Best Singers of All Time

The Contenders: Page 7

121 Jessie J Jessie J Jessica Ellen Cornish, better known by her stage name Jessie J, is an English singer and songwriter. Born and raised in London, she began her career on stage, aged 11, with a role in the West End musical Whistle Down the Wind.

Has a beautiful tone of voice, as well as an amazing control and technique. Above all she has, in my opinion, one of the best emotional connection to the song; when she sings you can feel her soul pour out. She as well has a marvelous stage presence. Although she does have her fun and playful songs like Bang Bang(which I don't have anything against), she also has deeply emotional songs with beautiful messages like Stand Up or even Price Tag. Yet through all her success she manages to remain humble and down to earth.

There are a lot of people missing from this list. I think Jessie J is one of the biggest ones. She has such amazing control of her voice. It's crazy.

WHY? Of all time? Jessie J should AT LEAST be in the top 200. She may have only released 1 album, but that was one of the BEST albums of 2011. She has a wide range of music styles from pop to urban to a bit of reggae. AMAZING and UNIQUE voice live and in my opinion the BEST British female singer since Amy Winehouse.

Ohh no. Her songs are not cool

123 Ian Gillan Ian Gillan Ian Gillan is an English singer and songwriter. He originally found success as the lead singer and lyricist for Deep Purple, and the original singer on the rock opera concept album Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber, where Gillan had the leading role (Jesus Christ).

Going solo seems to be a labor of love more often than not, and it's an opportunity for an artist (frontman or otherwise) to delve into unexpected genres or styles. Deep Purple's Ian Gillan is no stranger to the solo project, with many of his personal endeavors of the past 20 years taking a more watered-down approach to the Deep Purple tradition. Gillan's latest album One Eye To Morocco, shows that the singer is perfect & might be returning to form. Gillan is still a capable vocalist, but the edge that was present in songs like Highway Star is gone at this point. At the age 60+, this shouldn't be a huge shocker and edginess probably wasn't the singer's intention anyhow. For me, he is the No. 1!

why did I have to scroll so far down, I mean he's not even on the first page!
i was gonna vote for Robert Plant or Freddy Mercury, but seeing Ian so low on the list ill just vote for him

come on, no one can sing Child In Time exept for Gillan
he's also one of the best live singers

he also performed the role of Jesus in the original Jesus Christ super star btw

The number of singers that had the chops of Ian Gillian in the early 70's are very few in numbers. Showboating a powerful, masculine voice Ian also had screaming high notes, the likes of which had never been heard before. While the few other male singers that could hit high notes sang like girls (i.e. Robert Plant) Ian had a strong hold over the low notes as much as the high notes and he delivered them both with machismo. - GuitarZero

Are you serious? Big Ian on 119. place? Seriously? He is one of the greatest vocalist of all time. His legendary falsettos, great vocal range and his unique baritone should be enough to be at least in the first TOP10!

124 Billy Joel Billy Joel

Billy Joel used to be so popular. He had a beautiful voice, could go high could go low, he could sound like anything. He also had such a natural sense for the music, I remember him just closing his eyes and humming to the beat. Billy Joel created some of the most moving songs that were all- time favorites just two or three decades ago (Piano Man, This is the Time, River of Dreams, Innocent Man, etc). It's pretty sad to see him being lapped by the obnoxious sounding fake singers of our generation, and the rap machines who have no sound. Billy Joel is a legend of music. He deserves better than this.

I just went through this list, and I have to ask you all a question. Are you all stoned or just stupid? This man has some of the best songs over the past 30 years. When I saw some of the people ahead of him, I started to wonder about the idiots who come on this site. Most of them should be wearing a helmet so they don't get hurt. - RdrTech

How is he not higher? What kind of idiots vote on this sight? Good lord, some of the people that top this list are just awful. There are very few artists who had/have more talent than Billy Joel and Elton John. Both of them need to be higher on this list, and it is just sad that they aren't.

How is he this low...?

Being the bass player/co-vocalist of blink-182 and now +44 he has bought a nice reputation for himself. A decent bass player but unbelivable singer. Goes for clean, pure low notes (listen to Little Death by +44) to mind-boggling highs (listen to Chapter 13 by +44) He a singer any band would want.

