Top 10 lesser known Sci-Fi/Fantasy Book Series

Most people don't know about these book series listed below. But sometimes when a book or book series is adapted into a movie/TV show/video game then it suddenly blows up in popularity (mainly because those three things I mentioned have a much bigger cultural impact than books do).

This list is for anyone who's interested in more obscure/underground stories that are speculative fiction. Feel free to check them out if you haven't ( and don't add a series that's already well known because of its adaptation. Also don't add a series that does have an adaptation but is still unknown, whether it be because the adaptation flopped or is just unknown in general. Thanks).
The Top Ten
1 The Wheel of Time Series - Robert Jordan

I've heard of the series thanks to Blind Guardian because they have several songs based on the books, but the most impressive song among them is perhaps Wheel of Time. Another song based on the series that I like is Ride Into Obsession.

2 Malazan Book of the Fallen - Steven Erikson
3 The Elric Saga - Michael Moorcock
4 Earthsea - Ursula Le Guin
5 The Kingkiller Chronicle - Patrick Rothfuss
6 Hyperion Cantos - Dan Simmons
7 Mars Trilogy - Kim Stanley Robinson
8 The Sword of Truth - Terry Goodkind
9 The Stormlight Archive - Brandon Sanderson

Many of the book series on this list are very good, however, I must mention that I'm not sure that the listed series here are very unknown, at least to readers of the genre. To a mainstream audience, most people who don't read fantasy at all probably would not know these books, but I think even casual readers of fantasy have heard of most of the listed books here, though maybe the list is intended to be lesser known book series to just the main population and not little known to fantasy readers, since many of these books seem to be staples of fantasy reading (such as Wheel of Time and A Wizard of Earthsea) and I see them mentioned quite frequently in any sort of fantasy list or discussion.

However, from all the series (and parts of series) from this list that I have gotten to read from are great and you definitely put together a good list of fantasy. Even though I don't consider Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive unknown in the least since he's become a quite popular ...more
