les Misérables (2012)

The reason Fantine was the saddest death in my opinion is because of her life. Everything was stripped away from her, and she saw so many opportunities walk away from her and couldn't stop it. She was abandoned by her lover, the only man who could've helped her before she was fired from the factory ran away scared, and she had to destroy her body and mind to keep a roof over her daughter's head. Jean Valjean never really helped to make her life easier. Sure, he took her to the hospital and promised to take in her daughter, but it was already to late to save her. Her life was virtually over. She was left dying fearing that she would go to Hell because she gave up her body to prostitution, which is a scary thing for religious people. She had to worry about if Jean Valjean would truly keep his word or if he would treat her daughter with kindness since she didn't know him very well. She also watched as her daughter (albeit a hallucination of her daughter) walked away from her as she was ...more

So much sadness. Her "I dream a dream" is so uplifting and sad.

I didn't know she died.