You'll know Mark Hoppus as the the singer of his primary band blink-182 and his side project 44. He has got lower baritone voice and a great vocal range, especially if you listen to 44, which is his best work to date. He plays bass too, and occasionally guitar. He is also pretty decent live.

a total legend on the bass and can sing well to you don't realise how hard it is untill you sing some of their songs

127 Anthony Kiedis Anthony Kiedis Anthony Kiedis is an American singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers, which he has fronted since its inception in 1983.

A! red hot chilli peppers is the best! I was at their concert last month and it was awesome! ALL YOU Bieber FANS AND Bieber GO TO HELL!

He's great I can't believe he's in the 60's TOP 10 BABY! I love his songs like dosed and under the bridge and don't even get me started on scar tissue. This guy is a singing god and deserves to be past all those random singers I've never heard of!

Just to say something to what the last person said; Anthony is not the only original member Flea is too.

Even though I'm a huge fan of his and the band, I will admit he was not the best singer when the Peppers started out, but he has evolved and he is amazing. He also performs like no one on stage, with the movements and dancing.Plus he exerts so much energy and passion when he sings.

Why is he down here?

129 Jonathan Davis Jonathan Davis Jonathan Howsmon Davis, also known as JD and JDevil, is an American musician best known as the leading vocalist and frontman of the nu metal band Korn.

as the frontman of korn, he has an awesome voice, ranging from low growls/screams to soft singing(as in tearjerker) and puts amazing emotion in his music. he also communicates with the fans a lot, including having a contest where fans made the cover of their 4th album, issues. - fieldy_freak

Jonathan Davis is the backbone of Korn... What I find amazing is that he can sing a melodic style and then change the song's style into a death-metal version in a heart-beat... His live performances are out of this galaxy... Don't forget that he has the greatest mic stand ever... Top ten at least!

Jonathan puts a lot of emotions in his songs, and he's great singer, can't be described... Really amazing - `Co

How the hell is Jonathan Davis 280. He is the greatest singer I've ever seen live and I've seen Myles Kennedy, M.Shadows, David Draiman, Ivan Moody, Corey Taylor and a lot of more super great singers live and none of them even come Close to Jonathan Davis live. He has great range sings for the band that made Nu Metal a thing. An has inspired about two decades of metalock singers that want to sing with that crazy passion and crazy vocal style that he uses. And no one can do it just like him

130 Benjamin Burnley Benjamin Burnley Benjamin Jackson Burnley IV is an American musician, composer, and producer, best known as the founder and frontman of the American rock band Breaking Benjamin.

Can't beat him. No one knows him so therefore he's this far down on the list. Don't let metal suffocate in pop and hip-hop, and look up Breaking Benjamin in your spare time. - Giusti97

In my mind, Ben one of my favorite male singers, along with Roy Khan. Both are fantastic singers, with powerful, beautiful voices. It doesn't hurt that they both sing with phenomenal bands, and some of the best songs I've ever heard. (For the record, Breaking Benjamin is my favorite band, and Simone Simmons is my favorite singer of all time -- I don't see her on this list, though).

Hands down, my personal favorite of this list so far. I've gone out of my way to be a die-hard breaking benjamin fan. His songs are just epic. My favorite heavy songs are "I Will Not Bow" and "Had Enough", while Burnley is able to slow things down with "Forget It" and "Rain". He is incredibly, ridiculously underrated and tied for my fave singer of all time with Shaun Morgan.

131 Bing Crosby Bing Crosby Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby, Jr. was an American singer and actor. Crosby's trademark warm bass-baritone voice made him the best-selling recording artist of the 20th century, having sold over one billion records, tapes, compact discs and digital downloads around the world.

No one can top Bing Crosby as far as I'm concerned. He didn't even have to have music when he sang for it to be beautiful, that is a true God given gift. Even his whistle was beautiful. There has been no one born in this world today that could come close to sound like him and there never will.

I think Bing Crosby has the most beautiful voice of all time. I don't know how he could be so low a number as 168. Even his speaking voice was unique. You can judge someone unless you lived their life.

Bing holds the record for the most number of records sold and the longest to stay in the top charts. Elvis comes in a distant second.

