Top Ten Words Commonly Misspelled On TheTopTens

TheTopTens admins spend countless hours every day verifying items, lists, comments, and posts on the site. From checking spelling and grammar to making sure additions match the intended context of the lists and are factually accurate, a lot of work goes into making this site useful and correct.

From trolling and joking, to misspellings and grammatical errors, the administration staff often sees the same mistakes pop up across all areas of the site. Below are some of the most common misspellings that admins have to fix. These errors tend to be more than just an occasional typo and are often found multiple times on the same list or comment.

I'm specifically not referring to instances of you're, your, their, they're, there, etc because while those are all often incorrectly used, it's generally more of a grammatical error than a misspelling.
The Top Ten
1 Bieber (misspelled Beiber)

Here it is. The largest victim of misspelling. I've seen the nicknames of Justin Bieber come across in a hundred different versions, but nowhere is a word so misspelled as his actual last name. For the notoriety Bieber gets both worldwide and on TheTopTens, I would have thought people knew how to spell the thing they hate so much. Unless it's an intentional list of nicknames, let's just spell Justin Bieber's name right so we can tell who is being talked about.

This was an embarrassing mistake for me on my list of things you would do if you met Justin in person. But hey, I didn't look as stupid as the people repeating that same old joke.

Even Finch put a Justin Bieber item on #1! Haha

I'm not voting for this item as I don't care how it's spelled. This list is hypocritical. Whenever I submit a list with English spelled words; ie, "favour" or "realise" admin always corrects my spelling to the American way! Stop this! I'm English and I'll continue to spell in the TRADITIONAL English way.
Umm...that's all. Thank you.

2 Villain (misspelled Villian)

I would have assumed this word was just a case of speed typing and getting the letters swapped once in a while. Were it not for the sheer volume of instances where it appears on the site spelled wrong, we'd just chalk it up to the occasional typo. I'm not sure if there is a problem with the phonetics people are using to spell it out, or if everyone is making the same typo, but "villain" is a very common misspelling on TheTopTens.

3 Character (misspelled Carachter)

Video games, movies, T.V. shows, manga, fanfiction, etc. all are based on characters and the lists about them are some of the most prevalent on TheTopTens. "Character" is one of the most common words used on the site yet it gets misspelled a huge percentage of the time. This isn't a proper noun or unique name spelling, this is a common word in any English dictionary. Let's try just a little harder to get the common words spelled right.

This typo is the bane of my existence. Please, make it stop!

4 Reigns (misspelled Regins/Riegns)

Another WWE icon, Roman Reigns, is getting a disservice by his fans. Reigns is both his last name and a word with a common meaning. All the more reason to spell it right.

5 Minaj (misspelled Manaj)

As with other hated celebrities, Nicki Minaj gets thrown around enough times to be considered a household word. It's just 5 letters but they seem to get mixed up more than her popularity (or notoriety) would suggest is possible.

Sometimes I like to think this is intentional. Nicki did sing about sucking her diznik, and various other male sexual organ references in the first person weren't held back. Maybe she deserves to have her name misspelled.

I see this pretty often as well.

6 PositronWildhawk (misspelled PoistronWildhawk)

I know this one isn't in the dictionary, but there seems to be enough love going around for Positron that it's still surprising to see it spelled wrong by TopTenners.

If it's some kind of word, then it counts.

I've also seen a couple "PositrionWildhawk"'s

Also, Finch, the "h" ain't capital. HA.

I saw PositionWildhawk more than this though.

7 Lesnar (misspelled Lesner/Lesnor)

As in Brock Lesnar. Wrestling fans are some of the most die-hard fans around. That makes it all the more surprising to see a major WWE wrestler's name spelled wrong.

8 Zeppelin (misspelled Zepplin)

For all the "I love old bands because they are cool" sentiments, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are among the most-loved. That being said, Zeppelin gets misspelled a good chunk of the time among the devoted fan base. That's a tough one to see considering every web browser I've tried shows "Zepplin" spelled wrong with a red underline and a quick right-click will correct it for you.

9 Rapper (misspelled Raper)

While both options are technically words in their own right, this is a contextual misspelling that creeps in quite often. There is a big difference between calling someone a rap artist, versus a person who sexually assaults someone.

I really hope these people learn how to spell the professions of those autotune junkies whom they adore before they put it on their CV.

10 BKAllmighty (misspelled numerous ways)
The Contenders
11 Dragon Ball (misspelled Dragonball)

Yup, that's right. It's two separate and distinct words, not one compound word. While some wouldn't classify this as a "spelling error", I do because it's more than an occasional typo. It is often added multiple times to lists by the same persons. Just as you would not repeatedly use "computermouse" thinking it was one word, if you love the anime/manga/games enough to add it to lists, please realize it is 2 words and not one.

12 Leone (misspelled Lenoe)
13 Kiteretsunu (mispelled Kiterisunu)

This guy is a retired TopTenner. It was unfortunate that he left (at least, I belive he did). People constantly had trouble spelling his name. There are many more variations of the mispelling.

Yeah, I had trouble spelling his name for a long time.

14 Yeah (misplelled yaehh)

Even the word "misspelled" is misspelled.

15 Freddie (misspelled Freddy)
16 Turkeyasylum (misspelled Turkeyayslum)

Yeah, he himself misspelt his name on a list title.
