Creative comparing #2: Michael Jackson vs Freddie Mercury

Martinglez So i thought this would be a good idea, comparing the first and second singers in the thetoptens list about it. So here we go:

Music videos: Well this is pretty obvious. While Queen does have awesome videos (specially "I Want To Break Free" and "Bohemian Rhapsody") Michael is the king of music videos. Just any video by Michael will do to demonstrate my point: "Thriller", "Beat It", "Smooth Criminal", "Bad" and lots more. Point goes to Michael.
Michael: 1 Freddie: 0

Lyrics:Michael has great lyrics in his songs: "If you want to make the world a better place, just look at yourself and make that change" from Man in the Mirror, "There are people dying. If you care enough about the living, let's make a better place for you and for me" from Heal the World and "But you are not alone. For I am here with you. Though we're far apart, you're always in my heart" from You are not Alone are just three examples. His lyrics can make you feel any emotion, and can tell a story in a very short time. Queen also has great lyrics, and since we are focussing on Freddie, he alone has: "Don't stop me now, I'm having such a good time, I'm having a ball" from Don't Stop me Now, "Nothing really matters, anyone can see, nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me" from Bohemian Rhapsody and "But it's been no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise. I consider it a challenge before the whole human race, and I ain't gonna lose" from We are the Champions. Freddie's lyrics are more powerful than Michael's in my opinion, so point goes to Freddie.
Michael: 1 Freddie: 1

Personality: Michael's personality in music videos varies greatly from a strong man who's not afraid to fight to a man who just wants peace in the world. Freddie's personality does the same, and is specially demonstrated in Bohemian Rhapsody. This is a hard one, i just can'tell decide. It's a tie.
Michael: 1,5 Freddie: 1,5

Power: The power that these 2 artists have, even alfter death, is astonishing. You can safely say that both have changed the music industry for ever. But this point goes to Michael, since without him things would be very diferent. He was a giant game changer in the music industry, and while Freddie also was, not to the extent of Michael. Point goes to Michael.
Michael: 2,5 Freddie: 1,5

Quality of music: Both artists have done great music. Michael has made songs like "Smooth Criminal", "Billie Jean" and "Beat it". But Freddie has made insanly great songs which include "Don't Stop me Now", "I Want To Break Free" and the song that is arguably the best song of all time "Bohemian Rhapsody". The winner is Freddie.
Michael: 2,5 Freddie: 2,5

TIEBREAKER: Martinglez's opinion.
I think that, while Michael is awesome, Freddie deserves the victory of this Creative Comparing.

Winner is: Freddie Mercury

What do you think? Who is better? Be sure to tell me below. And remember, you can suggest the next comparing.

Dang. I prefer Michael but this was awesome. - WonkeyDude98

Thanks - Martinglez

I prefer Freddie and Queen.

Persona:

Michael Jackson, for me, had a worse personality than Mercury. He was involved with plenty of different scandals and mishaps, and he held his son over a balcony. Crazy much?

Freddie was a wonderful man. His personality was just beautifully and he was one of the kindest men you could meet. He cared about everyone and wouldn't be afraid to help someone in need. He may have been shy (but not during performances), but dammit! He was a great guy!

Music Videos:

This was a tough one. I Want to Break Free, Bohemian Rhapsody, Radio Ga Ga, Innuendo, and I Want It All are some of my favorite music videos of all time. Michael probably wins this one, though. His videos are more well known and more creative. Although I Want to Break Free is my favorite music video ever (next to November Rain), Michael wins.

Power:

Easily Freddie. He produced so much emotion out of his songwriting and almost all of his songs leave me and millions of others in tears. In 92, everyone was completely shocked that he passed. Same in 09, but I feel like Queen and Freddie have inspired more vocalists and musicians.

Songwriting:

I don't even have to think about this one: FREDDIE. Creative, stunning, and just out of this world. I don't think I've seen anything like it! - MontyPython

Good point - Martinglez

Ever watched the Lion King? The bit where Simba is held over the cliff with thousands of animals cheering? EXACTLY the same thing in MJ's case. There were thousands of fans screaming for Michael to show them his baby. He resisted for over 5 mins of their screaming but eventually showed them and when he did, the scum in he media made a huge deal of it like they always do with their vain attempts to de-thone the King - Michael Jackson - IIBK

Also, you think Freddie was 'shy' and 'kind' Have you seen Michael Jackson? He was the definition of those words. MJ was also the most charitable artists and celebrity OF ALL TIME with over $350MILLION to charities across the globe - IIBK

People believe Mercury was a nice and gentle person. Yes, in interviews and on the telly. But believe me, he was a dominant and rude person. Not a nice person at all. - SintJohn

Good review - bobbythebrony

Thanks! - Martinglez

Nice one! You can’t really compare much between those two. - visitor

Thanks. They are both legendary. - Martinglez

For me Michael is the best.. And I'm not sure about this but freddy mercury was not a solo artist, michael was and I think you can't compare a band to a solo artist.. But however Michael was /is more influential and more creative and revolutionary.. That's my opinion.. - Michaelthebest

I feel like this account was created just to make this comment. - visitor

Also, Michael is fine, but I think someone who mixed opera and rock is more creative - visitor

Freddie Mercury is also a solo artist and Michael Jackson was a member of a band, Jackson 5. - visitor

The opening lyrics to Bohemian rhapsody are the greatest lyrics of all time - MrQuaz680

I agree that Freddie's better, but Michael did'nt have a good personality at all. Good music, but bad personality. - RalphBob

*didn't - RalphBob

People worship mj like a god since he died but not Freddie. Everyone I know seems to think mj is god because he was died and they were to young to rememebrr. - visitor

No, I think MJ deserves winning this one - Righteous

Michael Jackson for the dance and Freddie for the vocal.(I think) - zxm

Wow. This is a tough comparison because their genres and performance styles are so different. There are times when I prefer Freddie's voice over MJ's and others when I prefer the opposite. For the second time, I can't choose. - TechnoTarantino

I'll say Freddie I am not a fan of pop. - visitor

Honestly, Jackson music wise, Mercury person wise (homophobes will kill me tonight) - ProPanda

Music wise, person wise? - visitor

Panda, he was bi-sexual, not gay. - visitor

This is so obviusly one of the answers that this list is unfair. Freddie Mercury. - visitor

Freddie Mercury. - visitor

Michael Jackson - visitor

I prefer Freddy. - Skullkid755

I prefer the Michael Jackson, KING OF MUSIC! - micahisthebest

My only disagreement in this is in the power section. I think in songs such as The Show Must Go On Freddie outperforms all of Michael’s songs in terms of power - Camlam153

Freddie Mercury wins by a gazillion glory miles in ALL categories. - marmaduke100

Michael Jackson is better, but Freddy Mercury is great too. Great post by the way - BorisRule

Great idea! Freddie is my favorite, so in happy with the result. - TheHabsFan
