Best Silly Symphonies
This short is sad, and the score made me cry, but its happy
Yeah... I really didn't have another choice for the top spot. This 8 minute cartoon is just as profound, beautiful, artistic, and meaningful as any of the features Disney has put out... It is a stunning testament to the beauty of nature, and in the animals inhabiting this old structure, a commentary on the importance of staying true to one's roots. Sure, 'Three Little Pigs' is the most popular, 'Music Land' is the most creative', 'Who Killed Cock Robin' is the riskiest, 'The Ugly Duckling' is the most emotional, 'Grasshopper and the Ants' is the funniest, 'Mother Goose Goes Hollywood' is the zaniest, and 'Wynken, Blynken and Nod' is the most lavish... But 'The Old Mill' remains the most beautiful, harmonious, and profound... A true masterpiece of animated filmmaking, that is still technically amazing and heartwrenching, 80 years later. Bravo, Mr. Disney. You have created a quiet, artistic gem.
