Best Singers of All Time

The Contenders: Page 5

81 Hayley Williams Hayley Williams Hayley Nichole Williams is an American singer, songwriter and musician. She is best known as the lead vocalist, occasional keyboardist and primary songwriter of the American rock band Paramore.

Duh. Hayley. She shouldn't be top 100, she should be top 20. Okay, so her voice, compared to others is THAT good, but you have to understand she has no head voice. Which is a disadvantage to her. However, she can still sing as well and even better than most of the singers out there. Although one's voice might be important, it is also crucial that you have really good stamina to sing. Hayley has both of them. She runs while singing all of Paramore's songs and she is always able to sing well even after running around the stage or even headbanging. I mean, THAT uses a lot of energy. But she still can sing. SO WHY IS SHE PUT SO LOW, WHEN HER VOICE IS SIMPLY BRILLIANT? I'm confused, really.

Hayley does have a head voice. She usually belts the high notes though, instead - jaxie

Number 109? Surely the world has gone mad!

Her vocals are amazing and so are Paramore - she should definitely be in a much, much higher position than this. I mean, Justin Bieber above the amazing, inspirational Miss Williams? Come on! What is going through your minds, people.

Paramore's live performances are among the best, full of energy and excitement! She knows how to get the crowd going!

my hayley! you are the best singer of all time! at least she should be near Amy Lee! or in the top 100!

Hayley is a great vocalist. There really isn't much more to say.

82 Adam Lambert Adam Lambert Adam Mitchel Lambert is an American singer, songwriter and stage actor. Since 2009, he has sold over 2.5 million albums and 5 million singles worldwide.

Adam lambert is the best of the best. Why he is 218? He can sing opera and rock and blues and pop. He can sing! He always promotes others as the best, but he is the best. He just don't see that. Some day I hope everyone will see this! He is the Best of the best. This is the One. He is the Living #ONE. Thank you

Most Phenomenal Voice since Freddie Mercury. Incomparable! Best singer in the music biz TODAY! Asked by Brian May & Roger Taylor of QUEEN to perform with them at the MTV EMA's... The crowd went WILD!

Incredibly singer. Super Sexy. Has an new album named Trespassing coming out in February or March of 2012. - Glambertfan20

Oh how I love his voice, and his song.
I love his cover of Sway, and the best if Save The Last Dance For Me.
Lovely.

Umm Michael buble has at least to get top 20 come on his voice is pure gold and he definitely beats Justin Bieber by a long shot.

No offense meant but don't say a word another about Tay Tay and Michael deserves it

84 Ray Charles Ray Charles Raymond Charles Robinson, professionally known as Ray Charles, was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and composer.

COME ON! For god's sake, Demi Lovato is ahead of him! Great singer, piano-player and one of the most infuential artists of the 20th century.R.I. P! - GuitarZero

How is ray not on top?!? He is the best musician and singer of all time! He invented soul and was considered THE genius of show business. And being behind Corey Taylor makes me want to throw up.

Why is Ray so low on this list, although people like Ariana grande and Demi Lovato are not bad Ray Charles is one of the most influential artists of all time. I understand how people have their own opinions and stuff but do people not understand that Ray is a genius?

Ray should be way higher

85 David Draiman David Draiman David Michael Draiman is an American songwriter and the vocalist for the band Disturbed as well as for the band Device.

Wow how is he so low... He should be top ten... He actually sings about real things and come on an get up and get down with the sickness

Davids scream makes me having goose bumps. Great voice and great songs from Disturbed.

Draiman have very clear and strong voice and I thought he will be in the top 15 but of course pop-stars must be higher. It's just hall of fame list

He knows how the get a tired and drunk crowd active again within 2 minuts

86 Otis Redding Otis Redding Otis Ray Redding, Jr. was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, arranger, and talent scout.

Otis should be much, much higher on this list. He could convey feeling in a song and touch the listener like no singer that I know. Songs like "Try a Little Tenderness" and "I've Been Loving You Too Long" are phenomenal to say the least. Otis graced us for a very short period of time but left an incredible legacy of great recordings.

An amazing soul singer, with unrivalled depth and range. Managed to make any song soulful and meaningful - case in point, his cover of Sam Cooke's "Cupid".

Absolutely ridiculous that such a raw talent is so low on this list. One of the greatest singers of all time.

I have Otis Redding at #1 on my list, and I may be underrating him a little.

87 Billy Joel Billy Joel

Billy Joel used to be so popular. He had a beautiful voice, could go high could go low, he could sound like anything. He also had such a natural sense for the music, I remember him just closing his eyes and humming to the beat. Billy Joel created some of the most moving songs that were all- time favorites just two or three decades ago (Piano Man, This is the Time, River of Dreams, Innocent Man, etc). It's pretty sad to see him being lapped by the obnoxious sounding fake singers of our generation, and the rap machines who have no sound. Billy Joel is a legend of music. He deserves better than this.

