Top 10 Singular Video Games that Turned Into an Entire Series of Versions of Themselves

The Top Ten
1 Doom
2 Super Metroid

Not only in the sense that it just so happens to have quite a few of THE greatest fan hacks ever made for literally ANY game ever, but also in the sense that literally EVERY main-series game after Super (and for Castlevania, after SOTN) desperately tried to BE Super (and that's not even counting all of the countless and increasingly shameless Metroid clones that are now flooding the market, such as the incredibly overrated Cave Story and the even more incredibly UNDER-rated Axiom Verge)

3 Mega Man 2

I don't like to pull the "every game in the series is always literally exactly the same no matter what" card, but it's undeniably true for the Mega Man Classic saga

4 Super Mario World

Overall, Super Metroid's ROM-hacking scene still has far stronger highlights if you ask me, but Mario World's is just vastly more popular

5 Street Fighter II

No explanation needed

6 Undertale

What's next, BeeMovie-Tale? (oh wait, it's already happened, hasn't it)

7 Tetris
8 New Super Mario Bros

WiiU version is hands-down the best one, but I quite honestly more-or-less just completely stopped caring altogether once it reached that point

9 Cave Story

Trust me, you REALLY don't need to play the Wind Fortress level

10 Earthworm Jim

You also probably don't really need to play the Big Bruty or Cheap Chaps-Chopping Chips levels either, in all honesty (hell, Intestinal Distress itself was actually a pretty genuinely terribly-designed and blatantly phoned-in level in retrospect)

The Contenders
