The Top Ten
Why It's Sad:
In the episode "Tales of Ba Sing Se" Iroh spends his whole day helping everyone around him, for example, singing this song to calm down a crying boy at the market place. At the end of his day he sings this song in remembrance of his son Lu Ten, who died during the siege of Ba Sing Se, while Iroh was still a Fire Nation general. Before he starts singing the war ballad he says: "Happy birthday my son. If only I could have helped you." And softly begins to cry, which makes the whole scene even more heart-breaking, by stressing that Iroh has been helpful to every person in the episode, but was not able to save his son. It shows that the loss of his son was what caused his change of heart in regards to the war abd made him the lovable character as we got to know him.
Leaves from the vine
Falling so slow
Like fragile, tiny shells
Drifting in the foam
Little soldier boy
Come marching home
Brave soldier boy
Comes marching home
Iroh is such a kind and generous person who cares for everyone, especially his nephew, and seeing Iroh like this is heartbreaking.
Little soldier boy come marching home
Brave soldier boy comes marching home
With Rose being Pink Diamond and Pearl used to being her servant, the song makes more sense.
Why It's Sad:
In the episode: "Mr. Greg" Pearl is expressing her feelings regarding the loss of Rose and Rose having chosen Greg over her with this song.
I was fine with the men
Who would come into her life now and again.
I was fine 'cause I knew
That they didn't really matter until you. I was fine when you came
And we fought like it was all some silly game
Over her, who she'd choose.
After all those years, I never thought I'd lose. It's over, isn't it? Isn't it? Isn't it over?
It's over, isn't it? Isn't it? Isn't it over?
You won, and she chose you, and she loved you, and she's gone.
It's over, isn't it? Why can't I move on? War and glory, reinvention
Fusion, freedom, her attention,
Out in daylight, my potential,
Bold, precise, experimental, Who am I now in this world without her?
Petty and dull with the nerve to doubt her?
What does it matter, it's already done.
Now I've got to be there for her son. It's ...more
This song is why I love marceline and ice king(Simon petrikov)
Why It's Sad:
Marceline sings this song together with the Ice King in the episode "I Remember You". It is revealed that before Simon became the mad Ice King, he took care of a crying Marceline after the Mushroom War. Marceline reads an old note from him to him, desperately trying to get her old friend to remember. But his memory remains lost.
Marceline: Marceline, is it just you and me in the wreckage of the world?
That must be so confusing for a little girl.
And I know you're going to need me here with you.
But I'm losing myself, and I'm afraid you're gonna lose me too. This magic keeps me alive, but it's making me crazy,
And I need to save you, but who's going to save me?
Please forgive me for whatever I do,
When I don't remember you.
Ice King: Marceline, I can feel myself slipping away.
I can't remember what it made me say.
But I remember that I saw you frown.
I swear it wasn't me, it was the crown. This magic ...more

Why It's Sad:
Isabella is about to leave for college in the episode "Act Your Age" and remembers her friendship with Phineas, who never appeared to return her romantic feelings.
Phineas, however, has just realized what Isabella felt for him. He does feel the same and tries to find her before she leaves for college. They sing this as a duet about their missed shot at romance.
Isabella : I wanted you to see me,
But for so long, you were blind
Now it's time to face tomorrow,
And leave all that stuff behind
Of what would our lives have been like,
If you'd just given me a sign
'Cause I like you more than every other
Thing I like combined...
I spent so many summers,
Hoping something would begin
I thought that I was over you,
But here I am again...
What might have been

Why It's Sad:
While this song is not presented as sad in the episode it appeared in, the lyrics have been stated to be about Ember McLain's tragic back story by the creators.
"According to one of the creators for the show, before she died, Ember was an unpopular high school-aged girl who had large dreams of becoming a rock star. One day a boy asked her out to the movies. She waited all night for him to show up, saying, "He's just running late." When morning came and he didn't show up, Ember went home. She was so exhausted that she fell asleep and didn't wake up when her house mysteriously caught on fire. She died in the flames, which possibly gave her the name "Ember." Her song " Remember " is most likely based on the above events prior to her death." (Danny Phantom Wiki)
