Best Singers of All Time

The Contenders: Page 6

101 Ray Charles Ray Charles Raymond Charles Robinson, professionally known as Ray Charles, was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and composer.

COME ON! For god's sake, Demi Lovato is ahead of him! Great singer, piano-player and one of the most infuential artists of the 20th century.R.I. P! - GuitarZero

How is ray not on top?!? He is the best musician and singer of all time! He invented soul and was considered THE genius of show business. And being behind Corey Taylor makes me want to throw up.

Why is Ray so low on this list, although people like Ariana grande and Demi Lovato are not bad Ray Charles is one of the most influential artists of all time. I understand how people have their own opinions and stuff but do people not understand that Ray is a genius?

How in the hell is Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and all those singers above this guy. - venomouskillingmachine

102 George Harrison George Harrison George Harrison was an English guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music and film producer who achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of the Beatles.

Ever listen to ANY Beatles album? He writes and sings two songs on every one of them. They are almost always the most beautiful. The arguably MOST FAMOUS Beatles song is Here Comes The Sun. And it is incredibly beautiful. Guess who wrote and sang it? Not John or Paul. George. He is my favorite Beatle. He sat quietly in the background, doing what John and Paul told him to, writing his own music, and hoping they would approve. John and Paul basically treated him like dirt. One day, George was playing guitar, and Paul kept telling him he was doing it wrong, and kept taking it and showing him the correct way. George had had enough. He threw down the guitar, and stormed out.
This was completely just. Everyone thinks that John and Paul are the best songwriters of all time, but they learned from George. They are up in the top ten, so George definitely deserves to be as well. But here he is, down at 134.

Insane. Please vote for a true talent, that deserves to be higher than John and ...more

What a minute, what is George Harrison doing at 132 place? And why is Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga higher than him?

George was in the Beatles. A legendary group. And if you look at Nicki Minaj, she's a disgrace in music and to Trnidad!

All in all, George should be at least in the top 10. - BubbleBear01

George was the true talent. Everyone was fighting in the Beatles but George was just trying to find peace. Hare krishna RIP

Overshadowed member, died second. He was great, but Paul was better - Lucretia

104 David Lee Roth David Lee Roth David Lee Roth is an American rock vocalist, songwriter, actor, author, and former radio personality.

David Lee Roth sang with such spirit, and such personality, but GOOD personality, not like the vulgar, Michael Jackson. Roth should be #1 you guys! - jhismyname

He was a great singer with a great solo career nut his voice isn't what it used to be.

Roth is by far the most expressive and excitable man here... Michael jackson isn't half as good as roth!

Very good, Van Halen is sort of average though - Lucretia

106 Benjamin Burnley Benjamin Burnley Benjamin Jackson Burnley IV is an American musician, composer, and producer, best known as the founder and frontman of the American rock band Breaking Benjamin.

Can't beat him. No one knows him so therefore he's this far down on the list. Don't let metal suffocate in pop and hip-hop, and look up Breaking Benjamin in your spare time. - Giusti97

In my mind, Ben one of my favorite male singers, along with Roy Khan. Both are fantastic singers, with powerful, beautiful voices. It doesn't hurt that they both sing with phenomenal bands, and some of the best songs I've ever heard. (For the record, Breaking Benjamin is my favorite band, and Simone Simmons is my favorite singer of all time -- I don't see her on this list, though).

Hands down, my personal favorite of this list so far. I've gone out of my way to be a die-hard breaking benjamin fan. His songs are just epic. My favorite heavy songs are "I Will Not Bow" and "Had Enough", while Burnley is able to slow things down with "Forget It" and "Rain". He is incredibly, ridiculously underrated and tied for my fave singer of all time with Shaun Morgan.

He is legendary : )

He has done amazing parodies of many of the best singers. He can so any style he wants, from girly to 80's to rock to rap

I went to his concert also.
"hardware store" is AWESOME! - anonymous

Born in Ridgecrest, California, Hoppus spent his childhood moving back and forth between his mother and father's ...read more.

Being the bass player/co-vocalist of blink-182 and now +44 he has bought a nice reputation for himself. A decent bass player but unbelivable singer. Goes for clean, pure low notes (listen to Little Death by +44) to mind-boggling highs (listen to Chapter 13 by +44) He a singer any band would want.