133 Mike Patton Mike Patton Michael Allan "Mike" Patton is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, film composer, producer, and actor, best known as the lead singer of the alternative metal band Faith No More.

in terms of vocal range and the abilities this guy has, patton ***** on a good amount of the people on this list.. his side projects and voice overs are unbelievable, his work is huge in europe and some other random places but the US is infatuated with the constant stream of crap coming through radio/tv and never really grew to accept his stuff.. patton and everything he touches, he always seems to collaborate with amazing musicians, pushes boundaries and helps evolution of the music industry and hopefully he'll get the recognition he deserves in his lifetime... listen to "edge of the world" by faith no more and then listen to "god hates a coward" by tomahawk and you'll see what I'm tryin to say..

I can't believe I have to add Patton to this blasphemous list. Consider the evidence:

1) Scientifically, Patton has the widest vocal range of any pop singer alive at a full six octaves (plus a half-note).

2) His vocal range notwithstanding, his vocal versatility is also second to none. Name another singer who has recorded successful releases in metal, rock, pop, avant-garde, rap, lounge, improvisational, and of course Italian oldies form the 50's and 60's. Heck, he even voiced the creature sounds from the Will Smith film I Am Legend as well as a variety of video games including Portal and Left 4 Dead. The guy can do anything!

Simply the best, a talented artist, a great musician and a terryfic singer, he should be on the top ten. The way he works with his voice is something never seen before, many of his side projects includes different styles, something you won't belive. A real genius!

He should be moved to the top 10 spot.

He is such a great singer, it's disappointing to see that he is #168 and just barely beat Ashley Tisdale

It's disappointing that he's so low, but I love his voice (in fact, I'm listening to him now) and he is a kind, loving person. - ArtyLily

136 Chris Martin Chris Martin

Seriously? 112?

Chris Martin has such a special and beautiful voice! Why is he not in the top 20?

Coldplay is an amazing band with Chris Martin as an amazing Lead Singer! I just can't understand why people like Nicki Minaj are higher than Chris...

But it's the same with the modern music today... This anaconda is played on the radio...What happened with our world?

Okay, there are also really good songs in the charts and on the radio like The Script or Coldplay songs and I accept every person who has an other taste of music but you can't call Anaconda music!

So what I want to say is that I'm really sad that Chris Martin is so low on this list and that I can't understand why other crap singers are higher than him and by the way...Where is Danny O'Donoghue?

Chris Martin's voice is got to be the best voice I've ever heard in my entire life. He and Coldplay make the world go round with their touching and sensational songs they've written... GO COLDPLAY! - jprg12

Chris Brown before Chris Martin? He should be ranked a lot higher than that. Chris Martin can sing high, medium or low. He has got to be one of the best I have ever heard. He is so inspiring.. - Elaine22

People here are insane. If Taylor Swift is higher than Billy Joel... Just what. This guy deserves at least the top 100. He and his band made awesome music. - okcnaline

Chris Martin is the best singer ever! His band makes the best songs! - micahisthebest

lol... this list is a joke! Karen Carpenter at #58?

My favorite vocalist, by far, is Karen Carpenter. Her voice has an inherent melancholy quality which makes it perfect for the Carpenters' many melancholy and sad songs. She had such a vulnerability in her voice that it makes me want to give her a comforting hug.

Nowhere will you find a voice as smooth and silky as hers. Some people say Barbra Streisand's voice is "like butter. " I believe that distinction belongs to Karen.

But Karen's voice possesses so many qualities and facets that I love. It is soothing and sweet, loving. And sometimes when she hits those super-low notes, it sends a chill up my spine to this day.

And sometimes when she is singing tenderly, her voice crackles, and again, you hear that vulnerability.

Some other adjectives I can use to describe her voice are warm, sincere, touching, loving, and soothing. It wraps you up like a fluffy blanket on a cold day. The emotion ...more - jonk0469

Karen had the most beautiful voice I have ever heard in my life time. Perfect pitch awesome vibrato and just sang effortless. She made you listen to the words with perfect phrasing and timming. Karen was not a belter and when you added a mic to that voice out came this flawless instrument, she knew her talent. No one can come close to that god given voice. Karen never made a mistake and it has been said she was incapable of singing off key. Amazing singer.
