1 Mayhem Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1984 in Oslo, regarded as one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene. The band is also known for the infamous events surrounding them including the 1991 suicide of vocalist Dead (in which former guitarist Euronymous took pictures of Dead's corpse and used one of them as the front cover for one of their live albums) and the 1993 murder of Euronymous by former member Varg Vikernes, of Burzum.

Mayhem with dead on vocals were terrifying.

4 Devourment Devourment is an American brutal/slam death metal band from Dallas, Texas. Formed in 1995, the band has split up and reformed three times and Brad Fincher is the only original member.

7 Marilyn Manson Marilyn Manson is an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Formed in 1989 by frontman Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz, the group was originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids with their theatrical performances gathering a local cult following in the early 1990s. The name of the band comes from famous sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and famous criminal Charles Manson. Manson joined these two names together because he wanted a name combined with good (Monroe) and evil (Manson). The other members of the band have their stage names combined with the first names of famous sex symbols and the last names of famous serial killers.

He may look scary but he doesn't sound scary (compared to real metal bands). And by the way I don't think he is metal.

8 Stalaggh & Gulaggh Stalaggh comes from the German word "Stalag" which was a concentration camp in Germany in World War II; the g and the h following after Stalag mean "global holocaust." The band consists of many top musicians from the Dutch and Belgian Black Metal/Industrial scene.

Can you even call what this band produces music? Can you even call them a band at all? Few things are more disturbing that taking the actual tormented screams of mental asylum patients, putting a disturbing album cover on it, and releasing it. If that's not scary enough, it's even been said that some of the patients engaged in self-harm during the recording, one man was being stabbed during the recording, and that one of the patients committed suicide soon after being recorded.

They might look and sound scary but after years of being a huge fan and seeing what these guys are like outside of their music, they don't belong on a list with bands like Gorgoroth and Mayhem (black metal bands) Slipknot in the Iowa days may have been quite scary though. Dudes were completely insane.