I just went through this list, and I have to ask you all a question. Are you all stoned or just stupid? This man has some of the best songs over the past 30 years. When I saw some of the people ahead of him, I started to wonder about the idiots who come on this site. Most of them should be wearing a helmet so they don't get hurt. - RdrTech

How is he not higher? What kind of idiots vote on this sight? Good lord, some of the people that top this list are just awful. There are very few artists who had/have more talent than Billy Joel and Elton John. Both of them need to be higher on this list, and it is just sad that they aren't.

WHY THE HECK IS BILLY JOEL PLACED IN NUMBER 96!? HE IS THE BEST MALE SINGER EVER. LISTEN TO PIANO MAN AND NEW YORK STATE OF MIND. SHOULD BE PUT BEFORE ELTON JOHN!

88 Myles Kennedy Myles Kennedy Myles Richard Kennedy is an American musician, singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Alter Bridge, and as the lead vocalist in Slash's current band: Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.

84? Are you kidding? Eminem? JUSTIN BIEBER? OMG Guys... The world falls to pieces... Who can vote Justin Bieber more than Myles Kennedy? Bah...

I have to say that I'm not exactly a fan of Myles Kennedy's voice, I'm not a fan of AB either, but it's impossible to deny what a great singer he is. He truly has an impressive vocal range, making it some times hard to believe it's the same person singing a whole song with parts where he sounds so different. Live he's outstanding, giving, most of the times, almost perfect or even perfect performances which are charged with emotion. I just had to vote for him.

Myles musical ability far outmatches anyone on this list. You cannot even compare these people to him.

I love this man! and I'm listening to his voice right to this moment I'm typing this! he is such a awesome person and singer! get him to place one! - Dange_Strings

89 David Gilmour David Gilmour David Jon Gilmour is an English singer, songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He joined the progressive rock band Pink Floyd as guitarist and co-lead vocalist in 1968.

Come on people he is way better then some of the pop singers given above just check his skill, save voice when he was 20 and now way above 60. God gifted guitarist soulful singer I was surprised how he was not on the list let alone below some very people he inspired. Take my advice listen to On an island on YouTube you will thank me...

The best song writer and someone who understands the feel of the music

I am insulted that he is lower than artists like Drake and Lil Wayne. 116 yet Pink Floyd are the 7th highest selling band in history. His lyrics in Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb are flawless. Sure Rodger was the mind behind the prime of Pink Floyd but Gilmour was the man who could perform those songs like no other.

90 Meat Loaf Meat Loaf Michael Lee Aday is an American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor usually known by his stage name Meat Loaf.

Meat has a wonderful voice, sings with passion, has a charismatic presence on stage, still packs arenas after more than 35 years, yet still has humility and is unfailingly gracious to his fans. Puts him at number 1 for me.

Meat Loaf is WAY too low on this list. In fact, there are way too many phenomenal singers too low, this list is terrible. - BraveNewWorld

The power shown in "Bat out of Hell" contrasted with his perfect control in "I'd Do Anything For Love" puts him above everyone else for me.

He's a bit too much for me, theatralic and pretentious but the guy has tongue in cheek, seemes genuinely nice and he also has a great voice love him in 12 monkeys lol - ChatonNoir

His so... AMAZING. AMAZING VOICE. AMAZING BAND. AMAZING MAN. AMAZING MUSICIAN. I can't describe how I love him. My Chemical Romance would never be the same without him. He's one of the best singers I've ever known. GO GEE!

Hey! What's up w/ this list! Gerard should be higher than 56. THIS IS so WRONG!

Gerard Way is possibly the best singer ever. My Chemical Romance is the best band ever and he should totally be higher!

No offense to my friend Gerard, but his voice was not that great, it was the training he had thanks to his grandmother, and how he just went for it that made him work as a singer. (May death never stop you Gerard, and may the Black Parade you lead lead you to eternal rest when that day comes) #NadaStudios - JohnNeclario

92 James Brown James Brown

Seriously? #152? Wow, all of you britany spears and lady gaga fanboys/girls need to get your heads out of the proverbial arse of the modern music industry and become enlightened to the king of soul! This may be a bit of a culture shock to you, due to the gaping chasm of class seperating so-called "singers" and true musicians being so unfathomably wide that I weep at the very thought of how they are recognised as todays greats. Classics such as "mans world" are both beautiful and poignent, sending chills to my very core. With such a mastery of tone and pitch, added with iconic performances and personna, I can only hope his music can still thrive amongst the garbage of today.

James Brown was a great singer for Motown. Michael Jackson thought of him as a role model. I can tell because Michael went to his funeral. Now both of them are in heaven, resting peacefully with God.

If it wasn't for this legend, there would be no, and I mean NO michael jackson. Michael jackson is my favorite singer but I have to thank James brown for this reason

Rolling Stone had this man in their top 10 singers of all time and on this list is further down than Haley Williams and Carrie Underwood this is HILARIOUS and I believe the man THAT INFLUENCED THE NUMBER 1 ON THE LIST IS 98

94 Morten Harket Morten Harket Morten Harket is a Norwegian musician, best known as the lead singer of the synthpop/rock band A-ha, which released ten studio albums and topped the charts internationally after their breakthrough hit "Take on Me" in 1985.