You'll know Mark Hoppus as the the singer of his primary band blink-182 and his side project 44. He has got lower baritone voice and a great vocal range, especially if you listen to 44, which is his best work to date. He plays bass too, and occasionally guitar. He is also pretty decent live.

a total legend on the bass and can sing well to you don't realise how hard it is untill you sing some of their songs

One of the most talented human beings

110 Phil Collins Phil Collins Philip David Charles "Phil" Collins is an English singer-songwriter and musician, who has also worked as a record producer and actor.

Phil Collins voice is distinctive and makes me stop to just listen. His style was always first class and he brought Genesis a long way. (My opinion. ) On his own, he is still top notch. But he is only this far down on the list because most of the voters are teeny boppers who don't know what a good voice and music are about.

Why is Phil so low on the list? He is an amazing singer. But of course, most of the voters here are just dumb teens who think that Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus are the best. Phil Collins' songs are great and truly inspiring, and several of my favorite songs come from him. With great hits such as "In The Air Tonight", "Against All Odds" or "Another Day In Paradise", how can he be so low on this list? I swear, if we removed the teen voters on this list, he would be on top 10. People now just don't recognize a good voice when they hear it.

People always lamented Gabriel's departure from Genesis in '75. Ironically, the band would be at it's greatest pinnacle of success with Mr Collins at it's helm. His voice is so badass, so awesome and yet so relaxing. It was Collins that made Genesis my favourite band, in the words of Patrick Bateman before Collins their work was 'too artsy, too intellectual'. As much as their are some classics in the early works like 'Supper's Ready', being the lead singer on the greatest concept album of all time, being 'Duke' made me an undeniable fan. Although, 'Face Value' is his only good solo album in my view, Genesis would have undeniably eventually waned out, if Peter Gabriel had just stayed on. Maybe I am too opinionated, but I think Phil Collins is an awesome singer when compared to Peter Gabriel, whom I find both have incredible vocal talents but yet are so different. Phil is the man, Phil is the bomb and it is a disgrace that there are so many Beliebers on this list.

He has an one of a kind voice. You can't listen to him and not no who he is.

111 Ryan Tedder Ryan Tedder

Ryan Tedder should definitely be higher on the list! He is an amazing person and a really, really talented person. He writes songs almost everyone in the music business. He has a beatiful voice and should be recognized more for that! Ryan tedder is the best musician out in the music business right now.

One Republic is one of my favorite bands because of the variety and musical significance. Ryan Tedder can hit some really high notes and obviously has some skill when it comes to singing.

Ryan deserves to be higher on this list, top one hundred in my opinion. If you've ever seen these guys live you'll know why I have this opinion. Ryan can reproduce the same cd/vocal performance live! That's what matters! Antoher awesome thing about Ryan is he is a producer and writes music for other popular artist on this list like adele.

Why is he so under rated?

WHAT IS SHE DOING HERE? Please people! I really love her, and it breaks my heart that she is so low, even lower than singers that people don't even know of nowadays she's really famous! Songs like on my mind, and love me like you do, and burn, are totally amazing, and will get you to vote for her. If you are generous, please vote! I beg you!

Ellie Goulding is an amazing singer, why is she this low on the list?

One of the greatest! Love her voice so very much! Such a talented and gifted singer. You will always be my favorite singer. Her music is really inspirational. Please vote for her.

113 Jessie J Jessie J Jessica Ellen Cornish, better known by her stage name Jessie J, is an English singer and songwriter. Born and raised in London, she began her career on stage, aged 11, with a role in the West End musical Whistle Down the Wind.

Has a beautiful tone of voice, as well as an amazing control and technique. Above all she has, in my opinion, one of the best emotional connection to the song; when she sings you can feel her soul pour out. She as well has a marvelous stage presence. Although she does have her fun and playful songs like Bang Bang(which I don't have anything against), she also has deeply emotional songs with beautiful messages like Stand Up or even Price Tag. Yet through all her success she manages to remain humble and down to earth.

There are a lot of people missing from this list. I think Jessie J is one of the biggest ones. She has such amazing control of her voice. It's crazy.

WHY? Of all time? Jessie J should AT LEAST be in the top 200. She may have only released 1 album, but that was one of the BEST albums of 2011. She has a wide range of music styles from pop to urban to a bit of reggae. AMAZING and UNIQUE voice live and in my opinion the BEST British female singer since Amy Winehouse.

