104 A Day in the Life - The Beatles

Depressing song that actually sounds uplifting, but still keeping a depressing mood. It's kinda like those scenes in a movie where the main character's friend just died, but he doesn't feel sad, he just accepts the fact. In that way, it's a unique, melancholy kind of sadness. Definitely not #1, but I think it deserves a place on this list. - A7XfoREVer

105 Let Me In - R.E.M.
106 Down in a Hole - Alice in Chains

With a song like Down in a Hole, you just feel sad as you listen to the whole song. It's got some of the saddest verses ever heard, particularly when the first verse is repeated alongside the line "Oh I wanna be inside of you". The way the lyrics are sung convey the sadness, and also in the chorus you hear the apparent denial of hope. - NuMetalManiak

Haunting and chilling. No doubt everyone close to me knows this is a song that got me through some hard times in my life. By far one of the best rock songs that were ever written. Too bad Alice in Chains does not get enough credit. "I'd like to fly... But my wings have been so denied... " RIP Layne Staley

Yes... Down in a whole and nutshell.. So beautiful and haunting, especially nutshell.. Gives me chills.. Rip layne staley and Mike starr

My nan died in a hole

107 Broken - Seether

Whenever you have a song that is pretty acoustic-driven in the rock scene, you can expect it to be a slow, and sad song. Broken exemplifies this with it's acoustic guitar and very sorrowful and lonely lyrics. The second version of this song with Amy Lee is even sadder, when you think about how Amy Lee was Shaun Morgan's girlfriend at the time. - NuMetalManiak

What? I hope Seether in top 10! where's seether fans? because that song makes every people cry or sad.

This song deserves to be at least in the top 10!

OH, MY GOD! I LOVE this song! Every time I listen to it on my laptop, I just wanna cry, until I fall asleep! It reminds me of a book I'm typing up. It's called "Night at the Museum : Broken Spirits and Aching Hearts". It's set after NATM2. This is where the cowboy Jedediah is dying of a terrible sickness. Octavius is sitting by his bedside, about to cry at any minute, and Jedediah tells him he always loved him like a big brother, and he forgave him for everything he had said and done to him. And when he asks Octavius to give him one last hug, and that Octavius does so, right away, in the blink of an eye, Jedediah closes his eyes, tells him he will always be his best friend, no matter what. Then, he dies. Now, as Octavius lays his friend back down on the bed, he lets a bunch of big tears spill down his face, and cries very hard. And, when Larry wraps his warm arms around him, and hugs him, gently, and that he starts to cry like an "I-don't-know-what", not that's where I hear that ...more

108 Monsoon - Tokio Hotel

Every time I hear it I have to cry because it's so awful

109 Sober - Tool

I love this song... BUT WHERE IS HURT BY NINE INCH NAILS! THAT SONG - no, THAT ENTIRE ALBUM IS BETTER THAN ALL THE CRAP ON THIS LIST! One of the darkest, most depressing albums I have ever heard... The way it ends with the blow your ears out "gunshot" and then the minute of static (representing death).

110 The Way We Were - Barbara Streisand

I know it's too old for most of you to have heard it or for it to come to mind immediately but if you have a serious interest in this list's concept you really should give this a listen.
"Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line...
What's too painful to remembers simply choose to forget..." - Billyv

111 Spanish Sahara - Foals
112 My Last Sunrise - Demons & Wizards
113 It's Been So Long - The Living Tombstone V 2 Comments
114 I Miss You So Much - TLC
115 It's Getting Better All the Time - Brooks & Dunn
116 Sleep Alone - Moby V 1 Comment
117 Titanium - David Guetta

Asia's voice is so whiny that it makes it sad. However, David Guetta's "mixing" of making the song cut in and out turns sadness into "what is wrong with my radio?! "

Underrated as HELL. Sia's downright best performance I've ever heard from her. I wouldn't exactly call it "sad", though...

118 I Believe - Blessed Union of Souls
119 November - Sadistik
120 Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father) - Lindsay Lohan

I don't care what haters say - this song is amazing. Not to mention realistic, emotional and touching. Lindsay Lohan wrote it and it only proves how deep & REAL this track is

Lohan is a bad role model. She made many mistakes but it doesn't mean we must diss everything she does. Sorry but this song should be in the Top 10! Definitely!

I'm amazed this is some of Lindsay Lohan's work. It's a beautiful, sad, yearning song that makes you want to reach out the girl who desires her fathers love. I'm not sure if it is a personal experience from Lohan's past or not, but either way, it's a haunting song that makes you love your father even more.

I was going to vote for another song but "Confessions of a Broken Heart... " is the best thing Lindsay Lohan did in her entire life so it gets my vote. Really fantastic track. Not to mention underrated - AtlasUniverse

Guys, put this AMAZING song higher! Yes, that's infamous Lindsay Lohan but the song itself is awesome. And realistic
