The Twilight Zone is the standard with which all television horror must be judged against. It was filled with cautionary tales and frightening situations.

Before a clown with a balloon, a guy with a saw, and an animatronic bear, there was a narrator that started the horror genre.

Not really that scary, but a masterpiece that gets better with age.

2 The X-Files The X-Files is an American science fiction drama television series created by Chris Carter. The original television series aired from September 10, 1993, to May 19, 2002, on Fox.

It's just so good and can be one of the scariest things on TV. I love it to bits, better than Buffy, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and all that.

The truth is out there - and it just might scare the hell out of you. The X-Files did a great job of being a mystery and a fantastically scary show.

Such an iconic terrifying TV show, not to mention extremely disturbing. Love it.

3 American Horror Story American Horror Story is an American anthology horror television series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. Each season is conceived as a self-contained miniseries, following a different set of characters and settings, and a storyline with its own "beginning, middle, and end."

Ok, so Murder House was just good, nothing else, but Asylum and Coven have proven that AHS is a show that can shock even the most tame viewers. Asylum truly showed the show's potential off in a fantastically grim and unsettling manner, while Coven has brought back some of the sanity of Murder House while introducing us to some truly interesting characters with some horrible pasts. Amazing!

4 Masters of Horror
5 Tales from the Crypt
6 Are You Afraid of the Dark? Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a Canadian horror fantasy-themed anthology television series that was on YTV.

It was a show that first ran on Nickelodeon on Saturday nights. It was an anthology show that featured kids telling campfire tales as a framework for short scary stories. It was very much in the vein of Tales from the Crypt or the Twilight Zone, with a 90s, kid-friendly spin - but it still scared the hell out of us here at TV Jab when we were but wee lads.

7 Courage the Cowardly Dog Courage the Cowardly Dog is an American animated horror comedy television series created by John R. Dilworth for Cartoon Network as part of the network's Cartoon Cartoons block.

If you haven't seen this show as a kid, you might ask why it's on the list.

It doesn't matter this is a kid's cartoon. The list is provided for all shows.

8 Goosebumps Goosebumps is a Canadian-American horror anthology television series based on R. L. Stine's best-selling Goosebumps book series.
9 Millennium

Millennium followed a police consultant, Frank Black, with the skill of peering into a criminal's mind. The first season revolved around the pursuit of serial killers, but Season Two opened the scope up and introduced demonic forces into the mix.

My parents let me watch it when I was 10, but I didn't watch all of it, and that's probably good.