Ohh no. Her songs are not cool

117 Andy Biersack Andy Biersack

GAAHH! Sexy voice, sexy face, and no matter how much hate he gets, he pushes through it and writes another masterpiece like Knives and Pens

He is such a great singer, it's disappointing to see that he is #168 and just barely beat Ashley Tisdale

It's disappointing that he's so low, but I love his voice (in fact, I'm listening to him now) and he is a kind, loving person. - ArtyLily

Andrew Dennis Beirsack is the best and deserves higher than 119.

118 Damon Albarn Damon Albarn

Damon is incredibly talented and underrated. He is the creative genius behind three bands, a soundtrack writer for a movie, and his own solo work. He has an incredible voice and vocal range, its truly a shame he's behind pop singers who take no thought in writing meaningless lyrics and sound the same on every song just because its in current style, and the likes of singers like nikki minaj who rely on sex appeal for popularity.

An awesome and sometimes soothing singing voice. Love the songs mainly for Gorillaz, but still he is great with Blur. So far one of my favorite rockstars of all time.

Should be in top 50 at least

181, what?! I love him in Gorillaz

119 Anthony Kiedis Anthony Kiedis Anthony Kiedis is an American singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers, which he has fronted since its inception in 1983.

A! red hot chilli peppers is the best! I was at their concert last month and it was awesome! ALL YOU Bieber FANS AND Bieber GO TO HELL!

He's great I can't believe he's in the 60's TOP 10 BABY! I love his songs like dosed and under the bridge and don't even get me started on scar tissue. This guy is a singing god and deserves to be past all those random singers I've never heard of!

Just to say something to what the last person said; Anthony is not the only original member Flea is too.

Even though I'm a huge fan of his and the band, I will admit he was not the best singer when the Peppers started out, but he has evolved and he is amazing. He also performs like no one on stage, with the movements and dancing.Plus he exerts so much energy and passion when he sings.

116 IS COMPLETE BULL. THE MAN CAN GO FROM SINGING HARD ROCK, FUNK, RAP, AND THEN GO TO SOFT SWEET SONGS ABOUT HIS FAMILY AND HILLEL.

120 Mike Patton Mike Patton Michael Allan "Mike" Patton is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, film composer, producer, and actor, best known as the lead singer of the alternative metal band Faith No More.

in terms of vocal range and the abilities this guy has, patton ***** on a good amount of the people on this list.. his side projects and voice overs are unbelievable, his work is huge in europe and some other random places but the US is infatuated with the constant stream of crap coming through radio/tv and never really grew to accept his stuff.. patton and everything he touches, he always seems to collaborate with amazing musicians, pushes boundaries and helps evolution of the music industry and hopefully he'll get the recognition he deserves in his lifetime... listen to "edge of the world" by faith no more and then listen to "god hates a coward" by tomahawk and you'll see what I'm tryin to say..

I can't believe I have to add Patton to this blasphemous list. Consider the evidence:

1) Scientifically, Patton has the widest vocal range of any pop singer alive at a full six octaves (plus a half-note).

2) His vocal range notwithstanding, his vocal versatility is also second to none. Name another singer who has recorded successful releases in metal, rock, pop, avant-garde, rap, lounge, improvisational, and of course Italian oldies form the 50's and 60's. Heck, he even voiced the creature sounds from the Will Smith film I Am Legend as well as a variety of video games including Portal and Left 4 Dead. The guy can do anything!

Though recently his voice has been a bit shot due to poor technique (at least going by professional videos from the Sol Invictus tour), he still sounds a lot better than most singers out there, mainly due to his ridiculous versatility and his amazing awareness of his own vocal strengths and weaknesses. At his peak in the late nineties and early aughts, he was the best male vocalist around. Honestly, there are few male singers I could accept ranking higher than him...I can only think of Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury to be honest. To me, however, he is the absolute best, with an ability to be completely diverse in style yet still incredibly recognizable. His voice on Mr. Bungle's California is one of my all-time favorite vocal performances, and in general an album I highly recommend for anyone unfamiliar with his music, or with anything he's done outside of FNM.

Apparently performing in two godawful bands and ripping off Anthony Kiedis in order to get a Top 10 Hit makes you a good singer. - phillysports
