Top 10 World Series Contenders of 2019 After the Trade Deadline
There’s only two months left in the season and at this point we can narrow down who has the best shot at a World Series. Here’s who I believe will have the best chances to win the Fall ClassicHands Down Houston was the biggest winner of the deadline. They solidified their pitching rotation as the class of the MLB Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, and now Zack Greinkie. On top of that their lineup is one of the best in the league. I expect nothing less than an ALCS appearance at minimum.
The Dodgers had a pretty quite deadline with the only truly notable addition being Jedd Gyorko. However this is a team that arguably didn’t need to do much. They have a championship caliber roster with the likes of Clayton Kershaw, Cody Bellinger, and Cy Young award candidate Hyun-Jin Ryu. It’s almost now or never LA. Anything less than a World Series appearance and your season will be a failure
The Braves major weakness going into the deadline was their pitching and I feel like they did enough to fix it. They brought in Chris Martin, Mike Melancon and Shane Greene. They also got Dallas Keuchel earlier. This is a team that could be a tough out and can compete with the NL
The Yankees were pretty inactive at the deadline which isn’t necessarily bad but when you look at what Houston they bolstered their pitching and now look like legitimate contenders. The Yankees lack a reliable starting pitcher and will rely heavily on their bats. It’s still going to be an uphill battle
The Twins have slowed down since June when they were up by like 12 games over Cleveland and now they’re only up by like 3. If I were you I’d be panicking a little bit. Max Kepler, Nelson Cruz and Eddie Rosario are the key players keeping you alive right now. If they want to make the World Series they need to re- energize and get back to where they were at the beginning of the season
Already bought the World Series tickets WE ARE GOING TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP
The Rays got a nice acquisition in Jesus Aguilar and they didn’t give up too much either. Tampa is still in the hunt for a wild card spot. Assuming they get guys like Blake Snell, Tyler Glassnow, Brandon Lowe, and Kevin Kiermaier this team could be a dangerous sleeper pick
While not a World Series favorite the Cubs got some players who could help them make a playoff push and make noise in October. They got guys like Nicholas Castellanos, Tony Kemp, and David Phelps assuming Cole Hamels comes back and Craig Kimbrel can get on track the Cubs could be a threat
Could be a sleeper.
The Cardinals are right in the thick of the NL Central yet the deadline feels like a missed opportunity. The Cardinals really didn’t do anything to stand out from the crowd. The could have improved their pitching if they were looking to be a serious contender but didn’t
These guys could also be a sleeper.
The Indians were active at the deadline getting rid of Trevor Baur and his throwing balls over the Centerfield wall talent brought back a nice return of Yasiel Puig and Franmil Reyes. With Cleveland closing the gap in the central division considerably winning the division is not out of the question. They might not get to the World Series but they could make some noise
Washington had a decent deadline to improve their atrocious bullpen bringing in Daniel Hudson, Hunter Strickland and Roenis Elias. While this will help them potentially snag a Wild card berth I don’t see them going anywhere in the playoffs unless their starting rotation can keep intact
