Bolan died on 16 September 1977, two weeks before his 30th birthday, he was a passenger in a car driven by his girlfriend and mother of his son, Gloria Jones (the original singer of Tainted Love). She crashed the car, Bolan was killed instantly, while Jones suffered a broken arm, a broken jaw and spent time in hospital, she didn't learn of Bolan's death until the day of his funeral. - Lotuscandy
