This is Martin Luther, the guy who kickstarted the Protestant Reformation. Not Martin Luther King, the civil rights leader.
Its funny we have so many dumb people voting for the 10 smartest people in history.
Well I do not know what the adjective "smart" comprises, but having the ability and patience to translate considerably long passages from the Bible from Latin into German requires a bit of brain in my opinion. Plus, writing the 95 theses and making them public, requires courage that can be acquired only if one has the ability to self-motivate himself and believes in what he says. Moreover, being able to stand before the smartest of that time at the congress and answering the questions with so much precision, it is something.
Martin Luther is a lot smarter and more gifted with a broad range of talents than he is given credit.

Well I think that the top ten of this list is right if you are talking about acheivement and knowledge rather than raw intelligence. The ability to learn quick and process very fast is raw intelligence. James sidis did not accomplish as much as the top ten of this list but he was the more intelligent, his IQ was estimated to be around 250 to 350 and h could learn an entire language in one day. When you talk about intellignce it is the potential that someone has. When you say someone has the potential to do something it means that he has the abiity to do it but it does not mean that he is going to do it. William James Sidis does not have more acheivements than the top ten of this list but he has more potential than them. And I think Goethe should be second.
William james sidis had the hihgest iq score ever recorded:250 to 300. He had the greater raw intelligent than any other man. He should be first on the list.
He should be number 1 on this list sure he may not be recognized much but at least vote him more until #1 that'll be nice for his greatest honor and all - Kevinsidis

He turned a society where democracy was deeply entrenched into a dictatorship during a period of relative peace and prosperity. Such a feat would have required him to overturn several social conventions and establish himself as intrinsically superior whilst silencing the many voices of dissent, probably from powerful individuals. When you consider that he and his family were disgraced while he was just a child, this is a grand feat, requiring a mind cunning and great enough to out think the senate and his competitors by a rather large margin.
Furthermore, he succeed in vanquishing the other two thirds of the triumvirate and conquering large swathes of land, something which requires a brand of strategic intellect not often seen.
Although, his friends did kill him, it had nothing to do with a dearth of cognitive abilities but rather a deadly combination of hubris and sentimentality.
Porobaly could have had Europe belong to him at the time the reason why rome is still he today probaly has like a 150 iqV 2 Comments
Eleanor Roosevelt was smart but also tough she even tried to kill franklins made but she did not know what to do so she fell in love with a woman. I'm nine and I know there was 111 notes that they sent to each other but in 1942 franklin and Eleanor were happy with each other again.

Gautam Buddha is the Light of Asia!.. The Largest Continent!. Buddha Was Born in Nepal ( The Land of Highest Peak.. Mount Everest! ).. And he as the Largest Follower in the world!...

World first programmer
Come on people don't you know anything about this person?
So smart: she has the highest iq in the WORLD! At 216, how in the world is she only 84? She should be in the top 10!
He changed math as we know it today. He has his own number which drastically affected Calculus and can be used to calculate continuous interest. His identity regarding complex numbers is astounding and has lead to solving many math problems. He is a genius and a brilliant man.
He is by far the best mathematician to have ever lived. Gauss didn't come close to him. He discovered everything. I'd say only einstein and Hawkins can compare to his genius.
His mathematics concepts is uncomparable to any human being that has ever lived!
There is no excuse for anyone except maybe Gauss to be ahead of him. Aside from coming up with more novel mathematical ideas than anyone in history (at roughly 84 thousand pages of calculations, boosting him well above, Isaac Newton, Liebnitz, Pascal, Einstien, Laplace, Descartes, Pathagoras, Zeno of Elia...) he is the only human being in all of history to have TWO numbers named after him (one of which is e, widely considered one of the two most important numbers in mathematics). Without Euler's contributions to the world, math as we know it would be much simpler. Any sort of "child prodigy" on this list with a massive IQ or a religious figure could not measure up to Euler. How many scientific/mathematical fields are completely dependent on Mohamed's discoveries? How many fields are dependent on Fischer's chess strategies? The proof is in the pudding. It is disgraceful to this list that Euler not be included in at least the top ten.V 2 Comments
No he's not and neither was he that intelligent he was an oppressive dictator who hanged for his crimes sorry but it's true
He was one of the wisest men, yall white asses so full of the tings the media bring to ya, and believe them. He was smart becuase the Americans attempted to gain oil for a really cheap price from the arabian countries, and he was like "NO you guys are idiots, why are you giving them oil for such a cheap price?! " this almost got to the people, however the Americans (once again) made up stuff, and using the media to make him look like some oppressive dictator to get rid of him easily, so america could get back to what they was doing, but yall wouldn't know because you's white and america owns the media, so what ever they put on it, everyone believes it.
If he was really the 40th smartest person in the world, we would have lost the Gulf War a long time ago...
He is a good Muslim
Behind every smart man is an even smarter woman.
She was Einstein wife.
Listen to the soundtrack to Hamilton the musical and you will understand. Just you wait... Just you wait...
Alexander hamilton, not only helped shape a GOVERNMENT SYSTEM STILL IN FUNCTION, he was also an orphan, and immigrated here at age 17. He also was George Washington's right hand man during the revolutionary war, the national treasury secretary, creator of the cost guard, the founder of the New York Post(still one of the most widely realized and credible papers of all time) and on top of all that, he kicked butt in the court room. He is one of the best founding fathers, in the idea that his implements on the US have lasted longer than any other president(financialy)

Google Imhotep. He (or She- see statue) should be on the list and #1- just for the great pyramid, invention of columns, paper, medicine, non-religious scientific thought sanctioned by the state - much of Greek thought came from this one person who's grave is yet to be located but known to be lavish.
All knowledge came out of Africa. He shared his knowledge with all who came to study it and though many would suppress this none can deny it. Simply the father of all modern knowledge on the great subjects.
He built the Step Pyramid in Egypt without mechanized computer architecture. He was so amazing that the Egyptians turned him into the god of Architects.
Without this Egyptian genius many of the listed above would not have been able to make any accomplishments. He is also known as Imouthes by the Greeks. Some of his accomplishments include the world's first named architect who built Egypt's first pyramid, the world's first doctor, a priest, scribe, sage, poet, astrologer, and vizier.V 4 Comments