Truly one of the most beautiful and unique voices in the world. No-one holds a candle to Morten Harket. Not now, not ever.

A truly gift from God, no one can sing like him, the tone of voice is beautiful, when He sings He touches your soul, unforgettable, magical, you can feel passion in His voice, once you will listen to Him you cannot stop, the one and only!

Five octave range with soaring, emotional vocals that touch your soul -- how is this even contested?

It is truly pathetic that this incredibly talented individual is all the way down here on this list, but unfortunately also understandable. He, like many other talented musicians from outside of the US were cut off from the mainstream media in North America apart from maybe one song. Seeing A-Ha and other great bands being put in One Hit Wonder lists on ridiculous T.V. shows is extremely unfair and misleading, implying that the only place where fame is allowed to be measured and to be important is the "grand ol' US of A". It would also be nice to see Alison Moyet somewhere up here too, but of course she is too far removed from mainstream, modern US culture that nobody knows who she is now. This list isn't a representation of talent, but more of a representation of who sold the most records thanks to their fantastic PR teams and management. A-Ha had many other popular songs outside of the US. The clarity and range of Morten Harket's voice is truly remarkable and whatever your ...more

95 Ella Fitzgerald Ella Fitzgerald Ella Jane Fitzgerald was an American jazz singer often referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz and Lady Ella.

Oh my gosh. This is ridiculous. On what planet are Drake, Eminem, Jennifer Lopez, Justin BEIBER, AND NICKI MINAJ better than ELLA FITGERALD!? Her voice was liquid gold and her range was far better than any modern pop singer. All you have to be able to do as a pop singer is not be tone deaf, and they can auto tune the rest. Rappers just have to be able to talk fast, and this list is for the best SINGERS of all time. Come on guys.

I think a lot of people here are too young,.. Maybe they don't even know who she is... - ChatonNoir

now i can see that here votes people with no idea of music
ella rocks

A voice of pure gold, should be up in the top ten.

One of the best singers of all time. Has a voice like silk

Simply the most unique voice of all time. There is so much passion in his voice. His voice is like no other before or since. How can anybody take this list seriously when you have Rhydian at number three?

Morrissey: his solo stuff isn't the best but the work in the Smiths was brilliant!

How is he not higher, chris Martin beat him CHRIS MARTIN

97 Billie Holiday Billie Holiday Eleanora Fagan, professionally known as Billie Holiday, was an American jazz musician and singer-songwriter with a career spanning nearly thirty years.

Before I start this I would like to mention the fact that someone's favourite singer is subjective, however a "best" singer is decided by in my opinion, innovation and talent.

Alright here is what really grinds my gears, so many talentless "singers" are ahead of one of the most talented Jazz singers period. Nicki Minjaj? Madonna? Chris Brown? Rihanna? Arianna Grande? I could on for days but I think you get the point. Even two of my favourite singers on Bob Dylan and Thom Yorke are above Billie and even that upsets me. Why?

Billie Holidays ability to interpret songs and manipulate them into the most honest sounding and personal songs ever is completely undervalued on this list. Listen to songs like I'm a Fool to Want You or I Get Along Without You Very Well and you will understand what I saying.

Another one of Holidays strengths was her ability to adapt to her changes in voice. It's clear that there is a decline in power in her vocals from her ...more

I highly recommend her to you the precursor of all soul sisters

This list is messed up. Billie Holiday sang from the heart and added her own take on every song she sang. She should be in the top 20 at the least.

A voice that can spellbound you. Wonderful sad songs... Predecessor to a lot of soul singers - ChatonNoir

I am shocked where Jeff is, he is clearly one of the greatest singers of all time. I would say No. 1
His voice was so powerful and full of emotion and also had and unbelievable range. This is someone withoiut vocal training like most the fake people on this list. It doesn't matter how many records these people sold! its how beautiful the music and lyrics are. Jeff should at least be in the top 10... - Adam0209M

All you people should be ashamed of yourselves to not have Jeff Buckley even in the top 10. No-one has a better, more beautiful voice than Jeff and he should definitely be No. 1

Undoubtedly the best ever - would have been should have been a global superstar had he lived, His legacy albeit brief contains everything and more in musical genres and styles -far more than any other singer check it out -blues, jazz, punk, rock, chanteuse, qawwali, folk, indie, grunge, opera, hymnal poetry...

Come on people. KATY PERRY AND MADONNA ARE IN THE TOP 10 AND BUCKLEY IS NUMBER 97? Yeah all my faith in humanity is gone.

Singer of Shinedown.
One of the most unique and powerful voices in rock history.
One of the most passionate singers I have ever seen or heard.
An incredible songwriter and source of inspiration.
Immensely talented with the microphone and a great person all in all.

Brent is the best by far! Check out any Shinedown album and judge for yourself!

His voice range is amazing but he's not very widely recognized. If anyone reads this check out Smith & Meyers so you can hear some of his amazing covers.
