Top 10 Scariest Disney Characters

The Top Ten
1 Chernabog - Fantasia Chernabog is a Disney villain from the 1940s film Fantasia, and in his segment, "A Night on Bald Mountain".

He's so scary he'll scare half of your favorite Disney characters off!

Ok, I admit he's wickedly scary. Don't bother him. You know he's really the Devil!

2 The Horned King - The Black Cauldron
3 Judge Doom - Who Framed Roger Rabbit
4 The Queen Transformed - Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs

Just looking at her is freaky! The scene where she drinks the potion and makes the poisoned apple to give to Snow White always gave me chills.

The scene where her crow hides its head under a skull in fear upon seeing her as a hag speaks for itself.

5 The Wheelers - Return to Oz
6 The Headless Horseman - The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
7 Cruella De Vil - 101 Dalmatians Cruella de Vil is a fictional character who appeared in Dodie Smith's 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians, Disney's animated film adaptations 101 Dalmatians and 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, and Disney's live-action film adaptations 101 Dalmatians and 102 Dalmatians as the main... read more

She has an overall uncanny skeletal appearance, but her most terrifying moment is the shot with her murderous rage as she chases after Pongo, Perdita, and the titular 101 Dalmatian puppies in the film's climax.

8 Cave of Wonders - Aladdin

It's a giant tiger head in the sand who talks in a very frightening voice. If you're not worthy of entering the cave, he gobbles you up. Just ask Gazeem.

9 Hydra - Hercules
10 Simba - The Lion King Simba is a fictional character who appears in Disney's The Lion King franchise. Introduced in Walt Disney Animation's 32nd animated feature film The Lion King (1994), the character subsequently appears in its sequels The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (1998) and The Lion King 1½ (2004).

Keep in mind, Simba is not so scary normally, but in the scene when he exiles Kovu, he is not just scary, but even terrifying. So much so that I can hardly look at his face when he roars "EXILE!" If I can look at him at all during this scene. Also, his tone during Kovu's exile is so chilling. I do think Kovu may still have nightmares of his exile. Just imagine this from his (Kovu's) point of view.

How did he go from being so adorable as a cub to being scary as heck as an adult during Kovu's exile? To be honest, I have no idea. Needless to say, real lions are very dangerous.

The Contenders
11 Monstro - Pinocchio
12 Judge Frollo - The Hunchback of Notre Dame

From my probably favorite Disney movies, and a bit underrated, is Judge Claude Frollo. A man who commits genocide, abuses his own adoptive son, smiles while a person is screaming and crying in pain, sexually harasses Esmeralda, and brainwashes Quasimodo, keeping him in a cathedral for two decades. Quasimodo is a good person and has never gone out or disobeyed Frollo until recently in the movie. He's also brainwashing the people, all while believing he is doing it in the name of God. That's a recipe for a downright evil villain, and he has a nice voice to help persuade people. If this isn't scary, I don't know what is.

13 Maleficent - Sleeping Beauty Maleficent is the main antagonist of Disney's 1959 animated feature film Sleeping Beauty. An evil fairy, Maleficent is an incarnation of pure evil, and is responsible for all misfortune in King Stefan's kingdom.

She isn't called "The Mistress of All Evil" for nothing. She can look very scary in the climax of Sleeping Beauty, especially after she transforms into a dragon.

14 Ratigan - The Great Mouse Detective

He's utterly terrifying in the climax of the film, where he sheds his polite facade and reveals his true self as a savage rat.

Voiced by the awesome and legendary Vincent Price.

15 Shere Khan - The Jungle Book (2016)

Shere Khan from the 2016 live-action remake, voiced by Idris Elba, is even scarier than his animated counterpart.

Unlike his animated counterpart, this Shere Khan literally murders Akela onscreen and actively tries to kill Mowgli. His animated counterpart only appeared in the original film in the last third, and he and Mowgli only met in the climax.

Also, Idris Elba's voice alone makes him sound so scary and intimidating, but this just proves how talented Idris Elba is.

16 Percival C. McLeach - Rescuers Down Under
17 Scar - The Lion King Scar is the main antagonist of Disney's 1994 animated feature film, The Lion King. He was the second son of Ahadi and Uru — who were, at one time, King and Queen of the Pride Lands — the younger brother of Mufasa, and the uncle of Simba.
18 The Coachman - Pinocchio
19 Jangles The Clown - Inside Out
20 Quasimodo - The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
21 Sid Phillips - Toy Story Sid Phillips is a fictional character in the Toy Story franchise. He serves as the primary antagonist of the original Toy Story film.

Sid was one creepy kid, but he does make a huge change after the first movie, as we see when he makes a brief cameo in Toy Story 3.

22 Darla - Finding Nemo
23 King Andrias - Amphibia
24 Oogie Boogie - The Nightmare Before Christmas

Disgusting insides that talk and cry.

25 Emperor Belos - The Owl House
